SATURDAY, JULY 12th 8 am to 5 pm The Parker County Peach Festival is a handmade arts and crafts festival with more than 200 art, craft and food vendors, stage entertainment and activities for kids and adults alike.

We would like to thank the Title Sponsor for the 30th Annual Parker County Peach Festival: First National Bank of Weatherford.  Banners will be going up soon over the main thoroughfares in town to let everyone know that the Peach Festival will be here before you know it.  Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 12th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Historic Downtown area.  We have vendors and visitors attend from all over the state, but we like to make sure our local residents are invited and excited to attend this annual event.

Peach Pedal

Information about the Peach Pedal can be found at www.peachpedal.com.  This bike ride takes place the second Saturday of July in conjunction with the Peach Festival.  The Start/Finish lines will once again be at Weatherford High School on Bethel Road, the many different courses will branch off south of I-20.  If you enjoy cycling for fun or

for competition, then this ride is for you.  There is something for everyone - from a 9-mile ride to a 100-K ride.  Over 2,200 cyclists are expected to turn out for this grand ride.

Growers

The Parker County Peach Festival is a tradition for the Weatherford area and an event we look forward to hosting every year.  The festival was originally designed to honor local growers.  With this tradition in mind, local growers are invited to bring produce, plants, peaches, and other items to the Parker County Peach Festival each year.  Fresh, local produce can be purchased between First Baptist Church and First National Bank on Palo Pinto Street on Saturday, July 12th starting at 8 a.m. Growers will be there until 5pm or when they are sold out of their produce!  If you are a local grower and would like to participate in the Peach Festival, please contact the Weatherford Chamber office.  We hear the crop is looking GREAT so far this year so we expect the produce section will be especially busy at the festival!

Chairman’s Message During the TV drama “24” you are regularly reminded about limits on time by a powerfully hastening sound accompanied by a clock counting down second by second, minute by minute. Now, in June do you hear the sound and see the clock? Do you feel the urgency, the feeling of an oncoming tsunami? Are you haunted by the image of a clock counting down time?

I know, Drama and Over The Top, but I submit to you The Peach Festival doesn’t “Just Happen” the Chamber Staff, Vendors, Stage Crews, Performers, and the ocean James of Volunteers are like ducks swimming across a lake. The Plowman outward appearance is very calm and controlled and yet out of sight under the surface of the water their feet are churning away to secure the apparent calmness on the surface. Remember we are rapidly approaching “The Event” that identifies our community. For one day our city’s population will grow by half and yet we are expected to maintain the “Small Town Charm” of Weatherford. Expectations are for calm when someone is stressed, cool when it is hot, polite when someone is rude, and positive when someone is negative. But, we all know nothing like that happens at Peach Festival!! Let’s all strive to make this a memorable Peach Festival and Support our Chamber and Local Businesses!

How do you say “Welcome to Weatherford?” What do YOU have in the Newcomer Bag?

Is it a 10% off coupon, a magnet, or a postcard about your services? How do you reach new residents to Parker County?

Almost every day new people come to the Chamber and say “I’m looking for some information, I’ve just moved here”. This is a great opportunity for us to welcome them to Weatherford and hand them a “Newcomer Bag”.

Our new residents are always very happy to receive this free information which includes a Community Guide and Membership Directory, a Points of Interest Map, History, Schools, Recycling, Dining, Lodging and much more.

HONORING OUR OWN

Business of the Year (businesses that have less than 35 employees) and NewComer of the Year (been in business less than 2 years).

We are asking each of our members to take the time and nominate another Chamber member for awards such as Large Business of the Year (businesses that have over 35 employees), Small

We are also asking for nominations for the James Doss Award. This is an award that recognizes individuals for their philanthropic endeavors. Once again

The Weatherford Chamber of Commerce is fortunate to have so many wonderful businesses. Many of our businesses have been in Weatherford for years where others have only been in business for a short time. At our Annual Chamber Banquet we have the opportunity to recognize and honor some of these businesses.

A recommendation letter must accompany the nomination. This will allow the independent panel of judges to determine the recipient in each of the categories. The information received from the nominator along with the interview information is what assists in the decision making process. The more the judges know, the easier the decision is to make.

So here’s your opportunity! As a chamber member, you can provide us with something from your company that you want included in the bag. There is no extra charge to participate.

Here are a few ideas: pens, small note pads, brochures, flyers, coupons, magnets, letter openers, chip clips, or anything with your name on it. We need about 50 a month and you can give us different items as you have them available. Just stop by the chamber and let us know that you want to be included in the Newcomer Bags. It’s a wonderful way to introduce your business to new people. Try it… you’ll be glad you did!

we ask that you write a recommendation for your nominee.

Please send your nominations to the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, 401 Fort Worth Hwy., Weatherford, TX 76086.

WCS Greg Welch Gymnasium Dedication

May 23, The Greg Welch Gymnasium in remembrance of Staci Lee, Mandi McWhorter, Lacey Osina & Whitney Welch was built on the Weatherford Christian School’s secondary campus to memorialize 5 very special individuals. Greg Welch was a legendary cutting horse trainer, son of Buster Welch and played an instrumental role in the Horseman for Christ organization before losing his battle with cancer. Staci Lee, Mandi McWhorter, Lacey Osina & Whitney Welch were four incredible young ladies whose lives were cut short in December of 1998 on Ranger Hwy, less than 2 miles from the WCS gym, by a drunk driver. Each of these girls were leaders in the classroom as honor students, competitors in multiple sports with numerous awards and achievements, loved by so many but most importantly they each were outspoken about their relationship with their Lord and Savior and lived an active life within their local Churches. Weatherford Christian School felt it couldn’t be more fitting than to honor them by naming this gym after all five who played such an important role within this local area. Families, gym donors and supporters, as well as WCS Board Members and administrative staff came together on Friday, May 23rd to honor and celebrate their lives and to show the continuing advancements and building improvements to the gym for final completion. The ceremony included our local color guard, the National Anthem sung by recording artist Sean Mitchell and a message delivered by Pastor Brian Bond of Greenwood Baptist Church.
