Are you ready to get creative? Everyone loves a good scarf, that is a fact. And not only does it make for an awesome accessory, it’s also a perfect gift for someone dear to you, or someone you don’t know so well at all. As we have included all sizes, from 18” doll to various children’s sizes, to ladies sizes, you could make matching scarves for everyone, including dolly! This pattern is for both knit and woven; a nice and soft knit will offer a super fluffy and warm infinity scarf, while a woven fabric will result in a slimmer scarf that is perfect for warmer weather! Tips and tricks for sewing with knits are included in this pattern; as this is such a straight forward sew, it would make a perfect pattern when you are only just starting to sew with knits. As every seamstress prefers a different method of cutting rectangles, in this pattern both printable pattern pieces are included, as well as a chart with simple cutting measurements. Seam allowances are already included in this pattern, and measurements are given in both inches and centimeters.

You can find gorgeous Euro fabrics in our shop at a great price. Euro fabric is designer fabric from Europe, much comparable in both price, popularity and quality to higher end designers such as Michael Miller. Euro fabric generally distinguishes itself by its bright, colorful and sometimes bold prints. We also offer the typical European lace-trimmed bias tape.

Every seamstress and sewing machine is different. Please use this measurement chart as a guide. Measure your child to determine which size to sew. Because this scarf is not fitted and the size you sew does not need to be an exact match with your child’s measurements, only a length chart has been included, so you can determine which size scarf to sew for a taller or shorter than average child. Size 18”doll 12m – 24m/ 2y 3y – 5y 6y – 8y 9y – 12y 13y – 14y Ladies

For a person with a height between: 15” – 20” dolls (38 – 51 centimeter) 31.5 – 37.5 inches (80 - 95 centimeter) 37.5 – 44.5 Inches (96 - 113 centimeter) 44.5 – 51.25 Inches (114 - 130 centimeter) 51.25 - 59 Inches (131 - 150 centimeter) 59 – 64.5 Inches (151 - 164 centimeter) 64.5 Inches and up (165 centimeter and up)

Pre-wash and dry your fabric before cutting. Lay out your pattern pieces on your fabric before cutting to get the most out of that gorgeous fabric you have picked out for your scarf.

3/8”

Seam allowances are already included in the pattern pieces and are unless otherwise stated. Press all your seams open and flat – pressing is the finishing touch to a professional-looking garment. Finish all exposed seams with a zigzag stitch or by serging them. You do not need to finish the seams of your knit fabrics in this pattern however, as knits do not fray. Backstitch at the beginning and end of every seam you sew. To do this invisibly, put your stitch length all the way back to 1 when backstitching. I will be using a serger and a sewing machine in this tutorial, but a serger is not necessary to create this garment. Throughout the tutorial I will be using pictures from different scarves and fabrics. When using stretch fabrics, always use a stretch stitch or a zigzag stitch, unless otherwise stated.

Attention: Please take great care in supervising your child when wearing a scarf! Never leave a child unattended or allow a child to sleep with a scarf or any garment with ties and/or straps. If you intend to make this garment for selling, I suggest you point out safety concerns to your customers too.

Knit fabric or woven fabric (up to you!) This pattern can be made in both woven and knit, but the width of the fabric is important: the sizes up to 3-5y can be made using a fabric that is 44” wide; the sizes 6-8y and larger will need a fabric that is 60” wide. If you would like to use a fabric that does not meet the required width, you can piece together two strips to get the needed width for the pattern. Regular sewing notions (matching thread, pins).

Yardage is given for both 60” wide fabric and 44” wide fabric, but for the sizes 6y-8y and up, it’s recommended to choose a fabric that is 60 inches (152 centimeter) wide. If you choose a fabric that is 44” wide for those sizes, you will need to piece together two strips to get the required length for the pattern piece. Size

Important: These pattern pieces have only been included for seamstresses that are not comfortable, or do not enjoy, cutting squares just by measurements with scissors or a rotary cutter. Please only print the pattern pieces if you do not want to use the measurement chart – there are many pages to print. Select ‘no scaling’ (100% or true size) and ‘auto rotate’ in your printing dialog. Print the first pattern page first (page 19) and measure the 1-inch box. If printed correctly, the box measures 1 inch and you can safely go ahead and print all the pattern pages you will need: Size 18”doll 12m-24m/2y All other sizes

Print page numbers 23 – 24 23 - 24 23 - 28

Because the 18” doll pattern piece and the 12m-24m/2y pattern piece fit on the first two pages together, you will only need to print those two pages to create these two sizes. For all other sizes, you need to print all pattern pages. Tape your pieces together along the black lines, matching up the stars and the lines on the pattern as closely as possible, using the page numbers in the bottom right corner that correspond with the layout below.

Either cut out the size you will be using, or trace onto freezer paper or stencil paper if you want to keep the pattern pieces whole for later use.

Important: When using a woven fabric for your scarf, your scarf will be less ‘drapey’ than when using a knit fabric (more like a gaiter scarf). If you would like your woven scarf to drape more like a knit scarf would, it is recommended to add 3 inches* to the length of the pieces when cutting. * not needed for doll scarf

If you prefer to cut your pattern pieces using measurements instead of pattern pieces, the measurements are provided in the following chart. You will cut two pieces according to the measurements given for your size. If you are using a knit fabric, you will make sure that the stretch of the knit runs along the length of the scarf pieces.

