Horticulture Spring Plant Sale Friday, April 29–Sunday, May 1 In connection with the reopening of the Plant Shop is the yearly plant sale. Purchase annuals and perennials, many of which are the Gardens’ signature varieties. The Gardens’ horticulturists and Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau County will be on hand to help you select plants and answer your questions. Floral Design

Floral arrangements have graced Westbury House since its completion in 1907. This long–standing tradition makes Old Westbury Gardens the ideal location to study home floral design. Taught by Scott Lucas, Head Grower and florist for Westbury House, this floral design workshop at the Gardens not only teaches students how to create stunning arrangements, it provides them with lifelong skills they can use for personal and professional endeavors. Participants will create a traditional arrangement through the use of a variety of textures and colors. Registration fee includes all materials. $50/$45 Member. Advance registration required. Early Morning Walk

Bat Walk

OLD WESTBURY GARDENS

Nature’s Nighttime Noises

Chirp, click, buzz... Hear how a symphony of sound enhances our summertime sunsets on a guided twilight walk through the gardens. Afternoon Tea

Twilight Garden Walks

A 45-minuted guided garden tour followed by light refreshments on the South Terrace. Fridays, May 27 and July 22, 7pm $20/$15 member. Advance tickets required.

Farm to Table Evening at Orchard Hill

Cocktail Reception and 3-Course Dinner Enjoy great food and beverages at the newly refurbished Barn at Orchard Hill surrounded by stunning gardens and lawns, and of course good friends and neighbors. Midsummer Night

Guests of all ages are invited to picnic, stroll, and relax amid the gardens illuminated with lanterns and decorated by magical faeries. Macro-photo tour Junior photographers get some (tiny) perspective as they explore a larger than life world through the lens of their own camera. Growing Up and Down

Fairy or Firefly?

Walk and craft Explore the befuddling world of fairies and fireflies. Identify one from the other and see how fireflies use their magic to light up our nighttime skies. Ring Around the Rosie

The Great Tent Event

Junior naturalists enhance outdoor skills in an hour long trailblazing journey. Teams learn basic map and compass navigation, compete in a supply scavenger race, and identify risky plants in the landscape. A final tasty smores snack celebrates explorers’ sweet success. Thatched Cottage 100th Birthday Party!

Join a once in a lifetime centennial celebration in honor of the Thatched Cottage’s 100th birthday! Summer Camp

Land Lovers Science Summer Session This program, for ages 6-9, allows young ecologists to unearth the secret science of the outdoors. Daily themes from insects to flowers to wildlife will inspire fun crafts, games, and hands-on activities to enhance each day’s discoveries. July 18–22 9am–12pm $170, $150 member Fresh Takes Natural Art Summer Session This program, tailored for ages 6-9, focuses on the art making process inspired by the natural world. Drop-In Information Station and Craft Sunflowers are astounding annuals that grace the background of our Walled Garden flower beds. Harlem Renaissance Orchestra

For over 25 years, the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra has continued to feed the fire of the Big Band Era. Aurora Nealand and the Royal Roses

The Royal Roses grew out of the rich resurgence that traditional jazz is seeing in New Orleans amongst the younger generation of musicians today. Saxophonist/vocalist Aurora Nealand has been playing in various groups in New Orleans since 2005, and the Royal Roses, founded in 2010, is her first venture as a band leader. Tai Chi

Tai chi—a unique form of “moving meditation”—calms the mind, relaxes the body and strengthens the spirit. Sessions are taught by professional tai chi instructor, Linda Cafiero, and are designed for all experience levels. Wednesdays and Sundays, May–October, 10:30–11:30am (rain or shine) $18 per session (includes Gardens admission)/$8 member

Yoga for Children

Introducing your children to yoga at an early age can help them learn healthy lifestyle habits and set the foundation for a fit future. Professional instructor Linda Cafiero teaches the classes which will specifically address the children’s needs and capabilities. Classes run for 4 weeks at a time with advance registration required for a full course. Classes require at least 10 students. Kindergarten–second grade. Wednesdays, July 6–27 and August 3–24, 12:30–1:30pm $50/ $45 member for a four week course (includes admission for one accompanying adult)

Old Westbury Gardens reserves the right to change or cancel programs and events. Visit oldwestburygardens.org for any changes. Registration for all events is at oldwestburygardens.org. Where indicated advance registration or tickets are required in order to ensure adequate space or materials. All registrations will be confirmed by email or mail. If you have not received your confirmation 14 days prior to your program’s start date, call 516-333-0048 ext. 301. Refunds must be requested in writing and will be issued only if requested at least 14 days prior to the program. A 10% processing fee may be deducted from the refund. No refunds will be issued less than 14 days before the start of the program. Registrations are processed in the order in which they are received. In the event we receive your registration after a program has filled, you will automatically be placed on a waiting list. You will be notified by phone if/when a space becomes available. We will process your payment at that time. If Old Westbury Gardens cancels the program (e.g., due to rain, instructor’s illness, or insufficient enrollment) you will receive a full refund. If you are unable to attend the program you may contact our office for a receipt, which will enable you to claim your contribution as a tax-deductible gift.

Accessibility

The first floor of Westbury House is accessible. The unpaved gravel pathways through the gardens are not wheelchair accessible. Special parking is available for guests with state-issued handicap parking permits. Guests should furnish their own wheelchairs and strollers. Strollers are not permitted in Westbury House.

July and August: Special Evening Hours On Saturdays and Sundays in July and August (except for August 27) the Gardens will close at 7pm. (Westbury House still closes at 4:30pm.)Admission Fees after 4pm are: $10 general admission; $8 senior (age 62+); $5 child (ages 7‑17); free for member and ages 6 and under.
