Enhance Patient-Ventilator Synchrony Puritan Bennett™ 840 Dynamic Patient Support Software Package Research indicates that improved patient-ventilator synchrony helps facilitate weaning patients from mechanical breathing.1 The Puritan Bennett™ 840 Dynamic Patient Support Software Package helps improve patient-ventilator synchrony through a suite of advanced ventilatory functionality.*** This software package enables clinicians to help patients breathe at lower airway pressures, overcome the challenges of volume loss related to gas leaks, adjust ventilation support levels based on patient demand and allow your patients to breathe spontaneously at two levels of positive airway pressure. Help improve synchrony by delivering positive airway pressure that is directly proportional to the patient’s ventilatory drive. The PAV™*+ software option for the Puritan Bennett™ 840 ventilator uses a sophisticated software algorithm to Deliver pressure-based breaths with target tidal volumes, so patients can breathe more comfortably at lower airway pressure, and allow patients to breathe spontaneously at two levels of positive airway pressure.

continuously and automatically adjust delivered pressure based on measurements taken throughout the inspiratory cycle. This helps maintain an appropriate degree of support, thereby helping to improve patient-ventilator synchrony. Enable spontaneous breathing at two levels of positive airway pressure. The Bi-Level Software Option for the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator enables synchronized transition between positive airway pressure levels with patient breathing, augmentation of all spontaneous breathing at both positive airway pressure levels with at least 1.5 cm H2O support, and monitoring of spirometry for all spontaneous breaths at both positive airway pressure levels. Overcome the imposed work of breathing through an artificial airway. The Puritan Bennett 840 Ventilator Tube Compensation Software automatically compensates for resistance in gas flow through the endotracheal or tracheostomy tube, thereby helping to increase patient comfort. Compensate for leaks in pressure-based breaths. The Leak Compensation Software Option for the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator automatically adjusts for leaks of up to 10 Lpm for neonates, 40 Lpm for pediatric patients and 65 Lpm for adults, which minimizes the guesswork in determining the appropriate settings to compensate for a leak, regardless of patient type. Deliver two different breath types from one system. The VV+ Software Option for the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator combines Volume Control Plus (VC+) for delivery of mandatory breaths and Volume Support (VS) for delivery of patient-initiated breaths, supporting automated control of patient tidal volumes for improved synchrony. *** Compared with the pressure support function of the Puritan Bennett™ 840 Ventilator.

Advanced Care for Critically Ill Patients Puritan Bennett™ 840 Long-Term Care Software Package Your critically ill patients facing prolonged recovery scenarios present challenges. For these patients, optimal patient-ventilator synchrony is a key factor in maintaining comfort and speeding recovery. Moreover, clinicians need timely and accurate clinical data to make ongoing adjustments in the course of treatment and to determine weaning readiness. The Puritan Bennett™ 840 Ventilator Long-Term Care Software Package is designed to help clinicians meet the needs of this complex patient population. Advanced features may help reduce the work of breathing, overcome the challenges of volume loss related to gas leaks, and may improve patient-ventilator synchrony and patient comfort.2 The software can also assess complex respiratory maneuvers and trend data in support of ongoing therapy adjustments. Help improve synchrony by delivering positive airway pressure that is directly proportional to the patient’s ventilatory drive. The PAV™*+ Software Option for the Puritan Bennett™ 840 ventilator helps reduce work of breathing (WOB) by amplifying the patient’s effort to breathe, adapts to changes in resistance and compliance—improving respiratory load compensation—and delivers a positive pressure in proportion to a patient’s spontaneous effort. Instantly assess lung health and performance. Data from the Respiratory Mechanics Software Option for the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator provides coached respiratory maneuvers, such as negative inspiratory force (NIF) and vital capacity (VC), to allow clinicians to assess lung health and performance. Evaluate trends to plot treatment course. The Trending Software Option for the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator provides clinicians with time-stamped displays of ventilator settings, monitored patient data and specific events for intervals of up to 72 hours. This enables clinicians to assess the effectiveness of current therapy and assists in determining the course of treatment.

Leverage advanced features to improve patient-ventilator synchrony and perform accurate lung assessments to determine patient progress.

Provide Safe, Reliable Support During Intrahospital Transport Emergencies Puritan Bennett™ 840 Ventilator Independence Hardware Package Inevitably, mechanically ventilated patients require mobility, whether for quick transfers from the PACU to the ICU or for longer trips to radiology. Ventilation must also continue in the event of a power outage or natural disaster. Moreover, moving patients to alternative means of ventilation can compromise patient safety, while reducing efficiencies and increasing incremental expenditures. The Puritan Bennett™ 840 Ventilator Independence Hardware Package from Covidien can help clinicians deliver safe and reliable ventilatory support to patients during intrahospital transport and in challenging situations, such as power outages or a compromised source of compressed air. The hardware package features a battery that provides the ability to operate the ventilator for up to four hours†† and a cylinder mounting bracket that supports the transport of two gas cylinders, thereby reducing the need for a transport ventilator. Also, a modular compressor can be used as an alternative air source if compressed wall or bottled air is unavailable.

Dual-Cylinder Mounting Bracket Allows for efficient transportation of compressed gas so patients can be ventilated during intrahospital transport and when wall or compressor air is unavailable Modular Compressor Provides an alternative air source if compressed wall or bottled air is unavailable Extended Backup Power Source (BPS) Supports patient safety in the event of a transfer or power outage with up to four hours†† of continuous battery power

Assumes the following: hardware—a new, fully charged four-hour BPS, an AJA Xena board and a 10.4-in. GUI; ambient environmental temperature—20° C to 25° C; default ventilator settings for an IBW of 70 kg—tidal volume (VT) at 510 mL and respiratory rate (f) at 10 breaths per minute.
