Important information Please read this programme carefully and take note of important appointments and dates. You should keep the programme after the Orientation Week is over, as it also contains information about other meetings you should attend in the next couple of weeks. Also read the Checklist - the brochure has essential information that will help you during your first weeks in Trondheim. During Orientation Week you will at times be split into groups. It is important that you read this guide carefully to find out which activities you have to attend. ALL MASTER

EXCHANGE

Activities for everyone Activities for master’s students enrolled in a degree programme at NTNU, including Erasmus Mundus and Joint Nordic degrees. Activities for exchange, Erasmus and freemover students (both at master’s and bachelor’s level).

Registration and fee There is a NOK 300 fee to participate in the social part of the Orientation Week. The fee covers all provided meals, excursions and activities, entry tickets and lots of fun. Please note that the registration deadline is 29 July. Check www.ntnu.edu/lifeandhousing/trondheim/new-student to register. The information meetings, police appointments and health checks are free of charge. You do not need to register for this part of the Orientation Week.

During registration you will receive a ribbon if you have paid the fee to participate in the social part of the Orientation Week. This ribbon acts as proof of payment – and it is your entry ticket. You should therefore wear/bring the ribbon to all the social activities.

HIKING TRIP You must show your ribbon to participate in this activity. The hiking trip is an ideal chance to discover the great outdoors Trondheim has to offer. You can select one of ten different trails/routes. All routes pass spectacular scenery, with views of lakes, forests and streams. Some routes are more challenging than others; it is very important that you pick a trail that is suited to your fitness level and equipment! You must select a trail/route when you register online for the Orientation Programme. Buses have been ordered according to the number of students who have registered for a specific trail, so it will not be possible to switch groups once you have registered. Also note that you will have to get home on your own, either by bus or tram.

KUBB TOURNAMENT Kubb is a game said to have roots back to the Viking age, but there is no firm evidence of this. Today’s version originated on the island of Gotland in Sweden. It can be played by 2-12 players, and the game consists of 1 king, 10 kubbs and 6 throwing sticks. Slight variations of the rules exists, but the ultimate object is to knock the “king” over. This, together with the strategic nature of the game, has led some players to call it “Viking Chess”. The winners of the 63 Degrees North and Trondheim Games will also be announced. Please note that alcoholic beverages are not permitted on campus.

The master’s degree students will meet for their police appointments per faculty, and the exchange students will meet in alphabetical order by surnames. These appointments are for students already holding a permit before arrival, but who need to arrange for their residence cards (Oppholdskort). The residence card (Oppholdskort) is the certificate documenting that you are staying legally in Norway. You will normally receive your residence card within 10 days. For students attending the prearranged group appointments, the residence cards will be sent to the Office of International Relations. We will notify you per email when you can come and collect your residence card. Do not book an appointment of your own if you intend to take part in the group appointments! Students who are unable to meet for the group appointments, and non-EU/EEA students who are not holding a residence permit prior to arrival, must book their own appointment with the Immigration. Please note that it may take several weeks to get an appointment on your own. See the next pages (26-27) for information on when you are scheduled for the appointment.

TUBERCULOSIS EXAMINATION

Do not book an appointment on your own if you intend to take part in one of the group appointments.

Immigration regulations require that citizens of some countries must be tested for tuberculosis if they are staying more than three months in Norway. The Office of International Relations will arrange group appointments for all students required to take the test. You will be notified by email soon after the Orientation Week is over. Please note that if you do not turn up for your scheduled appointment the police will be notified.

Students who are unable to meet for the group appointments must book an appointment with the Immigration Department at the Police Station themselves. Please note that it may take several weeks to get an appointment on your own.

The lawn behind the Main Building

KarriereDagene-NTNU is Norway’s largest career fair, taking place at NTNU Gløshaugen on the lawn behind the main building. Events, such as lectures, courses and case competitions, will start on 19 September. The exhibition hall is open on 21 and 22 September, with hundreds of companies waiting to get in touch with you. The intention behind the career fair is to connect relevant companies with students at NTNU. Visit the exhibition hall, and who knows; maybe you will find your dream job!
