OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER NOTES…

… …… …...………………….

Thunder Quick Notes: After defeating the Kings in Sacramento just 24 hours ago, the Thunder will look to defeat the Clippers at Staples Center for a second time this season while playing on the second night of the club’s eighth back-to-back of the season. With a win tonight, Oklahoma City would move to a season-high nine games above .500. Entering tonight’s contest, the Thunder has won four of the last five games and OKC is currently in the midst of a stretch in which the team is scheduled to play 12 of 15 games on the road during the month of January. Through 22 games this year the Thunder posted a record of 14-8, which equaled the start for Oklahoma City during the 2015-16 season. Additionally, OKC tipped off the season with a 6-1 record, which represented the best start in Thunder history through seven games. Second EVER: Through the first 42 games of the season, Russell Westbrook has amassed averages of 30.9 points (1st in the NBA), 10.7 rebounds (11th in the NBA) and 10.5 assists (2nd in the NBA). By reaching these benchmarks, Westbrook is now the second player in NBA history (Oscar Robertson) to average 30+ points, 10+ rebounds and 10+ assists through the first 40+ games of a NBA season. Westbrook again joins Robertson (1961-62) as the only player in NBA history to average a triple-double entering the month of January. Westbrook Triple-Double Notes: With 20 triple-doubles on the season, Russell Westbrook is now one of just three players (Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson) to record 20+ triple doubles in a single season. Westbrook now owns 57 career triple-doubles which is the most among active NBA players and sixth all-time in NBA history. His 20 triple-doubles already surpasses his total from last year (Westbrook recorded 18 triple-doubles during the 201516 season which equaled the Most since Magic Johnson during the 1981-82 season). Westbrook’s 20 triple-doubles are now the most since Wilt Chamberlain in 1967-68 (31 triple-doubles). Chamberlain was also the last player to record 18 or more triple doubles in back-to-back seasons (1966-67 and 1967-68).

ALL-TIME NBA TRIPLE-DOUBLE LEADERS Oscar Robertson: 181 Magic Johnson: 138 Jason Kidd: 107 Wilt Chamberlain: 78 Larry Bird: 59 Russell Westbrook: 57 LeBron James: 45

Translating to Wins: Dating back to the start of last season, Oklahoma City has gone a remarkable 34-4 when Westbrook records a triple-double. After going a perfect 18-0 last season in Westbrook’s triple-double games, OKC is currently 16-4 this season when Westbrook accomplishes the feat. In Westbrook’s career, the Thunder owns a 49-8 record in his 57 career triple-doubles. 20/10: In the Thunder’s last seven games Enes Kanter is averaging 20 points and 10.1 rebounds. In those games, Kanter is shooting an equally impressive 61.1 percent from the floor during this span. Stash Brothers: Through the first 42 games of the season, Steven Adams (12.0 ppg) and Enes Kanter (14.5 ppg) have combined to average 26.5 points per game while scoring at a very effective clip. Both Adams (ranks 4th; .596) and Kanter (ranks 7th; .567) rank in the top 10 in NBA field goal shooting percentage. Kanter is one of four players to come off the bench this season and average 14+ points and 6+ rebounds and his Player Efficiency Rating (PER) is currently the 13th best in the NBA. Adams and Kanter have each scored 20 or more in the same game twice this season (OKC prevailed in each of those contests). Seven Straight Triple-Doubles: After recording seven consecutive triple-doubles (11/25 at DEN -12/9 vs HOU) Russell Westbrook is now the first player since Michael Jordan (recorded seven consecutive triple–doubles from 3/25/89 – 4/6/89) to accomplish the feat. Moreover, Westbrook is just one of four players in NBA history (Wilt Chamberlain, Jordan and Oscar Robertson) to ever recorded seven consecutive triple-doubles. Only Wilt Chamberlain’s ninegame triple-double streak (3/8/68 - 3/20/68) lasted longer then what Westbrook recently accomplished. During Westbrook’s seven consecutive tripledoubles (in which OKC went 6-1), Westbrook averaged an astounding 28.9 points, 13.6 rebounds and 13.0 assists. First Half Triple Double: In the first half of the Thunder’s 26-point New Year’s Eve victory over the Clippers, Russell Westbrook recorded a triple double in the first half for the second time in his career after logging just 18 minutes and 45 seconds of game action. This represented the second fastest tripledouble of his career (Westbrook registered a triple-double in 17 minutes and 46 seconds on Apr. 11, 2016) and the third fastest in NBA history (Jim Tucker holds the NBA record by posting a triple-double in an even 17 minutes during Feb. of 1955). FAST Triple-Doubles: On Dec. 31 versus the Clippers, Russell Westbrook recorded a triple-double in the first half for the second time in his career. The game represented the 21st of Westbrook’s career in which he recorded a triple-double through three quarters of play and the seventh times he’s done so this season. During this span, no other player has accomplished this feat more than seven times (James Harden). Elite Company: Since the start of the 2009-10 season, the Thunder has won five Northwest Division titles, reached the Conference Finals on four occasions, the NBA Finals once and amassed a record of 396-204 (.660). Based on winning percentage, the Oklahoma City Thunder ranks as the fourth most winning team among the four major professional sports (NBA, NFL, MLB & NHL).