Size 18” doll

Cut 2 – width x length 2.75 x 27 inches (7 x 68.6 cm) 12m - 24m/2y 6 x 40 inches (15.2 x 102 cm) 3y – 5y 7 x 44 inches (17.8 x 111.8 cm) 6y – 8y 8 x 49 inches (20.3 x 124.5 cm) 9y – 12y 9 x 52 inches (22.9 x 81.3 cm) 13y – 14y 10.5 x 55 inches (26.7 x 132.1 cm) Ladies 12 x 60 inches (30.5 x 152 cm) Important: If you are using the printable pattern pieces, you do not need to cut any pieces using the chart above. If you are using the pattern pieces instead, you will notice that one side of the pattern piece is marked with ‘fold’ and the pattern piece states to “cut 2 on the fold”. This means, you will fold over your fabric, and you will align the edge of the pattern piece marked ‘fold’, with the fold of the fabric. Please reference the picture below (this is a ladies size being cut on a fabric slightly wider than 60”).

There is no magic to knit fabric; it just takes practice! So grab some scraps, or old t-shirts, and practice away! There are various ways to sew with knit fabric; try them all until you have found what works best for you. Using a straight stitch on knits is not recommend when stretch is needed on those particular parts of your garment. When the fabric is stretched, your stitches will snap right out! That is why we use one or more of the following options: For seam construction, you can either use a serger or a sewing machine with twin needles, a zig-zag stitch or a stretch stitch. I prefer using my serger, but this is not necessary. If using a zig-zag stitch, you would use a rather narrow (stitch width 2) zig-zag stitch. For hemming, you can use your twin needles, a zig-zag stitch or a stretch stitch. I prefer using a zig-zag stitch. I have found that my hems roll the least when I use a zig-zag stitch, and I personally love the look. In this pattern, we do not need to use a stretch stitch, as stretch is not needed for this garment. My zig-zag stitch settings when hemming are as follows: I use a width of 3, and a length of 3.5. You may find that your fabric may not feed through so well, for example when sewing over a bulky seam. Try to go slowly; you can also lengthen your stitch length, as it will make feeding through the fabric so much easier. If you can adjust your presser foot pressure, try to lower that, so the machine can feed the fabric through more easily. Lastly, you can also opt to leave your knit garments unhemmed if you like the look. They will not fray. However, they may roll or curl depending on which fabric you use (again, that can be just the look you are going for, and in that case, that’s all the more awesome). In this pattern, you cannot leave your scarf unhemmed, as it will be fully lined, so you can disregard this option for this particular pattern. As knits do not fray, you don’t have to finish your seams – such freedom! You should still press your seams open and flat. Many people will opt to use a ballpoint needle for their knit projects, but I personally prefer a sharp, regular needle. This is a personal choice – try with scraps to see what you like best! When you’re sewing a garment with knits, you can (and should) manipulate the pattern pieces to fit together. For example, you may manipulate/slightly stretch the fabric when setting in sleeves. Whatever you do, don’t stretch your fabric while sewing! Just allow it to glide slowly as you sew; stretching your fabric will make your seams wavy or will make your machine skip stitches. Find that your seams are still wavy? Sometimes, this really can’t be avoided. Try putting your iron on it (not too hot though, knits do not appreciate that!) with a whole lot of steam, and often, you will steam the seam right back in control. A cycle in the laundry will often do the same. 10 The Strawberry Bonbon Infinity Scarf – Candy Castle Patterns

1. You should have this: Two equal scarf pieces.

2. Place them on top of each other, with right sides together.

3. Pin one of the long edges together and sew along the entire long edge. We do not need to use a stretch stitch. A straight stitch is perfect for this project. If your sewing machine gets a bit grumpy over sewing thicker knits, you can try to increase your stitch length a bit (3.5 length is my preference when sewing with bulkier knits). It will make it easier for your machine to feed through the fabric. Remember: we’re only sewing one long side, and we’re using a seam allowance of 3/8” (1 centimeter).

4. Now, we will make a mark on the other, still unsewn, long edge. Use tailor’s chalk, a water soluble pen or another marking tool, and make a mark on the edge 2 inches away from the short end.

5. Do the same on the other end of the scarf.

6. You have now made two marks. Pin the long edge together.

7. Now, sew from mark to mark, all along the long edge.

8. We’ve now created an inside-out tube. Let’s pull it right side out: Put your arm through the tube, and grab the other end. Pull the fabric all the way through. Mind: the doll size is too narrow to put your arm through, so you will use your fingers to push that right side out.

9. Your tube is now right side out, but still does not look much like a scarf.

10. Some people like their scarves straight, without a twist, while others prefer their scarf with a twist. Depending on which style you like, you will now either leave your scarf straight as it was when you finished sewing, or you will give it a full twist by twisting it twice. Please view the image to the right, that uses a ribbon with a clear right side and wrong side, to make visualization easier. Scarf looks like this when twisted:

11. Bring your open ends towards each other.

12. Match up the long seam we fully sewed earlier and align the short edges.

13. Pin the short edges together completely. Make sure your scarf is right sides together now and you’re aligning the raw edges.

For smaller sizes, it looks like this:

You’re pinning reversed curves together, so they will need to be pinned together well.

For bigger sizes, it looks like this:

14. Sew along this entire edge.

For smaller sizes, it looks like this:

For bigger sizes, it looks like this:

15. Flip the seam you just sewed to the inside of the scarf, so the whole thing is right side out now. The scarf is now almost finished as you can see, but there is still this little hole through which we turned the whole scarf right side out. Let’s deal with that.

16. Fold in the raw edges and give them a good press. Pin in place.

Note: You don’t have to sew this gap closed with your sewing machine. If you would prefer hand sewing the gap closed with a ladder stitch, go for it!

17. Sew the gap closed (see next step too)…
