Nursing Uniforms and Dress Code Dress code policy: I. All areas where a uniform is worn:

 

1. Inpatient Adult and Pediatric areas (including Agency/Per Diem/Private duty and Floats) the uniform will include:  Navy blue bottom and white uniform/scrub top   Warm-up jacket navy blue   Pediatric areas only- blue scrub and/or uniform tops with designated print 

 2. Critical care areas: (ICU adult, pediatric and Neonatal; ED; ambulatory surgery; procedural areas) same as Inpatient Adult and Pediatric areas 3. Ambulatory Care: same as Inpatient Adult and Pediatric areas 4. Labor and Delivery: Hospital-provided scrubs 5. All staff will wear solid white or black footwear in good repair. 6. When wearing pants, socks/stockings will be non-patterned and coordinate with the pants. White stockings will be worn with a skirt or dress. 7. All uniform/scrub tops, warm-up jackets and lab coats must have RN embroidered in red 1-inch block letters on the left side. 8. If a tee-shirt is worn under the top, it must be no longer than ¾ sleeve length and in the same color as the top. 9. Exception to the above noted uniform requirements will be in areas where scrubs are provided by the hospital for infection control purposes. In those areas the staff will not wear the scrubs to and from the hospital and will follow infection control policy and where applicable the AORN guidelines.

II. Behavioral Health and all areas where business attire is worn: 1. Employees are expected to dress in a manner that conveys a professional image and inspires confidence in patients and colleagues. 2. Clothes must be suitable for business. Casual attire is not allowed. Not intended as a complete list, the following items are considered inappropriate for work and may not be worn by an employee while on duty: jeans or denim of any color, sweatpants, sweatshirts or hoodies, scrubs, athletic shirts and any other sports wear, tank tops, t-shirts (other than collared tee shirts), halter tops, cropped tops which expose bare midriff, low cut, low back or backless attire, shorts, culottes, Capri pants or stretch pants and or leggings. No hats, caps, bandanas, do-rags. No sleeveless shirts or tops. No sandals open toed shoes, flip-flops, Crocs, stiletto heels or heavy combat boots. Revised 6/2014

3. Clothes must be functional for the job at hand (ex, pockets, ability to allow for visible ID badge). 4. Clothes must be neat, clean, in good repair and appropriate in length (skirts/dresses to the top of the knee or no longer than midcalf) and fit. 5. Footwear must be neat, clean, low heeled and not be an impediment to performing duties. (I.e. must be able to run to another unit in response to an emergency). Sneakers must be solid color, neat, clean and professional in appearance. Socks or stockings must be worn. 6. Lab coats allowed only for medical Nurse Practitioners and the ECT RN. 7. No dress code can cover all contingencies therefore professional nursing staff must exert a certain amount of judgment in their choice of clothing to wear to work. If professional nursing staff experience uncertainty about acceptable, professional business attire for work, the immediate supervisor will provide direction. *More details about the hospital’s Dress Code policy will be provided during your Nursing Orientation.

Full-Time RNs receive ten (10) vouchers annually for uniforms.  Part-Time RNs receive six (6) vouchers annually for uniforms.  Per Diem RNs will be able to purchase their uniforms.  Allocation of vouchers  -

Each top is one voucher.

Each bottom (a choice of pant or skirt) is one voucher.

-

Each dress is equivalent to a top and bottom and counts for 2 vouchers.

A lab coat if part of your dress code counts for 2 vouchers.

Warm-up jackets are part of the uniform program and count for 2 vouchers   Female and male options are available  Special tops are available for Pediatrics RNs. 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORDERING YOUR UNIFORMS                 

Your vouchers will be available from November through November of the following year. Go to the NYP Uniform website at http://nyp.medcouture.com to order your uniforms. Please use this to navigate the system and place your order.  To login to the ordering site, RNs must use their hospital email address as their username and their 6-digit employee ID number as their password. Your employee ID number is on the back of your photo ID badge.  RN must use Internet Explorer v9 or Firefox as their Internet Browser to access the Uniform website.  Each RN can only submit a request for their own purchase, using their individual username and password. Group orders will not be processed.  All orders will be delivered to your home via FedEx. Orders cannot be shipped to the Hospital.  New Hires will be able to order their uniforms at Nursing Orientation, using their Hospital email address as their username and Employee ID as their Password.  Try on sessions are scheduled during each Nursing orientation. Orders should not be placed until garments have been tried on.  Additional garments can be purchased, from (http://nyp@med couture.com) at discounted rates. 

Logging In Enter your email address and password and click the log in button. Email Address: Use your NYP email address as the login name (ex. [email protected]) Password: The password will be your 6 digit NYP employee id unless you have already logged in with that ID and changed it. Once you log into the site, you will have the opportunity to change the password.

If you do not remember your password, click on the “Forgot Password?” link and your password will be emailed to your NYP email address.

User Options The menu in to upper right will give you some extra options.

1. Home – This will take you back to the home page above. 2. Options – will bring down another menu with the following options:

a. Change Password – use this option to change your password (the minimum number of characters is 6)

b. Log Out – Use this to log out of the website. 3. My Orders – You can view your order history and get tracking numbers as well.

Product Lists Choosing any menu option on the left will display a list of items for that category. For example, Women’s tops are listed below. NOTE: Only items approved for your job code will be displayed. So while one user may see lab coats, others will not if their job code does not allow lab coats.

Product Choosing one of the products from the product list will give you the information on a particular garment.

Color If a product has more than one color, choose the color swatch to pick that color by clicking on the color swatch.

Size Select a size to add to your order by clicking on the size button.

Some sizes will also display a date when future product is expected to be received. You may still order product which is not yet in stock. Your order will be put into the system and will ship when the product becomes available.

Add to Cart After choosing the quantity, click the Add to Cart button to add this item to your shopping cart. The item will then be displayed in your cart in the top right.

You may also hover over the cart button to see a summary of the items in your cart.

Checkout Clicking the Shopping Cart button will take you to the checkout page.

The shopping cart page will display a list of the items in your cart.

You can delete items in your cart by clicking the red “X” button or clear all items in your cart by hitting the “Empty Cart” button.

You can update or change any quantities in your cart by typing a new number in the quantity box or by using the up and down arrows and clicking the “update quantities” button once you have adjusted the quantities to save your changes.

Free Uniforms (vouchers) Some individuals will qualify for free uniform sets. A message will be displayed on the shopping cart page that will tell you how many sets you may receive.

The website will automatically apply vouchers as you add items to your cart

Checkout Information Clicking the “Next” button on the right will take you to a page to fill out for addresses and payment options. If you do not have any items in your cart that are to be purchased (i.e. you only have free items in your cart) the Billing and Payment panels will be disabled. You will then only have to fill out the shipping address.

If you forget to fill in any fields, a popup will display the items you should fill in as well as a summary of the necessary items on the right.

Summary Clicking the “Next” button will display a review of the information. You can click the “edit” button to go back to the shopping cart page and billing page to change any information.

If everything looks ok, click the “Finish” button to complete the order. Your order will be entered into the system and you will receive a confirmation email. If you have entered credit card information, your card will be charged at this time also.