BEST RECORDS SINCE 2009-10 SEASON (includes NBA, NFL, MLB & NHL teams)

New England Patriots .773 (99-29) San Antonio Spurs .727 (434-164) Green Bay Packers .685 (87-40-1) Oklahoma City Thunder .660 (396-204) Boards are the Barometer: At the midway mark of the 2016-17 season, the Thunder is currently the third leading rebounding team in the NBA (45.7 rpg). OKC is now 9-1 this season when outrebounding the opposition by 10 or more. Additionally, the Thunder leads the NBA with respect to points in the paint (50.6 per game). Last year, the Thunder’s 8.4 rebounding differential was the fourth largest margin since 1950, when rebounding first became a statistic. There were 44 instances this past season in which OKC outrebounded the opposition by 10 or more. No other team in the NBA history has ever accomplished such a feat. OKC also led the league in offensive rebounding (The Thunder controlled 31.1% of its offensive rebound chances, which is the highest percentage for any Thunder era).

Adams at the Line: In 42 games this season Steven Adams has demonstrated drastic improvement from the free throw line. At the charity stripe this season, Adams is shooting 71.4% (90-126 FTs). Entering the 2016-17 season Adams had a career free throw shooting percentage of 55.1% (296-537 FTs). 40-Point Streak: In the three games prior to Christmas, Russell became the first player since Michael Jordan in April of 1989 to record three straight 40point double-doubles. He is also the first player since Wilt Chamberlain in 1964 to post three consecutive games with at least 40+ points, 10+ rebounds and 5+ assists. New Year’s Eve Basketball: On the final day of 2016, the Thunder claimed its biggest win of the season (26-point margin of victory) over the Los Angeles Clippers. With the win, OKC improved to 8-1 on NYE during the Oklahoma City era. In the Wins: In the Thunder’s 25 wins this season, the Thunder is outscoring the opposition by a 110.8 to 100.4 margin. In those games, OKC is limiting the opposition to just 42.7% shooting. The Thunder is now 13-2 this season when holding the opponent to fewer than 100 points. What a road to 600: On Nov. 18 versus Brooklyn, Russell Westbrook appeared in his 600th career regular season game. After recording a single rebound and his 20th point, Westbrook joined Oscar Roberson as the second player in NBA history to record 13,000 points, 3,400 rebounds and 4,500 assists through 600 games. Same Starting 5: Prior to Victor Oladipo missing the Dec. 13 game against the Blazers (right wrist sprain), the Thunder was the ONLY team in the NBA this season to feature the same starting lineup in every game. Never Before: Russell Westbrook helped lead the Thunder to a perfect 3-0 start to the season and in those games Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to register 100+ points, 30+ rebounds and 30+ assists in the first three games of a season. For the first week of the season, the NBA named Westbrook the Western Conference Player of the Week. First since Magic: After recording a second consecutive triple-double on Oct. 30 versus the Lakers, Russell Westbrook became the first player to record a triple-double in two of the first three games of the season since Magic Johnson accomplished the feat (to begin the 1982-83 season). Westbrook is one of four players all time to register two triple-doubles in the first three games of the season [Johnson (2x), Jerry Lucas and Oscar Robertson (2x)]. First since Kareem: During the Thunder’s 113-100 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 28, Russell Westbrook became the first player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1/19/75) to register a triple-double that included 50+ points scored. On the night, Westbrook, scored 51 points to go along with a team-high 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Westbrook equaled a Thunder record by scoring 23 points in the third quarter alone. By accomplishing the feat, Westbrook is now one of just five players (Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Richie Guerin and Wilt Chamberlain) in NBA history to post a triple-double that included 50+ points scored. International Flavor: Currently, the 2016-17 Thunder roster features five international players (places OKC in top third of the league with respect to number of international players). The NBA as a whole features a record 113 international players entering this season.

