Park Street School/Park Street Kids is a Christian, independent school located in Boston, Massachusetts. Park Street School/Park Street kids welcomes students age 2 through grade 6 and provides a content rich, integrated education which supports the growth and development of the whole child. Applications are accepted year-round for substitute positions in both the preschool and the elementary school. Interested candidates should apply via our Online Employment Application. ASSISTANT TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

All employees and volunteers at Park Street School are work together to fulfill the Park Street School Mission Statement. The thoughts reflected in this description provide structure to the responsibilities and accountabilities for this position. However, Park Street School expects to employ professionals who will work beyond job descriptions, creating both a fulfilling career environment and very successful outcomes for our students. Instructional Responsibilities Each employee will:  Support the planning, supervision, and implementation of a challenging and developmentally appropriate program in accordance with the educational philosophy and policies of PSK/PSS, the curriculum’s scope and sequence, and the prescribed student objectives. Specific guidelines include, but are not limited to: o Share ideas for classroom activities and lessons with lead teacher o Work with students in small group settings o Provide one-on-one tutoring support o Create and implement lessons plans for non-core subjects 



 

Assist in the maintenance of providing a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom, which provides a stimulating learning environment while creating a classroom community in which every student is affirmed. Ensure the health and safety of each student enrolled whether in the classroom, in the common areas or outside the classroom (drop-off, pick-up, lunch room, recess, field trips). o Demonstrate knowledge of procedures for responding to emergencies including, but not limited to CPR, First Aid, EpiPen administration, and evacuation of the school building o Know all emergency numbers o Be responsible for maintaining proper coverage at all times o Be responsible for administering medication in accordance with health care policy to students when appropriate Adhere to PSK/PSS discipline policies and implement effective classroom management skills e.g. Stop and Think Exercise effective communication skills – oral and written

Non-Instructional Responsibilities Each employee will:  Cooperate with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures and directives governing the operation of the school  Seek the counsel of administrators and experienced colleagues and nurture a teachable spirit  Make visitors and parents feel welcome in the classroom  Communicate to the Lead Teacher any educational, social, medical or developmental student concerns before expressing these concerns to parents and/or students  Accept a share of responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned  Offer input and recommendations for addressing classroom concerns  Attend and participate in scheduled devotions  Supervise lunch, recess and “drop-off”/ “pick-up” duties

Professional and Personal Responsibilities Each employee will:  Maintain an excellent attendance record and punctuality for school, appointments, assignments and meetings  Attend all staff meetings, school events, professional development and orientations (may be requested to attend specific parent conferences)  Pursue professional development according to the individualized Professional Development Plan and MA state regulations  Share ideas for classroom activities and lessons with the lead teacher and administration  Seek to support overall school improvement  Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, and self-control  Meet every day stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism  Exercise friendliness and consideration, treating students without partiality  Remain positive and supportive of the school, the administration and colleagues and do nothing to undermine the teamwork, collegiality, and overall morale of the school  Maintain a professional appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty and good taste  Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents and staff to promote a positive learning environment

Utilize school time as effectively as possible to fulfill classroom responsibilities and enhance the learning experience Recognize the need for good public relations; represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to its constituency and the general public Demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of the uniqueness of the local community

Physical Requirements Each employee must have the ability to:  Lift up to 40 lbs. (PSK)  Perform repetitive bending, stretching and stooping  Climb up and down stairs  Work with children on floor  Work outdoors in a variety of weather  Ensure children’s safety with keen visual/ hearing capabilities  Perform light cleaning duties

CREDENTIALS/EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

B.A. or B.S. required (Early Childhood or Elementary Degree preferred);



Demonstrated experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach



Excellent written and oral communication skills



Entrepreneurial outlook and private, Christian school commitment
