WELCOME TO MARGARET RIVER GOURMET ESCAPE PRESENTED BY AUDI, ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S PREMIER CULINARY FESTIVALS. This year’s festival will feature a great range of events set in some of the most extraordinary locations in the Margaret River Region such as stunning beaches, tall timber forests, vineyards and even the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, the 1.8km Busselton Jetty. The festival continues to grow in popularity, attracting more than 50 talented food and wine experts from across Australia and the world, including countries such as the UK, Singapore, Russia, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, France, Indonesia and Mexico. Food and wine tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the tourism industry worldwide, and events such as Margaret River Gourmet Escape will help position WA as a global leader in culinary tourism. The festival is proudly supported by the State Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for Regions.

Royalties for Regions invests in a variety of initiatives to help grow Western Australia’s regional areas into thriving and sustainable communities. Tourism is a vital industry for regional Western Australia. In 2014, the total visitor spend in the State was $8.6 billion and $3.8 billion of this was spent in regional WA. The State Government’s goal is to see the contribution of regional tourism increase to $4.75 billion by 2020. Supporting events such as Margaret River Gourmet Escape will help us achieve that goal. Regional events generate valuable national and international promotion for regional Western Australia, provide a boost to the economy and add vibrancy to towns, making them exciting places to visit, as well as great places to live. Margaret River Gourmet Escape presented by Audi invites you to the Margaret River Wine Region for an extraordinary festival of food and wine. Join over 50 culinary superstars including Marco Pierre White, Rick Stein, Matt Moran and Adriano Zumbo plus many more as they share their knowledge and experiences at an unparalled line up of unique events, stunning dinners, and exclusive collaborations taking place across 20-22 November 2015.  The heart of the festival is the Gourmet Village hosted at Leeuwin Estate Winery, Saturday 21st Nov 11am – 5:30pm and Sunday 22nd Nov 11am-5pm. It is here that all our stars will appear across the weekend programme including on the Miele Chef’s Theatre where you can see them in action taking part in cooking demonstrations whilst they share their years of experience and culinary wisdom! Inside the village you can also devour more dishes than ever before from the Gourmet Village Restaurants, take part in a Canon Food Photography Class, rustle up some sauerkraut in the Fermenting Workshop and visit Gourmet Village Brewhouse to enjoy tasting six beers from local brewers, along with unlocking the secrets behind what makes a fine wine in the Wine Lounge. Running alongside the Gourmet Village, there are over 50 Satellite Events to enjoy set amongst the most beautiful locations the region has to offer; from Busselton to Augusta, there are some truly

breathtaking experiences to indulge in including events at brand new venues such as the Margaret River Secret Garden and the Ngilgi Caves. WESTERN AUSTRALIA’S SENSATIONAL SEAFOOD IS ON PARADE AT GOURMET ESCAPE. Western Australia produces some of the world’s finest seafood and what makes it so special is that it comes from some of the world’s most sustainable fisheries. Knowing that it is sustainably harvested enhances the appreciation. To provide this assurance, Western Australia is rolling out a visionary initiative to offer every commercial fishery the opportunity to be independently certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). A fishery that is MSC-certified has passed the world's most vigorous, scientific standard for sustainability. WA’s line-up of MSC-certified fisheries features Exmouth Gulf and Shark Bay prawns, which gained MSC certification in October. They join WA’s MSC-certified Western Rock Lobster, the first in the world to be MSC-certified, and Patagonian Toothfish.

Fisheries currently in MSC full assessment are Mandurah Blue Swimmer Crab (both commercial and recreational) and Sea Mullet, Crystal Crab and Broome’s Australian South Sea Pearls. More fisheries will soon be joining the MSC program! The long-term MSC plan is the result of a partnership between the State Government (which has provided a $14.5m funding to facilitate MSC certification), WAFIC (the peak body representing professional fishing, pearling and aquaculture) and Recfishwest (the body representing recreational fishers).
