In Building Case Studies Heathrow Terminal 5 Multiband in building System providing coverage across the terminal 5 campus. Includes VHF systems for baggage handling and security, Tetra for public safety and 2G and 3G cellular coverage for all UK operators. Pentagon A dual band fibre system for public safety and security in the Pentagon. All the remote sites provide UHF and 800MHz coverage with redundancy. The RF head-end also provided some unique functionality to reduce noise to the external area. Burj Khalifa Tower Fibre distribution system for Tetra coverage across key areas within the tower in addition to providing coverage inside Dubai Mall connected to the Burj. Fully redundant system offering un-interrupted Tetra services for the public safety authorities.

Campus & Stadium Case Studies

Olympic Park London Multiband cellular system providing coverage across the park. Includes 2G and 3G cellular coverage for all UK operators in all the main venues. Male – Maldives Capital BTS hotel in Male providing 2G and 3G coverage at street level, in the narrow streets of the city. The stand alone base station concept was not viable in this densely populated city. Multi band fibre fed repeaters were deployed at street level to provide comprehensive coverage. Stade de France Multiband VHF and UHF providing radio coverage of the pitch, spectators, VIP areas, the internal road and team changing rooms for the Fire, Ambulance, Police and Gendarmerie services. The original system was supplied in 1997 with an upgrade to the Police’s TETRAPOL system in 2010.

INPUT LEVEL

Automatic Level Control Action Mitigates Near Far Effect

Channels 2,3 and 4 are used by mobiles at varying distances from the repeater antenna, giving varying input signal levels

The output power level is almost constant for all three channels to allow homogenous coverage Mitigates impact of Near Far Effect by reducing gain on that channel if someone keys up near the antenna.

OUTPUT LEVEL

Channel 1 is not used so that is generating only noise in the repeater during this time. The noise level is below the squelch threshold of the digital repeater. The squelch function of the repeater mutes the repeater for the unused channel, reducing the gain to literally zero. With very low gain in the repeater for Channel 1, the repeater is not emitting any noise towards the base station. The BTS sensitivity is not degraded for any call on CH1 coming from another area.
