European Autumn Gas Conference | EAGC
Welcome
Confirmed Supporting Association and Media Partners
Dear Industry Colleague, What a twelve months it has been for the global energy industry, not least for the European natural gas market. To paraphrase Heraclitus, “the only constant in life is change”, and using the milestone of the COP-21 agreement, change has been evident both before and after the momentous meeting in Paris last November to December. Indeed, just before COP-21, we gathered in Geneva to celebrate 30 years of the European Autumn Gas Conference and our EAGC Chairman, Martin Houston, provided snapshots of the European gas evolution which has occurred during three decades of corporate, political and even geographical change. The last few months have been tough going for all involved in the oil & gas price as multitudinous factors converge to present challenging trading conditions. Another prolonged economic slowdown has dampened the energy appetite of the Chinese dragon, as well as other traditional major consumers, leading to a freefall in oil-linked natural gas prices at the same time as major LNG projects are beginning to come onstream from North America and Australia. A mild winter coinciding with the thawing of relations with the sleeping gas super-power of Iran, through the U.S.-led “nuclear agreement”, has further impinged on the trading price of gas as both uncertainties and opportunities continue to weave their complex magic on both the European and global market. February’s updated Energy Security Package presented by Energy Union VP Šefcovic and Commissioner Cañete from the European Commission for Climate Action & Energy, the debate over the role of renewables and CCS, March’s strong objections to the proposed Nord Stream-2 project balanced
with May’s Greek inauguration of the TAP project – these are all real-time factors affecting European natural gas market growth heading towards November’s EAGC. New sources of gas supply, energy security, infrastructure projects and geopolitical relationships will all be topics of debate during the 31st edition of the European Autumn Gas Conference this November in The Hague. Reflecting major transformations in the industry, EAGC will present new formats and new speakers, critically from both inside and outside the industry, to debate these key challenges. We also welcome our EAGC Young Energy Professionals programme in partnership with Netherlands-based Young Energy Professionals (YEP), a unified platform for Young Professionals in the Dutch energy sector. The potent collaboration of seasoned industry expertise and YEP drive will undoubtedly create a highly engaging learning and networking environment this November at the World Forum in The Hague.
