Excited to share their knowledge and love for nature, the full-time Nature Center naturalists are trained and dedicated professionals with a long-term commitment to environmental education. Our seasonal camp staff includes school teachers and highly trained naturalists who return year after year. All staff are CPR and First Aid Certified to insure your child’s safety. Experience and observation are the primary tools by which we teach, empower and encourage students of all ages to explore and learn about the natural world that surrounds them.

Children in Grades K through 5 will enjoy a week filled with adventure and discovery with themes like Wild About Water and Stupendous Stewards. Through hikes, games, crafts, interactive learning and a whole lot of fun, your child will gain an appreciation for nature and the outdoor world. Children can sign up for one, two, three, four or all five days. Snacks are provided, but campers should bring a bag lunch. Eco-Rangers is a perfect fit for the camper who isn’t quite ready for a week-long overnight experience or to help a camper prepare for the Eco-Adventures camp. Campers travel by van to off-site locations on Wednesday and Thursday. Bring a backpack, change of clothes, water bottle and lunch in a reusable container each day.

Do you like to rock climb and hike? If so, then this is the trip for you. Not only will we spend time hiking in the Doan Brook gorge and practice our rock climbing skills, but part of our adventures will take us climbing within the Hinckley Reservation, led by the Cleveland Rock Gym. Learn the basics of tent camping including setting up a tent, cooking on a dual burner camp stove and building a campfire, all within the guidelines set by the National Parks. Campers will camp in campgrounds close to Hinckley Reservation on Wednesday night. Wednesday dinner, Thursday breakfast and lunch are provided. A packing list for the overnight will be made by the group the week of camp. $335 members $355, non-members (includes climbing fees and gear rental).
Enjoy hiking and exploring at its best around the Nature Center, as well as two days in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Hike to and through waterfalls, become skilled on how to properly cross a stream and many more hiking techniques. We will bicycle on the Towpath to see how bikes can be incorporated into camping adventures. Learn the basics of carcamping including setting up a tent, cooking on a dual burner camp stove and building a campfire, all within the guidelines set by the National Parks. Campers will camp in CVNP campgrounds on Wednesday night near the former youth hostel. Wednesday dinner, Thursday breakfast and lunch are provided. A packing list for the overnight will be made by the group the week of camp. $285 members, $305 non-members (includes bike rental fee).

GENERAL INFORMATION • NCSL trip leaders are certified as Wilderness First Responders. They are also trained in CPR for the Professional Rescuer. • NCSL provides tents, cooking gear and all food. Equipment, such as sleeping bags, provided by the camper. • Sleeping bags, ground pads and backpacks are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited scholarships and financial aid packages to rent equipment are available for qualifying campers. • To help first-time campers prepare for a week-long trip, consider signing your child up for Eco-Rangers. They can try out an overnight camp while learning skills like setting up a tent and cooking over a camp stove.
New River Gorge, West Virginia CAMP CODE: EA5 Monday, July 16, 8 am to Friday, July 20, 3 pm
Challenge yourself with an adventure! Spend a week in the breathtaking New River Gorge region of West Virginia. Travel by van to experience group camping within the New River Gorge National Scenic River. Whitewater raft class I-III rapids on the Upper New River or class III-V rapids on the Lower New River with certified river guides from Class VI Outfitters. The Lower New River trip is a new opportunity for experienced rafters 12 and older. Rock climb and rappel in the gorge with experienced guides and hike the rocky trails along the rim. Fee for Upper New River Rafting: $850 members, $870 non-members. Fee for Lower New River Rafting: $900 members, $920 non-members.

Learn orienteering, wilderness first aid, fire skills and much more. Spend a day kayaking on the Upper Cuyahoga River. Learn how to pack for a wilderness backpacking and floattrip adventure. How to pick a safe wilderness campsite, set up a tent, cook using a camping stove and tying knots are just a few skills that you will attain. Test your new and improved skills in challenges throughout the week. Campers will camp outside at Camp Hi after kayaking on Wednesday. Wednesday dinner, Thursday breakfast and lunch are provided. • Cancellation Policy —Cancellations made before June 1, 2012 will be refunded (minus a $50 processing fee per week). Camp fee may be forfeited if cancellation is not made by June 1, 2012. The Nature Center reserves the right to cancel a class if enrollment is low; in which case, you will receive a full refund. Camp cancellations are determined two weeks before the start date.

Each camp has a maximum of 12 campers per session. Eco-Adventures and BIG/little have a maximum of 10 campers per session. • Registered campers receive a confirmation letter and medical form in the mail before camp starts. Medical form must be completed before or on the first day of camp. Form is also available on-line. • Early-Bird Discount — Register before March 1, 2012 to receive $5 off per week of camp.
