To receive SES Free Tutoring, your child must be attending one of these schools, be eligible for free/reduced rd th meals, must be in grades 3 - 8 , and based on students achievement levels on Smarter Balanced Assessment. ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS: Agua Caliente; Bella Vista; Cabot Yerxa; Julius Corsini; Rancho Mirage; Sunny Sands; Two Bunch Palms; Vista Del Monte MIDDLE SCHOOLS: Desert Springs; James Workman; Nellie Coffman; Raymond Cree NOTE: Schools meeting the AYP for their second consecutive year will be removed from Program Improvement status and will no longer be eligible to receive SES Free Tutoring. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Below is a list of frequently asked questions to help you in selecting a free tutoring service provider for your child. What is the SES program? The SES program offers free tutoring to all children who qualify. Tutoring includes individual attention outside of regular school hours can be an invaluable resource for a child’s overall academic achievement. It can help your child perform better in subjects that he or she finds difficult, while also improving achievements in subject he or she finds more enjoyable. How do I determine whether or not my child qualifies for free tutoring? Your child is eligible because he or she attends a school that has been categorized as a Program Improvement School for two or more years and must be receiving free or reduced lunch. This categorization is based on the performance on annual standardized tests of all the students who attend your child’s school, not your child’s individual performance. Final eligibility is based on: 1) your student must be enrolled in a school in Program Improvement year two or more; 2) considered low income (eligible for free or reduced price meals); 3) must th be in grades 3-8 ; and 4) on students achievement levels on the Smarter Balanced Assessment. Is the tutoring really FREE? The SES program is a part of the NCLB Act, and is funded by the Federal Government. There is no cost to you. Federal funds that pay providers for their tutoring services are limited. If the requests for free tutoring exceed available funding, priority is given to the lowest-performing students who qualify for free and reduced price meals. How do I find the best tutoring program for my child? This booklet provides detailed information on all approved tutoring organizations available to your child. The tutoring programs outlined in this booklet have fulfilled various standards, requirements, and approval by the State of California and have agreed to tutor district students. As a parent/guardian, you can review and compare the descriptions of each provider to determine which offers the best services to meet your child’s needs. You will be asked to select your three top choices on the attached application. To receive free tutoring from the NCLB SES program, you must select a tutoring organization from the list provided in the booklet.

When can my child be tutored? (PROVIDER DESCRIPTION SECTION) Each tutoring program provides services on varying schedules, but all tutoring takes place outside of the regular school day. Tutoring sessions can be after school or on the weekends, depending on your choice of provider. There are many providers outlined in this booklet from which to select a program that best fits your child’s needs and your family’s schedule. Reading or Mathematics? (APPROVED PROVIDER LIST SECTION) Providers offer tutoring in reading (English/Language Arts) and/or Mathematics. Ask your child’s teacher or principal to help you determine the subject in which your child could benefit from tutoring. Where will the tutoring take place? (APPROVED PROVIDER LIST SECTION) Use this booklet to determine where the providers are located, so that you may select a provider that is the most convenient for you and your child. You may have to provide transportation from your child’s school to the provider’s location. The District does not provide transportation to provider locations. Some tutors offer in-home or online 2

services. If you select a provider that offers online tutoring, verify with the provider that they have a computer available for your child (if needed) and that you have the appropriate internet connection to access their services.
