SLC NEWS All students and staff at Pense School have been divided into 5 Spirit Teams: The Dingy Dinosaurs, The Danger Skunks, The Sneaky Lobsters, The Ghostly Sea Urchins and The Screaming Tree Frogs. These teams will be competing all year to earn spirit points. Spirit points are earned by participating in school spirit days and activities. At the end of the year, the team with the most spirit points will earn a team prize. On Monday, November 23, the SLC planned a kick off assembly where the teams gathered to create a team poster and compete in a cheer competition. The Dingy Dinosaurs came out ahead! All staff and students are encouraged to participate in next week’s Salad Dressing Week to earn team points.

The School Community Council is hosting another fundraiser. We are selling Pat’s Hockey tickets for the January 29 game against the Saskatoon Blades. Tickets are $15 each. We will all be placed in a section together. It will be fun for all the families to sit together. Please have order forms in by January 6. The classroom that sells the most tickets in the Regina area wins a Pregame experience! Please, let’s get all of our family and friends out for a fun filled evening of Hockey!!

We are extremely lucky to have Mrs. Brown start knitting club again this year. The first knitting club will be on Monday, December 7 from 3:20-4:15 in the library. If you have any looms or spool knitting beehives please return to the school. All students are welcome to attend.

On Tuesday, November 17t the Grade 7/8 class spent the morning participating in the 2015 Student First Anti-Bullying Forum. This event was hosted by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education and included 9000 grade 6-12 students. The students listened to a variety of speakers via digital link, including a keynote by University of Regina Professor, Dr. Alec Couros. Dr. Couros provided an interactive and engaging address on the impact of social media in the lives of young people. He provided many example s of the positive effects but also demonstrated some of the pitfalls. Representatives from the Ministry and Sasktel outlined aspects of the recently implemented Ministry Anti-Bullying Action Plan. During the live broadcast, students participated in a real time digital forum with the 9000 student participants. Students were able to ask questions and actively discuss aspects for the presentation in a secure digital format. A highlight of the presentation was a “shout out” regarding #myclasschat, a monthly student lead Twitter chat initiated last year by our class, as a model of positive social media connection! A second portion of this event, a live post-forum chat, took place on Thursday, November 19.
