System Features The BTX-3000 Universal Cord Adapting Drapery Motor offers a simple and affordable solution to automating new and existing drapes and vertical blinds. The system easily converts existing cord-pulling drapes into an integrated automatic system, without having to replace any of the hardware such as headrails and cords. It also works well with most types of pulling cords and ball chains. The system is ideal for both new window treatments and retrofits in residential and in commercial applications such as offices, guest rooms, exhibit rooms, hospitals, libraries and hotels. Some of the superior design and special features of the system include:

• Easy installation - requires no electric wiring.

• Eight-channel remote control can operate multiple drapes selectively or simultaneously.

• Wireless infrared remote control with 10 speed choices.

• Automatic motor clutch enables drapery to be pulled by hand in case of power outage.

• Applicable to center, left and right-pull drapes, as well as sheer and overdrape.

• Pull capacity - up to 35 lbs. of fabric weight

• Uses 12v DC power, so is safe and reliable

• Two-year factory warranty

• Automatic limit sensor - requires no pre-set of drapery open/close positions.

Installation Tips

Before installing your new BTX automated drapery system, first check your existing drapery rod for the following: • Your new drapery motor has been designed to provide a strong force to move your drapery. It will not exert much additional downward pull force on your rod compared to hand operation. However, this is the ideal moment to check that your existing drapery rod is firmly attached in its current position. • •

Tighten any attachment brackets that are loose to make sure they will hold your draperies firmly in place. The BTX cord drive system has been designed to pull up to 35 pounds of drapery along a smooth 20-ft. wide straight track equipped with roller type carriers. Gliders, sliders, deformed rods and greater width will increase the friction load and therefore require more pulling force.

• Make sure there are no obstructions in the travel path of your drapes. This would result in unnecessary wear and tear on your fabric and increase the load on your system. • Check the existing cord drive operation to make sure the rollers or gliders that suspend the drapery fabric travel smoothly through the rod. Remove dust and any obstructions.

After completing this check on the existing system, turn to the following pages for your easy installation instructions.

How to install the BTX 3000 drapery motor 1. Select the position of the adjustable wall mount bracket at the pull cord end of the existing drapery rod. The motor is best positioned if the bracket is mounted approximately at one’s chest level. This will put it out of reach of pets and toddlers. It will also help prevent obstruction of the IR receiver by chairs and other solid objects.

2. Make sure the drapery cord is in a straight vertical line between rod and the BTX cord adaptor.

3. Check that the distance between cord adaptor and wall does not differ too much from that of drapery rod to wall. An off-set up to 5 inches is permissible provided there is at least two feet in height distance between drapery rod and adaptor.

4. Attach the adjustable wall mount bracket to the wall (screws provided). Depending on the wall structure, some form of wall anchor (plastic wall plugs or the like) may be required (not provided).

5. To attach the drapery motor to the cord adaptor, hold the motor at a 45-degree angle and press the motor upward into the clover-leafed prong. Make sure that the red button is pressed. Twist the motor back 45 degrees. The red button will automatically lock into place.

6. Gently twist the motor to ensure it is securely attached.

7. Use your thumb to push upward to lift off the cord adaptor cover.

8. Feed the draw cord into the groove of the drive wheel, making sure the cord is pressed into place between the grooves of the small push wheels and the rubber pulley wheel.

9. Glide the cord adaptor into the upper end of the wall mount bracket, allowing it to hang by its own weight.

10. Tighten the draw cord from its end at the carriage up on the headrail, cut the loose part of the cord, and securely reconnect the cord end to its carriage.

11. Put the cord adaptor cover back in place by sliding it downward along the draw cord.

12. Lightly press the cord adaptor downward one or two notches along the wall mounting bracket to test and adjust the tension of the draw cord.

To detach the motor:

1. To detach the cord adaptor from the wall mount bracket, push the latches on both sides of the cord adaptor and slide it upward along the bracket.

2. To disengage the cord adaptor from the motor, use one finger to push the red button upward and lightly twist the motor 45 degrees to detach it from the cord adaptor.

Motor Control Connection

Transformer Connection Connect the transformer to port 1 and plug transformer into standard 120V receptacle. NOTE: The transformer is a dedicated transformer. Customer should not exchange or use other brands of transformers with the BTX Cord Drive 3000.

IR Receiver Diode Connection The infrared receiving eye is plugged into port 2 at the side of the drapery motor.

1 = Transformer Connection 2 = Infrared Receiver Diode 3 = 3-position Switch (Optional - See page 13)

NOTE: The infrared receiver can penetrate most drapery fabrics. However, it cannot be hidden behind heavy objects such as furniture, a sofa, etc., as such heavy objects will block the IR signal; therefore, we recommend that the motor be mounted approximately 4 feet above the floor. --

Remote Control Set Up Set Up Channel Number

The remote control (part # 09.608.341K) has eight channels, which gives you the ability to control up to eight different systems individually. To set the channel number on your remote control, make sure the motor is plugged in, the remote control has batteries and the diode is plugged into the motor. Then follow the steps below: 1. On the remote control, press the desired channel number. Once the green light on the remote is on, release the button. 2. Using the tip of a ball-point pen, paper clip or a similar tool, lightly press the channel switch button inside the small hole on the side of the motor. A light click motion can be felt when pressed. Simultaneously, press the “open” or “close” button on the remote while pointing to the direction of the IR receiver. Then release the channel switch button inside the small hole on the motor, as well as the button on the remote. 3. The motor is now programmed to the selected channel (motor address). Press the open and close buttons to test the motor.

of the drapery, press the button for the opposite direction. If the channel number (motor address) has not been changed, it is not necessary to press the pre-set channel number every time the drapery is opened or closed. The drapery will automatically stop once it is fully opened or closed.

-12-

Switch or Contact Closure Hookup For applications in home automation system where switch or contact closure control is desired, it is best to use a 6-conductor modular cable in conjunction with a RJ-12 plug, to cut the Blue, Green and Red wires and crimp the plug. The Yellow and White are directional wires, and the Black is the common. (See Illustration) NOTE: When cutting the wires, please cut flush with outer jacket.

Troubleshooting Tips Problem Remote control unit does not operate.

Possible Causes

Try these

Power supply is not plugged in properly.

Plug 12V transformer in the proper port

Battery in remote control is dead.

Replace battery in remote control.

The green light is on when pressing the “Open” or “Close” on the remote control, but the drapery does not move.

Receiving diode is obstructed.

Remove any object in front of the motor.

You have not set the proper channel number on the remote or you pushed the wrong channel number.

Set the desired channel number on the remote control and push the correct channel number before pressing the “Open or “Close” button.

Drapery moves in a direction contrary to the “open” and “close” button on the remote control.

The installed direction of the pull cord does not match the programmed direction of the “open” and “close” buttons.

Detach the motor and cord adaptor from the wall mount. Cross the pull cord and re-feed the cord into the drive wheels of the cord adaptor.

Drapery stops before it is fully opened or closed.

Interference with the movement of the drapery.

Remove any object which restricts the drapery movement. Check the headrail, pulley and carriage to replace any broken parts or clear any possible obstructions. If necessary, apply some lubricant to the moving components in the headrail.

Motor does not stop or continues vibrating after drapery is fully opened or closed.

Pull cord might be too loose.

-14-

Lightly press downward the cord adaptor and the drapery motor on the wall mount bracket to tighten up the pull cord. If the cord is still too loose, tighten the pull cord at the end of the drapery headrail.
