Prepaid: Customer pays in advance for parking; does not receive refund if leaving early.
What is EMV?
Postpaid: Customer “clocks in” at start of parking event and pays at the end of the parking event. Parker is charged for actual parking time. Hybrid (used with sensors): Customer parks & follows same procedure. When they leave, money is refunded if they left early. Processing methods for payment of digital payment: Pay as you go: Customer provides means of payment (credit/debit card) Each parking transaction is charged to that means of payment. Prepaid eWallet: Customer deposits funds into a virtual account. Transactions deplete the account balance.
EMV® is a global standard for credit and debit payment cards based on chip card technology. EMV chip-based payment cards, also known as smart cards, contain an embedded microprocessor, a type of small computer. The microprocessor chip contains the information needed to use the card for payment, and is protected by various security features.

Effective October 1, 2012, Visa expands Technology Innovation Program (TIP) to the U.S.
1. Contact your acquirer and bank
Eliminates merchant requirement to annually validate compliance with PCI Data Security Standard in year where at least 75 % of merchant's Visa transactions originate from chip-enabled terminals.
Determine what their intentions are regarding EMV and their transaction processing

Contact your equipment / system provider Examine what is available and determine a general ‘order of magnitude’ to understand associated costs

Payment Options - EMV How does EMV affect you? Chip acceptance will require service providers to carry additional data included in chip transactions, including each unique transaction message Visa to institute U.S. liability shift for counterfeit card-present POS transactions, effective October 1, 2015.
ENFORCEMENT TOOLS
If a merchant has not adopted contact chip terminals, liability for counterfeit fraud may shift to the merchant's acquirer. U.S. is one of the few countries in the world that has not committed to a liability shift associated with chip payments. The U.S. payments landscape is no longer a future of magnetic stripe technology, but one of EMV chip technology and contactless and mobile payments
