POLLEN TAXA FOR GE372 Only taxa indicated with a * are required; you should be able to identify taxa at the level of the major entry. It is also to your advantage to at least superficially look over each slide within a taxonomic unit, since there is some variation within the unit. This is particularly applicable to Acer and some of the Asteraceae: Tubuliflorae (Saussurea is distinct at the generic level) or the Rosaceae (Sanguisorba is distinct to genus). Again, you will not be expected to identify these to genus but you should recognize them to the indicated taxonomic level - subfamily or family.) The number in parentheses behind each plant species name refers to the slide number in the study collection. The families in which individual genera are included are indicated in parentheses. Family names in brackets are older names no longer used. Remember that plant family names always end in -aceae; genus and species names are always italicized. *Abies (Pinaceae) Abies balsamifera (158) Abies lasiocarpa (14) *Acer (Aceraceae) Acer macrophyllum (1) Acer rubrum (171) Acer saccharum (156,157) Acer saccharinum (16) Acer negundo (Aceraceae) (distinct) Acer negundo (164) *Aesculus (Hippocastanaceae) Aesculus hippocastanum (4) *Alnus (Betulaceae) Alnus crispa (5) Alnus rubra (13) *Ambrosia (Asteraceae) Ambrosia elatior (159) Anacardiaceae Rhus typhina (149) Apiaceae [= Umbelliferae] Conioselinum chinense (35) Daucus carota (186) Heracleum lanatum (55) *Artemisia (Asteraceae) Artemisia arctica (9) Artemisia tilesii (10) *Asteraceae [= Compositae]: Liguliflorae Crepis tectorum (33) Taraxacum alaskanum (140) Taraxacum officinale (141)
