We visit the old part of town and see buildings from the very start of the Danish trading station, the busy fishing harbor, the old church and the museum. I5: Helicopter to Ilulissat Ice fjord As a new service you can now pre-book our helicopter excursion in Ilulissat. From Ilulissat we fly over the mountains and fjord systems before we reach Ilulissat Ice Fjord, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Operation depend on weather and helicopter capacity. Duration: 20 min. flying time Price: USD 300 I6: Hunter's Settlement - Ilimanaq By boat to the settlement of Ilimanaq, which is situated just south of the Kangia Ice Fjord. Ilimanaq has a population of approx. 80 persons mainly depending upon fishing and hunting. A completely different world compared to the town of Ilulissat. Upon arrival to Ilimanaq guided tour of the settlement before enjoying lunch with a local family. Can also be operated by night at a small surcharge of DKK 250 per person. Duration: 2 hours (approx.) Price: USD 40 I8 The Calving Glacier Eqi & Inuit Settlement Ataa Eqip Glacier is the only glacier in the Ilulissat area where we often experience the glacier calving. We cruise in front of the 5 km wide glacier for around 1 hour and hope for the unique sight of an iceberg breaking off. Afterwards we continue to the small settlement of Ataa, a former trading station, where we will enjoy a delicious 2-course lunch including a glass of wine. I9: Fishing tour We sail to the fishing spot of the day, most probably near Bredebugt or at the mouth of the Ilulissat Ice Fjord. While waiting for our catch we have time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. By the end of the day we will hopefully bring home different sorts of fish like cod, halibut, redfish and catfish. Price: USD 260 including lunch I10: Feeding the dogs Ilulissat is dog sledging territory and the approximately 3500 dogs in town are still used for both work and play every winter. We invite you to join the feeding of a dog team. You can see, feel, touch and certainly hear the howling of 20 hungry dogs. Price: USD 40 I11: Whale Safari We sail out into the Disko Bay to spot whales. In the summer time humpback whales come to the Disko Bay to feed on the capelin, a small herring-like fish. As the humpback whales are protected from hunting they are very trusting and can often be enjoyed at close range. However, as this is not a zoo there is of course no guarantee of seeing whales. I15: Qasigiannguit: Experiencing the old Inuit way of life Only with Arctic Adventure you can go on a guided day trip to the beautiful town of Qasigiannguit. Every Sunday we have a boat sailing to the old town, for a day of exploring the old Thule culture. Qasigiannguit is located in the eastern corner of the Disko Bay. It is one of the oldest towns in Greenland and has around 1200 habitants. We will enjoy lunch at the hotel and a city tour before delving into the old Thule culture. Project Living Settlement is a group of local volunteers who manufacture tools, leather clothes and household items based on the scientific knowledge of the Thule culture. Women's boats and kayaks are put in the water, and the group, wearing Inuit clothes, gets ready to take their audience on a summer day trip just like a Thule Family in the 1700s. Eqi, Summer EQI1: Hike to the Lagoon, the moraine and the glacier When you are at Camp Eqi, you do not want to miss a hike with a fantastic view of the glacier. From the huts we hike around the small lagoon at the southern end of the glacier. There are often large flocks of geese in the lagoon in the breeding season. The trip goes further up the moraine where we can look down into the enormous cracks in the glacier few meters away from us. EQI2: In the footstep of Paul-Emile Victor The trek starts at Camp Eqi, and from there we follow the footsteps of French polar explorer PaulÈmile Victor all the way to the Inland Ice Cap.
