Work on the first Atlas volume, the Atlas of the Social and Intellectual History of Muslims in South Asia, is coming to a conclusion. This volume describes the arrival of Islam in South Asia through trade and military incursions and the eventual establishment of great Muslim polities such as the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire. The main focus is on the diffusion of Muslim thought and practice through the villages, towns and cities of the Subcontinent. This entails a detailed presentation of intellectual genealogies throughout the Subcontinent which have been comprehensively mapped for different Sufi orders and for scholars.
