“Grow in Faith” Christian Education Information and Activities ~Mission Sunday~ Thanksgiving Blessings: Giving Thanks for Mission Over the summer, many ideas were discussed for how our Sunday School program may grow, not only within our congregation, but also within our community. It was decided that one Sunday a month all the Sunday School classes would work together on a common project to benefit the surrounding community we serve. For the month of November, it was suggested by one of our Sunday School teachers that we prepare festive snack bags to be given to the families that would visit the Bread of Life Food Pantry for the Thanksgiving holiday. On November 13, 2016, children of all ages worked together to fill Autumn bags with sweet and savory snacks, seal the bags tight for freshness, and decorate the bags with the perfect bow and a heartfelt message. Every snack had a specific purpose for being included in the bag and the heartfelt message attached reiterated the history of the first Thanksgiving and what the blessed holiday continues to be about. Just like every snack, every child of God that participated in the task had a purpose. The morning was filled with fun, faith, and a desire to serve. Many of the Sunday School students have expressed a joy and meaningfulness that comes with service. Mission has

become a way for them to live out their faith in God in a tangible way. As we remember all that we are thankful for this time of year, let us keep in mind the hearts of the young and old alike that love to share God’s story with acts of sacrifice, kindness, and love.

Treasurer’s Report As we enter the Thanksgiving and Christmas season please remember the Churches fiscal needs. Our pattern of giving is to receive 40% of our envelope giving in the last three months of the fiscal year. October proved to be a good month with Envelope giving in excess of $7300 for total envelope giving so we are off to a good start! Please do your part so we can finish the year on or over budget in the envelope giving categories.

There was no room at the inn… Since 1987 MORAVIAN OPEN DOOR (MOD) has provided a temporary home for homeless adults in Manhattan, NYC. This ministry provides safe and affordable transitional housing for 41 homeless adults in single and double rooms. MOD provides daily breakfast and supportive services to rebuild our residents’ lives. MOD helps them to obtain jobs and benefits, with the goal of finding permanent affordable housing and learning the skills to maintain it. Residents a Moravian Open Door pay small monthly fees for their room and services (often much of their limited income); this covers only about 50% of the operating costs for the facility and its full-time staff of three. Moravian Open Door receives no government funds. Donations from individuals, congregations, and other private sources must cover the rest of operating expenses. Your contribution to the “No Room at the Inn” offering can help Moravian Open Door, the only urban social ministry of the Northern Province of the Moravian Church; continue to do a vital ministry. Please consider a generous gift this season. Moravian Open Door 347 E. 18 Street New Your, N.Y. 10003 th
