4. Description of limitations A.

Use Snow Leopard compatibility fix

When attempting to print, an error is displayed that reads: "The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer's software or contact the printer manufacturer for assistance." Snow Leopard requires printer software to be installed with different file and directory permissions from older versions of Mac OS X. We have released an updater program that changes the printer software permissions to ones appropriate for Snow Leopard. You can download this Snow Leopard compatibility fix from the Oki website. To use the Snow Leopard compatibility fix: 1. If you have not already done so, install the printer driver first. 2. On the support section of the Oki website, search for Mac OS X printer drivers for your model. 3. Download the file “Snow Leopard compatibility fix for Oki PostScript drivers”. 4. Run the installer program contained in the Snow Leopard compatibility fix. This changes the file and directory permissions on the Oki printer software, allowing you to print. Note: if you’ve previously ran the compatibility fix and then install a new printer driver, you must run the compatibility fix again.

Some PostScript driver options do not display in 64-bit applications

Some of the applications supplied with Snow Leopard run in 64-bit mode, including iCal, Mail, Preview and Safari. If you try to print from one of these applications, some of the driver options are not displayed correctly although it’s still possible to print. The options that are not displayed properly may still visible in the “Printer Features” section of the driver. Follow the procedure below to display the driver options correctly: 1. Quit the application 2. Open the Applications folder (or other folder where the app is stored) 3. Select the app icon and choose File > Get Info 4. Select the option “Open in 32-bit mode” 5. Close the Get Info window 6. Launch the app and the driver options will now display correctly

English PPD is auto-selected

When using French, German, Italian or Spanish Mac OS X, some parts of the printer driver will be in English. This is caused by Snow Leopard always choosing the English PPD (PostScript Printer Description) file, regardless of your language. To fix this problem you must manually select the PPD file for your language using the following procedure: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Open the Mac OS X Print & Fax Preferences Ensure your printer or MFP is selected Click Options & Supplies Click Driver Choose the Print Using menu and choose Other... Select the correct PPD file for your language. The PPD files are located in the following locations:

Oki driver is not automatically selected for USB connections

When connected to a USB port, Mac OS X may choose “Generic PCL Laser Printer” as the driver for your printer. This generic driver is supplied by Apple and is not as fully-featured as the Oki-supplied printer driver.

To use the Oki printer driver: 1. When connecting to your printer, click “More Printers...” in the Add Printer window. 2. Choose “Oki USB” from the pop-up menu, choose your printer and click Add.

Rosetta required for installer

Rosetta is a Mac OS X component that is supplied by Apple. It allows older programs to run on Intel Macs. Rosetta is no longer installed in Snow Leopard by default. When some installers or utilities are launched, Snow Leopard displays a message such as: "To open this program, you need to install Rosetta". Clicking Install downloads and installs Rosetta from Apple Software Update.

If you don’t have an internet connection, you can install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD. 1. Insert your Snow Leopard DVD 2. Open the folder “Optional Installs” 3. Launch “Optional Installs.mpkg”

5. Other Compatibility Notes AppleTalk not supported Snow Leopard doesn’t support AppleTalk. Use Bonjour or TCP/IP to print to a network printer instead.

Restart computer after connecting a printer using USB cable You may experience the following problems using your printer over a USB connection with Snow Leopard: - When adding a PostScript printer, Snow Leopard will attempt to configure the hardware options by querying the printer, but is not able to do so and displays 'Determining Installable Options' indefinitely. You need to select the Installable Options manually by clicking 'Configure...'. - After adding a printer, you need to restart your computer. If you do not restart your computer, you may experience problems sending jobs to the printer. These problems do not affect network connections.

6. Product Specific Notes C130n This model is not supported on Snow Leopard. Running the Snow Leopard compatibility fix should allow you to use your printer as an interim solution, but we cannot guarantee the proper operation of this model under Snow Leopard at the moment.

C9800, C9800GA, ES3640e, ES3640eMFP 1. These models are not supported on Snow Leopard. Running the Snow Leopard compatibility fix should allow you to use your device as an interim solution, but we cannot guarantee the proper operation of these models under Snow Leopard at the moment. 2. If using a Bonjour connection, jobs are automatically saved to the printer’s Hold queue instead of being printed. As a workaround, please use an IP address (LPD) connection instead.

MB260, MB270, MB280 1. These models are not supported on Snow Leopard. Running the Snow Leopard compatibility fix should allow you to use your device as an interim solution, but we cannot guarantee the proper operation of these models under Snow Leopard at the moment. 2. When connecting to the device in Print & Fax Preferences, Snow Leopard might display a message saying “The selected printer software may be available from Apple. Click Add to download it and add this printer”. This message is incorrect as the software is not available from Apple. Use the software provided by Oki instead. 3. Snow Leopard may not automatically select the correct printer driver. To choose the correct driver, choose “Select Printer Software” and in the search box type “Laser Pro LL2”. Choose “Laser Pro LL2” if you have installed the Raster driver, choose “Laser Pro LL2 PCL” if you have installed the PCL6 driver.
