ECCO CONFERENCE CENTER The lighting system inside and outside the ECCO Conference Center was designed, manufactured and supplied by OKHOLM LIGHTING in cooperation with ECCO’s own designers, the lead consultants INGENIØR’NE and the architectural firm DISSING + WEITLING. The ECCO Conference Center was created with the aim of uniting the architectural expression of the building with the strong values that characterise ECCO. The result is in every way exceptional. The imposing low-energy building is a holistic experience that supports ECCO’s identity. Emphasis has been placed on innovation, tradition, craftsmanship, technology and energy. FOCUS ON LIGHT The positive ambience and the sense of intimacy, tranquillity and peace are also greatly emphasised by the lighting, which helps to both highlight function and create atmosphere. The task of internally and externally lighting the circular building was placed in the hands of OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S, a company with 40 years of experience in producing lighting for large spaces, and which specialises in customised lighting solutions, in close cooperation with architects and building clients. “The hallmark of the lighting at the ECCO Hotel and Conference Center has been the demand for high lighting quality, functionality, environmental friendliness, operating costs and attention to detail,” says managing director Peter Okholm of OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S, who developed the lighting system, which mainly consists of new designs, in collaboration with INGENIØR’NE and architect Daniel V. Hayden of Dissing + Weitling. “In addition to newly-developed fixtures – including the FLOAT series, which consists of circular LED downlights in three different sizes, integrated into the ceilings in showrooms, common areas and meeting rooms – indirect lighting has been created in the circular room corridors and in wall niches in the relaxation zones,” explains Peter Okholm, who was also responsible for the development of the oxidized steel LED number signs that hang outside each room. “We have also developed LED bedside lamps for the rooms, and provided a range of LED solutions in cooperation with our agency partner LED Linear, which is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of flexible, linear LED solutions,” says Peter Okholm, who placed the crowning glory on the task with the large sculptural ARMILLA chandelier that guests encounter as soon as they step into the new hotel and conference centre. The chandelier, originally designed and developed by architect Erik Lassen for the London store of the jewellery company Tiffany & Co., is shaped like a spherical candle globe and equipped with sixty 5W light sources. The hallmark of the task has been: “detail, custom design and light quality” – qualities that OKHOLM LIGHTING epitomises. A great deal of attention has been lavished on the details in this beautiful building – and it has been an exciting, professionally challenging and instructive task to provide the lighting for a project in which everything comes together to form a synthesis.

SPACE FOR CREATIVITY OKHOLM LIGHTING is a flexible, solution-oriented company that focuses on efficient and professional project management. We master every aspect of lighting production, and can therefore work in close collaboration with the project developer in all phases of construction. We are highly committed and love to try out other people’s ideas with quick mock-ups, and ultimately develop new designs. That is how the FLOAT series arose.

MORE THAN FUNCTIONALITY Modern lighting for large spaces serves many purposes. The lighting supports the functions of the space by creating an atmosphere that naturally harmonises with its functionality. Intimacy, solemnity and security are examples of such atmospheres. Lighting is increasingly becoming an experience in itself, with the light and shadow effects, colours and fittings forming an integral part of the expression of the space as a whole. This is where light becomes design! This also applies to the outdoor areas.
