Week 11, Term 1

7 April 2016

Dear Parents, Thank you to those who attended our Resurrection Liturgy and P&F BBQ on Friday, April 1. Year 1 and Year 6 led in a very meaningful liturgy and a great crowd joined us on the oval as the sun went down. Thanks to Mr Ledlin and the Year 1 and Year 6 teachers for their planning and to Mr and Mrs Crasto (our P&F Social Co-ordinators) and their helpers for a wonderful evening. Mothers’ Day and Women Who Are Important To Us - Term 2 Mothers’ Day celebrations on Wednesday 4 May. Open classrooms from 8.00am to 8.40am(for those who are unable to stay after Mass); Mother’s Day Mass at 9.30am followed by open classrooms again and then morning tea in TLOCC. The Mother’s Day stall will take place on Thursday, 5 May. Thanks in anticipation for dads who will serve the morning tea. Anzac Day We will be commemorating Anzac Day with a short ceremony on Wednesday 27 April at 11.30am in the lower playground near the Anzac Memorial. All welcome. Student & Parent Health and Wellbeing We have organised CSO presenters to facilitate parent sessions on SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) to be held in Term 2. We will have a morning and an evening session to accommodate all parents. The hour and a half session will be repeated so you only need to attend one of these, either Tuesday 17 May @ 7.00pm (during the P&F Meeting) or Friday June 17 at 9.00am in the school library (childminding available at this session). This workshop aligns closely with our Pastoral Care SIP goal to promote and foster Wellbeing. I encourage parents/grandparents/carers to attend. A flyer with booking details will be emailed home to all families tomorrow. Playground Work We have the downstairs softfall being replaced during the holidays. Workmen will be here tomorrow beginning the process. Our Infants area will be levelled and prepared for the next stage of work in Week 2 of next term. Communication We are very pleased with how the Satchel App is working. From next week the process of signing up will be simplified with a password entry to the app. We apologise to some parents who have experienced problems reading the invitation email. This new process will fix these issues and make it easier to access the app. Please remember to link in your child’s class so you receive notifications for your grade.

Many in our community knew the young 17 year old, Louis, killed in a road accident several weeks ago and tomorrow I will be attending the funeral of a young 21 year old, Patrick, a previous student of mine, who battled cancer as a young child and then a young man. We have so much in our lives to be grateful for, our children, families, extended families, friends, neighbours. During these holidays life is at a slower pace, even if you are still at work. Try to find a little time to connect with the family, to have some fun doing the simple things, a picnic in the park, a walk along the beach, play a game of Scrabble, read a book together or have a cup of tea or conversation with someone you haven’t seen for a while. Again my thanks for your understanding with me being away so much of this term. We have a wonderful team of professionals at OLOR who work so hard for your children. I am much improved and look forward to returning in Term 2 feeling fully well. Best wishes for a lovely holiday break. Jacinta Crowe - Principal.

Enrolments for Kindergarten 2017 Our next round of interviews for Kindergarten 2017 will take place on Saturday 30 April. If you have a little one starting next year or know neighbours or friends looking for placement in 2017, please have them contact the office for enrolment forms.
