The library was among 150 facilities that participated in the Lake County Health Department’s “Plant a Promise” initiative during Red Ribbon Week in 2006. Volunteers planted red tulips in the library garden to celebrate those who have chosen to be tobacco-free and to honor those whose lives have been touched by a tobacco-related illness. Red Ribbon Week is observed the last week in October. Join us in wearing a red ribbon to raise awareness about drug prevention in our youth. Visit the courtyard to observe nature, enjoy a quiet and beautiful space where you can read, or have lunch. The courtyard is a Certified Wildlife HabitatTM (National Wildlife Federation). The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered Special DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA . (National Family Partnership)
