Career Plans Survey Report 2014

Overview

Each year, Career Services surveys SEAS Master’s degree candidates to learn of their post-graduation plans. This report includes data from students who graduated in August 2013, December 2013, and May 2014. Information was obtained for 436 (83%) of the 526 Master’s candidates who received degrees. (We do not survey graduates from the Executive Masters in Technology Management Program.) 278 (64%) of the graduating respondents reported accepting new full-time employment. Of these, 165 reported when they received their offer, 60% of which were received before 1/2014. 162 full-time employed graduates reported how they identified their opportunity, 40% of which were a direct result of Career Services-related resources and leads. Manufacturing and technology continue to be the top employment sectors for graduates, at 65% combined. In all sections of this report, average salaries include respondents who indicated they were beginning full-time employment in the United States; overall average salary for SEAS Master’s respondents beginning full-time employment was $ 85,250 (+2% over 2013). The percentage of Master’s candidates pursuing additional studies increased 4% over 2013; of the 52 students committed to continued study, 79% were enrolling in doctoral programs, 13.5% in additional Master’s level coursework, and 8% in medicine.