INTERNATIONAL THUNDER PLAYERS Alex Abrines (Spain) Steven Adams (New Zealand) Enes Kanter (Turkey) Joffrey Lauvergne (France) Domantas Sabonis (Lithuania)

Preseason is Spain: The Thunder began exhibition play with a pair of preseason contests in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain. Oklahoma City returned stateside after splitting their two contests in Europe against Real Madrid and FC Barcelona Lassa. Oklahoma City participated in the Global Games Europe for the first time since 2013 when the Thunder faced-off against the Philadelphia 76ers in Manchester, England and Fenerbahçe Ulker in Istanbul, Turkey. Oklahoma City finished 2016 preseason play with a record of 3-3 after winning their last two exhibition games versus Minnesota and Denver by a combined 28 points. Home Opener: On Oct. 28 at Chesapeake Energy Arena, the Thunder prevailed over the Phoenix Suns in overtime to claim an eighth consecutive home opening victory. After defeating the 76ers in Philadelphia two nights earlier, the Thunder improved to 6-3 in season openers during the Oklahoma City era. OKC is Fan Friendly: The Thunder once again played in front of a packed-house during the entire 2015-16 season as fans continued to fill Chesapeake Energy Arena. After registering sellouts during all 41 home games in each of the five previous seasons, the Thunder has recorded sellouts in 233 consecutive regular season home outings and 277 games overall when including the postseason. Fans in attendance this season will continue to enjoy the improvements made to Chesapeake Energy Arena as part of a taxpayer funded initiative passed in March of 2008. Thanks to the publically funded initiative, the team’s arena boasts new terrace suites, an updated main concourse with new concession stands, a new Sunset Lounge on the Club Level and a first-class courtside club. Not too Shabby: Since arriving in Oklahoma City, the Thunder has proven to be one of the top performing teams in the NBA during the past seven seasons. The charts below highlight the Thunder’s overall and home records since the start of the 2009-10 season.

Division Champs: During the 2015-16 season, the Thunder secured a fifth Northwest Division title in the past six years and by accomplishing the feat, OKC became just the seventh team in NBA history to win five division titles in six seasons. Additionally, the Thunder became just the third team to win five out of seven division titles immediately following a season with 23 or fewer wins. The first two were the St. Louis Hawks from 1953-54 to 1960-61, and the Baltimore/Capital Bullets from 1966-67 to 1973-74. Finally, since the start of the 2008-09 season, the Thunder is one of two teams (San Antonio) to win a division title in five of six seasons. Postseason Success: After defeating the Spurs in the Conference Semifinals this past season, the Thunder has now won 10 playoff series in the last five seasons. Only the Miami Heat (15) has won more postseason series during this span (San Antonio has also won 10 playoff series). Just Another Back-2-Back: Entering the 2016-17 season, the Thunder is set to compete in 14 back-to-back sets. OKC is 4-4 on the first night and 2-5 on the second night of a back-to-back, respectively. Last season Oklahoma City played in 16 back-to-backs. OKC finished the year going 12-4 in the first game of a back-to-back and 6-10 on the second night. Billy on Board: In his first season (2015-16 season) at the helm of the Thunder, Billy Donovan became the only first-year NBA head coach in league history to win 55 games after coming directly from the college ranks. Additionally, Donovan became just the third first year head coach in the last 15 years to win 55+ games during his first season (Kerr & Thibodeau). On April 30, 2015 Billy Donovan was named the third head coach in Thunder history after enjoying an incredibly successful college coaching career which spanned more than two decades. During the past 19 years as head coach at the University of Florida, Donovan led the Gators to two National Championships and four trips to the Final Four while amassing a record of 467-186 (.715). Last season, Donovan became the second youngest coach in NCAA history (Bob Knight) to claim 500 wins. Sustaining Success: In the past seven season, OKC has compiled the second best Season Winning % Playoff Finish record in the NBA (behind San Antonio). After the 2007-08 season in which 2015-16 .671 (55-27) Advanced to Conference Finals Oklahoma City won 20 games after a 3-29 start, the Thunder found ways to 2013-14 .548 (45-37) Did not qualify improve the club in each of the four subsequent seasons. On March 24 of last season, the Thunder claimed a 222009-10 .610 (50-32) Lost in first round point home victory over the Jazz and in the process, OKC recorded the team’s 50th 2008-09 .280 (23-59) Did not qualify win of the season. Oklahoma City has now finished with a winning percentage of .610 (equivalent to 50 wins) six times dating back to the 2009-10 season. Only the San Antonio Spurs (seven seasons with .610 winning percentage), have reached that benchmark more during this period. The chart to the right illustrates the development of the Thunder program through the years.
