Air Force Hockey 2000-01 " Page 2 hockey operations in 1996. He was also the Moose head coach and general manager for two seasons and led the team to a 52-56-16 record. Serratore was the head coach at Denver from 1990-1994 posting a 49-91-9 record. Serratore spent seven seasons in the United States Hockey League with three different teams and collected a combined record of 247-103-6. He was named general manager of the year twice and coach of the year once in the USHL. The Serratore Magic: In the two years prior to Serratore’s arrival, the Falcons won a combined 12 games, all at home, and won just 24 percent of their games. In his fourth season, Serratore has led the Falcons to 56 wins and has won 48 percent of his games. Perhaps the most accurate measure of any Academy coach is his success against the other academies. Serratore is perfect in that regard. Since Navy does not have a varsity team, the only competition is against Army. At Air Force, Serratore is undefeated with a 6-0-1 mark against the Black Knights. Bradley moves up list: Senior winger Scott Bradley continues to climb up the career scoring list. The winger from Colorado Springs has averaged 32 points per season and could rank among the top 15 scorers in Air Force history. Bradley has 10 points this season and 107 in 120 career games. played in 86 games while fellow tender Sean Broderick has played in 39. The junior class is also very experienced as they were forced into prominent roles on the team as freshmen. They have responded by producing three of the team’s top five scorers from last season and two of the top six defensemen. Brian Gornick, Jace Anders and Derek Olson have missed just two games in three years and have played in 85 career games. Brian Rodgers has played in 83 games while Ryan Smith has played in 60 games. Penalty Kill Strong: National statistics are not yet compiled, but Air Force would rank among the leaders in penalty kill. Air Force has killed 59 of 67 opponent power plays for an 88.1 penalty kill percentage. The Falcons had killed 29 straight power plays before Augsburg scored a PPG on their first power play Nov. 10. Nothing Settled After 60: In Air Force’s 12 games this season, three straight have gone into overtime. Overtime has not been kind to the Falcons as the team is 0-2-1 when the game goes into the extra period. Both Niagara games went into overtime with Air Force walking away 0-1-1 in those games. The next game was a 4-3 overtime loss to Findlay. Last season, Air Force played four overtime games. So Close: Three of Air Force’s four losses this season have each been by one goal with two of them coming in overtime. Air Force is 1-3 in one-goal games. Air Force was 4-4 in one-goal games last season. Streaky Season: The 2000-01 season has already been a streaky one for the Falcons. AFA opened the season with a three-game winning streak. The 3-2 loss to Quinnipiac ended the winning streak and started a four-game winless streak (0-3-1). A 3-1 victory over Findlay, Nov. 4, began a four-game winning streak that ended vs. Wayne State, Nov. 18. The Comforts of Home: Frank Serratore has brought winning hockey back to the Cadet Ice Arena. After back-to-back home losing seasons in 1996 and 1997, the Falcons have won 68 percent of their home games since 1998-99 (29-126). The team posted the best home winning percentage in 10 years last season (.722). This season, Air Force is 5-2-1 at home. Road to Success: Serratore has put the words road and success together in the same sentence. Prior to Serratore taking over the Falcons in 1997-98, AFA won just eight road games in the

six years. Under the fourth-year coach, the Falcons have won 14 road games. In the last 42 road games, the Falcons are 14-28 (33.3 percent). The Falcons won seven road games last season to tie the second most in school history. Air Force has won two road games this season. Recently: Air Force split a two-game conference series with Wayne State in Michigan, Nov. 1718. Nov. 17 vs.Wayne State: Air Force opened up a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-3 victory over Wayne State. Air Force jumped on the board in the game’s first minute as Andy Berg scored from Brian Rodgers and Jeff Zurick 41 seconds into the game. The Falcons then scored two quick goals in the second period for a 3-0 lead. Trailing 3-0, Wayne State came back with two goals midway through the second period. Air Force scored a power-play goal early in the third period for a 4-2 lead. Brian Gornick netted the game-winner from Jace Anders and Scott Zwiers at 7:04. Nov. 18 vs.Wayne State: Special teams have been Air Force’s strength all season, but it was the Falcons’ downfall in a 5-2 loss to Wayne State. The loss ended the Falcons’ four-game winning streak. The Falcons had 12 power plays in the game but only scored on one of them. The Warriors added a short-handed goal early in the second period for a 2-0 lead. Gornick got the Falcons on the board in the second period to make the score 2-1. After Wayne State scored two more goals to take a 4-1 lead, Gornick netted his second goal of the night. The Warriors added a late goal to put the Falcons away. On Deck: Air Force hosts the third annual Radisson Inn Hockey Classic, Dec. 8-9, at the Cadet Ice Arena. Connecticut College faces RIT in the first game, Friday, at 3:05 p.m. AFA plays St. Michael’s Friday at 7:05. The consolation game is Saturday at 3:05 p.m. with the championship game at 7:05 p.m.
