n Translations Kyrie (from Petite Messe Solennelle) Lord have mercy. O Vos Omnes Lamentations 1:12 O all you who walk by on the road, pay attention and see if there be any sorrow like my sorrow. Pay attention, all people, and see if there be any sorrow like my sorrow. Oh Occhi Manza Mia Oh those eyes of my lover, those golden eyelashes! Oh resplendent as the face of the moon! Keep me in mind, my fair delight, Cast your eyes on me, do please me. Amor de mi Alma (You Are the Love of My Soul) Garcilaso de la Vega (1503-1536) I was born to love only you; My soul has formed you to its measure; I want you as a garment for my soul. Your very image is written on my soul; Such indescribable intimacy I hide even from you. All that I have, I owe to you; For you I was born, for you I live, For you I must die, and for you I give my last breath. Laudate Pueri Praise the Lord, ye servants; O praise the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth for evermore. The Lord’s name is praised from the rising up of the sun unto the going down of the same. The Lord is high above all people and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the Lord our God, that hath his dweliing so high and yet humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven and earth? He taketh up the simple out of the dust; and lifteth the poor out of the mire That he may set him with the princes, even with the princes of his people. He maketh the barren woman to dwell in her house and to be joyful mother of children.

Audite Nova! Oyez, oyez! The farmer from Eselkirchen has a plump goose, with a long, fat, thick, willowy neck: Bring the goose hence, my trusty Jonney! Shear, pluck, scald, roast, carve and devour it! That’s St. Martin’s bird, whom we would not turn against! Servant Heinz, bring some good wine and pour bravely; let it go all around, and in God’s name let us drink good wine and beer to the boiled, roasted, young goose that it do us no ill.

Benedicamus Domino Let us give praise to the Lord. Let us give thanks to God. Wer da gläubet und getauft wird Chorus: Whoever believes and is baptized, he shall be saved. Aria: Faith is the pledge of the love that Jesus has for his own people.   Therefore purely out of a loving impulse, when he transcribed me   in the book of life, he bestowed upon me this gem. Chorale: Lord God the Father, my mighty hero, you have ever loved me,   before the world, in your son. Your son has betrothed himself to me.   He is my treasure, I am his bride who is most highly delighted in him.   Eia! Heavenly life shall he give me there above. Forever shall my heart   praise him! Recitative: You mortals, do you long with me to behold the face of God?   Then you should not build upon good works, for although a Christian   must indeed practice good works, yet faith alone ensures that before   God we are justified and saved. Aria: Faith gives the soul wings to soar up into the heavens; baptism is   the seal of grace that brings us the blessing of God. And therefore   he is called a saved Christian who believes and is baptized. Chorale: Grant me faith in your son Jesus Christ. Cleanse me from my sin.   Here at this time you will not deny me. You have promised that he   will take away my sins and free me of their burden. For Guidance Angel of God, you who are the guardian of me, Illuminate, protect, rule and govern me, Committed to you with heavenly piety. Mille regretz It is with great regret that I leave you, and lose sight of your loving face; I suffer such grief and pain that you will see my remaining days are few.
