De ar S t . Mic hae l’ s Pa r e nt s a n d Gu a r d ia ns:

In this season of Remembrance, we offer prayers of “Remembrance” for many who have given the priceless cost of their lives that we may live in peace. Let us pray for:

The homeless refugees of the world, especially those displaced by the horrors of war Those who are hungry, unclothed or ill Victims of prejudice and abuse Lead me from death to life, from lies to truth Lead me from despair to hope, from fear to trust Lead me from hatred to love, from war to peace Let peace fill our heart, our world, our universe, Peace, peace, peace, Amen. The next couple of weeks brings to a conclusion our first term. First term Progress Report Cards will be distributed on Friday, Nov. 18th. In addition, Student Led Conferences will occur on Wednesday, Nov. 23rd and Thursday, Nov.24th from 3:45 to 6:45pm. Your child will be leading you through the Conference to showcase some of the work they have been doing. Teachers will also be available to share information or answer any questions on student progress. As St. Michael’s School continues to offer various activities and programs, parents/ guardians are always welcome to participate, volunteer and assist in any of the activities that occur in and out of the classroom. You are, indeed, valued members of our school community and we urge you to continue to be involved in your child’s education.

Dear parents/guardians,

Influenza season will soon be here once again! Did you know that children are one of the most at risk groups for picking up the influenza virus? Influenza is easily spread by coughing, sneezing or direct contact with nasal and throat secretions. You need to protect your child from the influenza virus every year! This vaccine is free and recommended for all ages. The influenza vaccine is the most effective in healthy children and young persons. By immunizing as many children as possible, not only do we protect children themselves, we also create a protective cocoon around our elderly and those with chronic diseases who are equally or more at risk but in whom the vaccine is less effective than in children. Please consult your local paper in October for dates and locations of various flu clinics or visit our website (www.sunrisehealthregion.sk.ca). Help us keep you, your children, and our community healthy. Thank you. Your local Public Health Office

Students will be sharing their achievements during the student led conferences. At this time the student, parent (s) and teacher will meet together to talk about the learning that has taken place during the term. The conference will take 10 minutes. Your son/daughter knows a great deal about their learning and has collected work samples to show you. The number one purpose of the conference is to support the learning of your child by:

Looking at and discussing work. Talking about strengths and areas needing improvement. Setting one or two goals for next term. Discussing ways to meet goals. We are asking that student surnames beginning with A to M try to attend Wednesday, November 23rd. (between 3:45 and 6:45pm) and student surnames from N to Z attend Thursday, November 24th (between 3:45 and 6:45pm) Because students will be leading these conferences, we ask that parents make arrangements so that there will be no extra-curricular activities that conflict with the conference time. If either day does not work, please reschedule directly with your homeroom teacher. Parents and teachers requesting extra time to meet to share or discuss concerns should plan for an alternate meeting time either prior to or after the student led conference.

We look forward to meeting with you and your child!
