TABLE OF CONTENTS

The Modbus Plus interface is a product option that provides communications between a PanelMate Power Series unit and a Modicon PLC having Modbus Plus capability.

PREPARING TO INSTALL A MODBUS PLUS INTERFACE IN A PANELMATE POWER SERIES 5000 AND 3000 (120VAC) Note:

In this discussion, “Left” and “Right” are defined by facing the front of the unit.

Before installing the Modbus Plus interface, follow the steps below: 1. Go to the right side of the unit. Remove AC power and disconnect any other connectors.

CAUTION OBSERVE PROPER PROCEDURES TO GUARD AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. SEE PAGE 1.

3. Remove the option plate that covers the two rectangular cutouts for option ports at the rear of the unit. a. Remove the option plate mounting screw and let the plate drop inside. b. Tilt the unit and slide the plate out. c.

Save the screw. It will be used to secure the Modbus Plus interface.

INSTALLING THE MODBUS PLUS INTERFACE IN A PANELMATE POWER SERIES 5000 AND 3000 (120VAC) 1. Install the interface with the component side facing the front of the unit and positioned in slot 1. 2. Using the option plate screw, secure the Modbus Plus interface by tightening the screw on the rear of the unit. 3. Attach the open connector on the ribbon cable to the Modbus Plus interface. Make sure connections to the other boards are tight. 4. Replace the cover and tighten the screw(s). 5. Connect AC power and any other connectors. 6. Installation of the Modbus Plus interface is complete.

INSTALLING THE MODBUS PLUS INTERFACE IN A PANELMATE POWER SERIES 4000 (SPLIT ARCHITECTURE)

Before installing the Modbus Plus interface, follow the steps below:

2. Remove the cover of the Electronics Module Assembly by removing three screws. Set the screws and cover aside in a safe place. 3. Remove the option plate that covers the two rectangular cutouts for option ports at the rear of the unit. a. Remove the option plate screw and let the plate drop inside.

1. Go to the back of the unit. Remove AC power from the Monitor and Electronics Module. Disconnect any other connectors. 2. Unplug the cable attached to the Monitor Housing Assembly from the Electronics Module Assembly. This cable provides power and the video signal to the monitor.

3. Remove the ribbon cable from the two circuit boards. 4. Install the Modbus Plus interface with the component side facing the same direction as the other circuit boards, and the mounting plate oriented as shown. Insert the right corner first and carefully pivot the connectors around the power cables located by the right card guide. Slide the Modbus Plus interface in until it is fully seated. 5. Using the interface retaining screw, secure the Modbus Plus interface by tightening the screw on the rear of the unit. 6. Replace the ribbon cable and make connections with all three circuit boards. 7. Replace the cover and tighten the screws on the front and rear of the unit. 8. Attach the Electronics Module Assembly. a. Engage the front slot of Electronics Module Assembly on the mounting flange of the Front Panel Assembly. b. Slide the quarter-turn fasteners into there mounting holes on the front panel tray. Complete the assembly by turning the quarterturn fasteners clockwise to lock in place. 9. Connect the video/power cable from the CRT to the Electronics Module. 10. Connect AC power to the Monitor and Electronics Module and reconnect any other connectors. 11. Installation of the Modbus Plus interface is complete.

PREPARING TO INSTALL THE MODBUS PLUS INTERFACE IN A PANELMATE POWER SERIES 4000/2000 KEYPAD UNIT Before installing the Modbus Plus interface, follow the steps below: 1. Go to the back of the unit. Remove AC power and disconnect any other connectors. 2. Unplug the cable attached to the Monitor Housing Assembly from the Electronics Module Assembly. This cable provides power and the video signal to the monitor.

Remove screw at the rear top center of cover. b. Remove two screws at the front of the assembly in the lower right and left-hand corners. c.

3. Remove the Electronics Module Assembly a. Turn the inboard quarter-turn fasteners counter-clockwise. b. Gently pull the assembly towards you to disengage the front panel keypad connector. 4. Lower the assembly to clear the mounting flange.

3. Remove the ribbon cable. 4. Install the Modbus Plus interface with the component side up and the mounting plate oriented as shown. Insert the right corner first and carefully pivot the connectors around the power cables located by the right card guide. Slide the Modbus Plus interface in until it is fully seated. 5. Using the option plate screw, secure the Modbus Plus interface by tightening the screw on the rear of the unit. 6. Replace the ribbon cable (and make connections with all three circuit boards). 7. Replace the cover and tighten the screws on the front and rear of the unit.

8. Attach the Electronics Module Assembly a. Engage the front slot of Electronics Module Assembly on the mounting flange of the Front Panel Assembly. b. Bring the unit up to horizontal and slide the quarter-turn fasteners into the mounting holes on the front panel tray. c.

complete the assembly by turning the quarterturn fasteners clockwise to lock in place.

9. Connect the video/power cable from the CRT to the Electronics Module. Remove the disposable grounding wrist strap. 10. Connect AC power and any other connectors. 11. Installation of the Modbus Plus interface is complete.
