Introduction

1 Introduction Welcome to the WinCan Photo Assistant, the additional software module that enables measuring of important pipe parameters directly within the WinCan8 application using either a video signal or a photo. The values of the parameters listed below are automatically put into the corresponding value field by the software module when working with the catalogue WRC3:

• • • • • • • •

Diameter of pipe connections

value field within the catalogue

Length of intruding objects

value field within the catalogue

Reduction of cross section

value field within the catalogue

Water level height

value field within the catalogue

Connection angle of a lateral pipe

SO_BendAngleDeg

Clock position of a lateral pipe

SO_BendClock

Pipe bend angle

SO_BendAngleDeg

Clock position of a pipe bend

SO_BendClock

Important note: Depending on the damage catalogue you have to work with (e.g. PACP) the Photo Assistant may only be launched from the photo dialogue (p.13) and the values measured must be typed manually into the corresponding fields! The following catalogues already contain a built-in button left to the pipe parameters to be measured and thus support a direct launch of the WinCan Photo Assistant:

• DWA (Germany) • VSA (Switzerland) • WRC3 (United Kingdom)

Overview of the Functionalities

5 Overview of the Functionalities The Photo Assistant can be launched from the catalogue when entering specific observations that require a precise measuring value. WinCan8 therefore is transmitting the following information to the Photo Assistant:

• • • • •

Pipe diameter Inspection direction Default view angle: the vertical view angle of the camera at default zoom (p. 14). View direction set parallel to the pipe axis. Existing photos in the field Photo1 or Photo2 as well as photos created directly from the LiveVideo signal or the video clip respectively.

According to the type of parameter you want to measure the corresponding 3D reference lines are automatically displayed:

Main pipe

The photo is layed behind the 3D reference lines. It can be moved, zoomed and rotated until the lines displayed precisely match the corresponding structural elements of the pipe (e.g. joints, outlines of lateral connections, weld seams etc.). The camera height can be reset together with every type of 3D line display.

Photo Assistant and damage catalogues

6 Photo Assistant and damage catalogues Certain catalogue parameters automatically imply the button tant. Especially mind the two issues described below:

to open the Photo Assis-

• The catalogues itself (e.g. WRC3) is determining which pipe parameter is displayed together with the Photo Assistant button. Catalogues like PACP; WSA; TV2/TV3 will NOT provide these buttons.

• The Photo Assistant button is ONLY available for pipe parameters whose values can really be obtained by picture measurement. Click on the button to open the Photo Assistant showing the photo saved in the observation field photo1 with. If the CONTROL key is kept pressed simultaneously the Photo Assistant will show the picture in the observation field photo2.

In case of missing pictures in both fields photo1 and photo2 the software is checking the issues in the order described below:

• LiveVideo signal: Creating a photo from the LiveVideo signal. • Video clip displayed: Creating a photo from the video clip currently. • Opening the dialogue box Open file to import an existing picture.

Values calculated by the Photo Assistant in this way are NOT linked to any value fields in the catalogue. Thus this measuring method only makes sense if you have to work with a catalogue that does NOT contain any Photo Assistant button (e.g. PACP, WSA, TV2/TV3 etc.).

Seite 13/15

Saving the information

8 Saving the information 8.1 Saving the calculated parameters The Photo Assistant is saving all the parameters calculated into a separate INI file that has got the same name as the image file in the subfolder …\Pictures of the current project. The picture itself will NOT be modified.

8.2 Saving picture with reference lines Using the button in the symbol bar of the Photo Assistant you may save the photo together with the 3D reference lines as a NEW picture file. The existing photo will NOT be overwritten.
