Understanding the Wait List We understand that the wait list can often be confusing and overwhelming. We want to provide as much information and transparency with the process as possible. As always, the team at the North Haven Leasing Office is happy to answer any questions you may have. When can I be added to the wait list?

How is my position on the wait list determined?

As soon as you receive orders to Alaska, we can add you to the wait list with the following documents:

Two important factors determine your position on the wait list:

• PCS Orders

The eligibility date for all inbound Service Members is the date of departure from their last duty station. If an application for housing is not received within 30 days of arrival, the eligibility date will be the date an application is submitted to the leasing office.

• Proof of dependents in the form of a DEERS enrollment, birth and marriage certificates or concurrent travel orders Once you have finalized your travel, a signed leave form must be provided to your leasing agent to update your eligibility date as well as the list of family members with command sponsorship.

1. Eligibility Date

2. Wait List Priority After an eligibility date is established, the next determining factor is priority. Refer to the Wait list Priority Guidelines chart on the right to determine what priority you would be on our wait list.

1

Priority One Key and Essential accompanied or unaccompanied military or civilian personnel assigned or attached for duty at Ft. Greely

Priority Two Accompanied Army military personnel assigned or attached for duty (or those with ISA) at Ft. Greely in addition to single pregnant soldiers.

Understanding the Wait List

Why does my wait list position go up and down?

Why would the estimated wait time I was quoted change?

There are many reasons why your wait list position can change, below are a few reasons:

Waiting time estimates are projections based on what is in our system at the time and they can fluctuate. We base our projections on an average of the last 10 to 15 families offered a home in Priority 2 statuses on each wait list.

• A Soldier was added to the wait list with a higher eligibility date. • A Soldier with a higher priority as determined by the Army’s Wait List Priority was added to the wait list • A Soldier accepted an offer for a home • Someone chose to be removed from the wait list New applications are processed and homes are leased daily, so expect that your wait list number may frequently change.

Outside factors such as construction, deployments, stop loss, and PCS cycles can impact wait time projections, and whenever possible these are taken into account. Wait time estimates begin on a Soldier’s eligibility date and go until the date that the family moves into the home.

Housing Size Qualifications When determining what size home you and your family qualify for, North Haven uses the service members’ rank and the number of command sponsored dependents. As a rule of thumb; The service member and spouse, if applicable, are in one bedroom, and each additional command sponsored dependent will have his/her own bedroom up to four bedrooms. *E5 – O6 will be offered no smaller than a 3 bedroom home if available.

Our Furry Friends Can I bring Fluffy or Fido with me to Alaska and live in on-post housing? The answer is ABSOLUTELY! North Haven is a pet-friendly community and we would love to have you and your pets join us!

In what ways can I travel with my pet and what do I need? Pets arrive daily on airlines, the ferry system and the Alaska Highway. You should have a veterinarian-supplied health certificate (within 30 days of travel) stating that your pet has had its shots; these are needed when entering Canada if you choose to drive. There may be fees associated with traveling regardless of which of these you choose.

Previous Page

How many pets can I have in my on post home?

What are the restricted dog breeds?

You are authorized to have two domesticated animals (dogs and cats). In addition to those you can have fish in a 20 gallon tank or smaller and birds as long as they are not birds of prey.

For the purposes of this policy, aggressive or potentially aggressive breeds of dogs are defined as: • American Pit Bull Terrier • Chow Chow • Presa Canario • Cane Corso • Neapolitan Mastiff • Wolf, Wolf Hybrid • Staffordshire Terrier • American Staffordshire Terrier • Staffordshire Bull Terrier • Rottweiler • Doberman Pinscher

Does North Haven have a pet fee? If so, how much? North Haven requires a $150 nonrefundable pet fee per pet due upon move in or immediately upon acquiring the new pet(s).

Vehicles and Outdoor Equipment When we think about moving, most of us think about packing the things inside the house and often times forget about the things we keep outside and in the garage.  Below are some important tips for preparing and shipping vehicles and outdoor equipment: • Remember to drain the fuel before loading anything gas powered into your shipment. • If you are shipping your vehicle between October and April you must have anti-freeze protection to -60 degrees and should have a strong battery. • It is recommended to outfit your vehicle(s) with an engine block heater, battery blanket, and oil pan warmer; other wise known as winterizing your vehicle. This will keep your car from freezing in our below freezing temperatures.

Traveling Through Canada

Garrison Commander’s Note:  Make sure your PCS orders state that you are authorized to travel the ALCAN and Marine highway if you are going to be using both. If you deviate from your travel plans, you need to have your orders amended to receive travel pay that will adequately cover your mode of travel. Most adult United States citizens will need a current passport to travel through the Canadian/US borders.  Children younger than 16 years old may cross land and sea borders using a US birth certificate.  Minors not accompanied by both parents must carry a notarized letter from their legal guardian and/ or the other parent granting permission to travel into Canada.  All vehicles and travelers may be searched at the discretion of customs officials. Canada has specific instructions for non-residents who wish to transport firearms into/through Canada. To learn more about Canada’s gun control laws, click on the link below.

Getting Back to School

North Haven understands that PCSing to a brand new installation in and of itself can be a challenge for any family.  When you have to locate reliable childcare, programs, and information on school this can be even harder. Families living on-post at Ft. Greely are served by the Delta/Greely school district.  New students need to enroll at the school they will be attending.

student’s transcript or report card to help with class placement. Also, proof of residency (residential lease, utility bill such as phone, water, electric, etc.) is required at the time of registration.  School generally starts the third week in August and ends the third week in May. The first semester ends before the two-week winter break and there is a one week spring break in March.

Open Enrollment is usually one week prior to the first day of class. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is required for all pupils entering kindergarten and for first graders who haven’t been enrolled in the district before. All new students must submit proof of immunization before being admitted. Please bring a copy of the

Donnelly’s Dome

Climb the popular Donnelly’s Dome! Take a drive south on the Richardson Highway about 23 miles from Delta to get in the vicinity of Donnelly Dome. It’s a popular climbing adventure - the top is about 2,400 feet above actual ground level. Though steep, the hike is not difficult. Take your time, enjoy the view and don’t forget you binoculars. You should take a windproof jacket and perhaps a sweater, depending on the day, as it is often quite cold and windy toward the top. Allow half a day for this trip.
