When UEA pioneered a new kind of teaching, it inspired widespread change in pharmacy education. As one of the best Pharmacy Schools in the country for student experience, we lead the way in preparing students for life after university. Our Pharmacy School was founded by a group of leading pharmacists who wanted to change the way the subject is taught. They created an innovative degree programme that produces graduates with a wealth of real-world experience, and inspired widespread change in pharmacy education. WE WERE THE FIRST TO: - Give students a heavy dose of professional experience, from first year placements to portfolio assessments. - Give students a more practical and expansive experience, through problem-based learning and interprofessional learning with students from other health professions. - Give students the support they need to succeed, through extensive careers advice and in-depth research projects. Universities across the UK have since followed our lead, but we remain the strongest School for student experience in the country, ranking first in the NSS for six of the last nine years.

YOUR CAREER In many areas of the UK there remains a shortage of pharmacists. As a UEA pharmacy graduate, you will be in especially high demand. Over 96% of our eligible graduates are in work or further study, just six months after graduating. The overwhelming majority are working as pre-registration pharmacists all over the UK including in top London hospitals and major pharmacy chains. Career prospects for pharmacists are excellent. You could go on to work in community, primary care, hospital or industrial pharmacy. You can expect great opportunities for career progression and a competitive salary. Throughout your MPharm course, you’ll have the chance to develop your professional interests and establish links with the practices where you might one day be employed. Find out more about pharmacy careers at www.rpharms.com NEXT STEPS The MPharm degree is the first step to becoming a pharmacist. The next step is to become a registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). To achieve registration you must have achieved a pass in an accredited MPharm degree, undertaken a one-year work-based placement, known as the pre-registration year, and pass the Council’s registration examination.

As a UEA pharmacy graduate, you will benefit from our full support in securing your training position. In the pre-registration assessments our graduates have achieved pass rates in the top 10 schools of pharmacy for the last five years, exemplifying the preparation you receive at UEA for your future career. Find out more about registration at www.pharmacyregulation.org We also offer a five year integrated MPharm aimed at international students that incorporates the pre-registration placement into your degree. Are we one step closer to understanding a disease that affects nearly 40 million people worldwide? A UEA research team has made progress by exploring the relationship between blood thinner Heparin and the body’s natural defences against HIV. COULD YOU IMPACT THE WORLD?

www.uea.ac.uk/brilliant

A blood thinning agent is helping our researchers understand more about the body’s natural barriers to HIV. The team, led by Dr Jesus Angelo in the School of Pharmacy, has found that when a protein called langerin interacts with the drug heparin, it can contribute significantly to the degradation of HIV particles. The research points to future possibilities for HIV treatments that exploit this interaction to full effect.

Pharmacy is about improving people’s lives, and the research we conduct is always carried out with that goal in mind – whether it’s a way to help people take their medicine more comfortably or a new treatment to relieve harmful symptoms. We tackle some of the most profound issues in health, fighting HIV, cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. As a result, we have a proud track record of making major advances in pharmacy practice and research, and we’re rated first in the UK for the quality of our research output (REF2014).
