Studio Pioneer mountain biker and celebrated local rider Crawford Carrick-Anderson reflects on an amazing sporting life that began with skiing before two-wheels took over. Crawfy’s deafness only adds to the scale of his accomplishments.

This afternoon’s short films celebrate the joy of riding bikes.

Come and ride a stunning local route in the company of World Champion mountain biker Tracy Moseley – one of the most decorated female riders the sport has ever seen. Led by Swift Trails, local mountain bike guiding and tuition company, the 20km route can be tackled by novice riders as long as they have a good level of fitness.

World Champion mountain biker Tracy Moseley recently retired from enduro competition as one of the most successful female riders of all time. This hugely respected competitor reflects on her riding career, how the sport has changed during that time, and what she plans to do next.

Feature film: Sherpa – Trouble on Everest £9, £6 Auditorium An absorbing and visually powerful account of the strained relationship between Sherpas and the climbers they guide to the highest point on the planet. A huge icefall in 2014 killed 16 Sherpas and was the catalyst for them to unite in grief and anger to reclaim their sacred mountain. 4.30pm

Ride Fast, Travel Far £5, £3 Studio Peebles-based Ed Shoote is obsessed with exploring far-flung places on two wheels. But he’s also a firm believer in achievable adventure on our doorsteps. In this visual feast of a presentation, Ed explains how he got into lightweight touring and shares stories from some of his most memorable trips. 5 – 6pm

Adventures from the Edge £14, £8 Auditorium Tonight’s short films celebrate outdoor adventure in all its forms from free running to climbing.

A few years ago, David Aston felt that he needed a new challenge. Although he had never done anything physical before, he decided to trek to the magnetic North Pole. After only 18 months training he did it, walking 350 miles on near impossible terrain. David will speak about his fantastic journey and how, having since suffered a stroke, he is tackling this latest challenge.

Keith Partridge Auditorium Emmy-award-winning adventure cameraman and author Keith Partridge is the go-to guy for filming in the world’s most unforgiving locations. In more than 60 expeditions he has pushed deep into unexplored caves, reached the highest point on earth, hunted with golden eagles in Mongolia, and abseiled the Angel Falls. Watch BBC, Discovery or Channel 4? You will have seen his work. Join Keith and hear about what it takes to film at the ends of the earth.

Bob Johnson is a grandfather who loves running marathons. He also loves raising money for charity by running in fancy dress. He has already run the London Marathon dressed as a Dalek, and in a full-size ostrich outfit. Now he aims to set a world record for the fastest man … dressed as Mr Potato Head.

Sunday afternoon’s short films celebrate running in beautiful places.

12.30 – 1pm

A record-breaking fell runner, farmer and cancer survivor, Nicky Spinks is an inspirational figure. Having already held records for the toughest UK fell running challenges, this true legend of the sport recently topped them all when she completed a double Bob Graham Round in under 48 hours – a distance of 132 miles, with a total ascent of 54,000 feet. Come and hear Nicky’s remarkable ultra-running story.

Join record-breaking fell runner Nicky Spinks on an off-road run exploring some of the Tweed Valley’s glorious hill trails. Supported by Moorfoot Runners, the route is suitable for people who can run confidently for more than an hour in the hills. Dress for hill running in January. Route subject to confirmation. Maximum 12 places. Age: 16+. 10.30am – 12.30pm

Getting Durty FREE Studio Paul McGreal says “Durty Events is all about people having fun, pushing themselves further than they thought possible, exploring, and adventure. Oh and mud. We’re definitely also about mud.” Come and hear what it takes to put together acclaimed events from The Heb and Celtman to Loch Gu Loch and Craggy Island Triathlon.

Feature film: Sonic Sea £9, £6 Auditorium Oceans don’t just make the noise of the sea, they each contain a symphony of sounds essential to the health of whales, dolphins and other marine life. When Climbing gets Grizzly £5, £3 Studio Since Greg Boswell left school at 15 he’s been busy chasing the best (and worst) winter climbing conditions around the globe. In ten years he has climbed some breathtaking routes, but not all adventures go to plan. Greg talks about how things can go so right in the mountains, and – following a recent high-profile incident with a bear – how they can also go so very wrong! 5 – 6pm

Markus Stitz Auditorium Recently returned from a year-long, 21,000-mile ride around the world on a singlespeed bike, Markus Stitz talks about his bikepacking life, why he loves adventuring in Scotland, an the Capital Trail – an overnight bikepacking adventure from Edinburgh to the Borders and back. 8pm
