CREATIVE BUSINESS CUP
CREATIVE BUSINESS CUP Creative Business Cup is a global movement supported by investors, media, corporations, policy makers, governments and creative startups from all over the world. Each year in November, Creative Business Cup selects and celebrates the world’s best creative startup at The Global Finals, an event that takes place during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Today, Creative Business Cup is much more than a competition; it is a global, all-year initiative supporting entrepreneurs from the creative industries in developing their business ideas. And, just as importantly, as contributors of creative and innovative solutions in other industries and towards society at large. Thus, this year a new branch within Creative Business Cup – Creative Business Challenges – will make sure to celebrate creative and innovative startups within specific sectors. Each challenge will present startups the opportunity to unravel future global challenges and contribute to solving problems within each specific sector. At the same time, corporations and investors are given the opportunity to access the innovative potential of startups from all over the world. Creative Business Cup is unique and helps entrepreneurs from creative industries grow their businesses globally. Its network and marketplace allow creative entrepreneurs to scale their business concepts, connect with investors and partners and boost their potential. Creative Business Cup empowers entrepreneurs in the creative industries, connects them to investors and global markets and strengthens their innovative capabilities to the benefit of industry and society by:
• Supporting creative startups with business development and international market access • Improved access to finance through investor readiness initiatives • Global networking opportunity between startups, investors, companies and • • • •
governmental entities Capacity building of entrepreneurship organizations Strengthened regional collaboration Offering innovation partnerships and training to businesses Development of global or regional accelerators
Society must constantly find new ways to solve its pressing challenges. And creative entrepreneurs can contribute to innovation and tackling these challenges not only within the creative industry but in all industries across the board. Traditional industries can become more competitive when collaborating with creative companies. Hence, the goal of Creative Business Cup is to bring these entities together and lift the entire ecosystem for creative entrepreneurs.

INTERVIEW
CBC INTERVIEW WITH MARC WORTH Marc Worth, chief executive and founder of Stylus Media Group, was a jury member at Creative Business Cup in 2015 and is sitting on the international jury again this year. HOW DID STYLUS MEDIA GROUP BEGIN? I made my name with Worth Global Style Network (WGSN) – a company that revolutionised trend forecasting for the fashion and retail industries. After selling WGSN in 2005, I spotted a gap in the market for a service that did the same for the interiors industry – an idea that became Stylus Media Group (SMG). Stylus quickly expanded to cover innovation and creativity across the consumer industries – including product design, marketing, hospitality and retail. We now provide our unique cross-industry approach to over 500 global brands through daily reporting, bespoke advisory and bi-annual forums. Along with Stylus Life, a free creative news site that provides a curated look on the latest innovations. WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN CREATIVE BUSINESS CUP? As an entrepreneur myself, I know the importance of creating networks in which start-ups can thrive. Previously a jury member for Creative Business Cup, I am impressed by the great synergies it has with my own work. The creativity and agility of start-ups means they are in a great position to drive revolutionary change. However, to do this they need the right conditions, which means connecting large companies with grass-roots innovation and investing in the businesses of the future. YOU’VE BEEN INVOLVED IN SEVERAL START-UPS. WHAT MAKES A GOOD ENTREPRENEUR? Successful entrepreneurs can come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but they always have a few things in common. They are big thinkers, always dreaming up the next idea, but they also know how to execute these and put them into action. Most importantly, though, is passion – I want to know someone really has belief in their plans and themselves. It’s this essential quality that will turn an idea into a business. AND FINALLY, WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN ASPIRING START-UP? Starting a business is always risky, so you have to know that your idea is a must-have rather than a nice-to-have. Ask yourself: do you have a product looking for a market, or a market looking for your product? 7
