XVIIth Congress of the European Society of Cardiology, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 20-24 August 1995 The scientific programme in Amsterdam will include the presentation of important new trials on secondary prevention of coronary artery disease, reperfusion therapy in patients with evolving myocardial infarction, the need for intervention versus medical therapy for post-infarction and many other subjects. Furthermore, the congress will provide an update on rapidly changing areas such as intravascular coronary imaging, magnetic resonance imaging and three-dimensional echocardiography. Management of complex arrhythmias, the newest pacemakers and automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillators will be discussed. The programme of the Amsterdam congress will include the latest developments in experimental cardiology and also provide up-to-date postgraduate education on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Special programmes for nurses and cardiology technicians will be provided. A large exhibition will provide an overview of current equipment for cardiovascular diagnosis and therapy, laboratory investigations and pharmacological therapy. New diagnostic and therapeutic developments will be presented during satellite symposia organized by our partners in industry.

As in previous European congresses, state-of-theart lectures and symposia will be organized by the Working Groups of the ESC and the Executive Scientific Committee. The preliminary programme with registration forms is now available.
