OKLAHOMA HAY MARKET REPORT 1-12-17 Alfalfa movement remained mostly moderate but demand and inquiry have increased. Demand very good for Supreme through good dry cow and bunk hay, moderate for grinding alfalfa. Demand for grass hay light to moderate in the eastern half of the state, moderate to fairly good in central and western counties. Back-to-back weekends of wintry weather have likely contributed to the inreased interest. Growing concern over continued drying also helping boost interest. Supplemental feeding remains very active. Alfalfa Central Oklahoma: Prices steady to firm. Supreme quality large square bales 125.00-130.00, instance 135.00. Premium quality large square bales 110.00-125.00, mostly 120.00-125.00. Untested hay moving to dairies mostly 100.00 early. Good quality dry cow or bunk hay large square bales 90.00-100.00, a few sales confirmed on round bales at 90.00. Eastern Oklahoma: Small square bales 11.00-14.00 per bale. Western Oklahoma: Prices firm, highr on bunk hay. Premium quality large square bales mostly 120.00. Untested hay moving to dairies 100.00. Movement has been very active in the sale barns across the state this week. Receipts this week consisted of 100 percent over 600 lbs and 8 percent heifers. Unless otherwise stated prices are FOB weigh point with a 2-3 percent shrink or equivalent and with a 812 cent slide on calves and 4-8 cent slide on yearlings from base weights.
