The Nissan JUKE features Nissan’s 1.6l Direct Injection Gasoline Turbo engine (DIG Turbo). The DIG Turbo system delivers high charging combustion efficiency, while Twin V VTC (Variable Valve Timing Control) provides high power and precise torque, even from low engine speeds. 6-speed manual transmission brings the turbocharger to life and allows for precise gear ratio settings and silky smooth shifting. The HR16DE engine with XTRONIC CVT delivers soul-stirring acceleration. There’s nothing like the pleasure of pumping the gas pedal and feeling the wheels respond to a burst of torque. That’s what you get when you combine Twin V VTC with the HR16DE engine. What’s more, by using dual injectors (two injectors per cylinder), the engine demonstrates stable combustion, taking the Nissan JUKE well beyond the realm of compact cars. Moreover, new-XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) adds a twospeed sub-gearbox to the conventional belt-driven CVT. More compact and lightweight, it greatly reduces friction and provides dramatically improved response when starting off and accelerating, resulting in a broader range of gear ratios for excellent fuel economy.

NEW GENERATION 1.5 dCi ENGINE More TORQUE, IMPROVED fuel efficiency reduced emissions A new generation version of the award-winning direct injection EURO 5 K9K diesel engine, makes the Nissan JUKE more efficient, more refined and even greater fun to drive. Through constant development and refinement now in its 6th generation, the 1.5ℓ common rail turbo charged diesel engine produces an adrenalin pumping 260Nm torque, 80% of which is available from as low as 1,500rpm, improved driveability and excellent responsiveness in all conditions.

Powered by 50ppm or low-sulphur diesel, the new Nissan JUKE 1.5 dCi has maximised the latest advances in diesel engine technology to significantly reduce fuel consumption, carbon emissions and NVH levels.
A change in the gear ratios in the 6-speed manual gearbox ensures a more responsive yet economical drive, with the 1st- and 2nd-gear ratios shortened to allow for sharper response at low speeds. The remaining four ratios have been lengthened to allow for better fuel economy and driveability thanks to increased torque.
With an average fuel consumption figure of 4.2ℓ/100 km - combined cycle (ECE Regulation R101 tested), carbon emissions are only 109 g/km. Fuel efficiency features include Nissan’s automatic Idle/Stop/Start technology, with highly efficient smart management system that ensures a quick restart procedure – the engine fires up again within 0.5 seconds of the clutch being engaged, realising improved fuel economy.
Economy is further improved thanks to revised piezo-electric fuel injection nozzles – which reduce unburnt fuel after the combustion process by as much as 15% due to a more precise spray pattern for better combustion – and the adoption of a low-inertia, variable geometry turbocharger, which makes use of a more direct and efficient air intake flow path. A new closed-loop, low-pressure Exhaust Gas Recycling system (EGR) is also a major contributor to the improved emissions and economy, by reintroducing cooled exhaust gases to the intake system to capitalise on unburnt fuel.
Another improvement is the new oil pump which uses a thermostatically controlled variable-displacement system that reduces internal friction by adapting to the engine’s needs and the oil’s viscosity automatically. Low friction enhancements to improve operating efficiency are also provided by DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coated tappets, inspired by Formula 1 technology. With the new Nissan JUKE, you just can’t resist pushing the limits: more power, more torque, more fuel efficiency and addictive adrenalin rushing excitement. Nissan’s development and refinement of internal combustions engines is ongoing in the quest for maximum fuel efficiency and minimum emissions. Nissan’s “Clean Diesel” system was also the first engine to pass strict new Japanese fuel emission regulations.
Nissan is already taking the lead in the development and manufacture of zero emission vehicles such as the Nissan LEAF. But when it comes to internal combustion engines, Nissan believes there remains vast scope across a combination of technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions – hence the PURE DRIVE undertaking from Nissan.

But engines aren’t the whole story. Additional technologies developed by Nissan combine to create a package that is the leading the way in energy efficiency.
This, then, is Nissan’s goal with PURE DRIVE: to continue developing and refining technologies to create environmentally responsible solutions, and ultimately achieve a zero emission future.
Nissan’s “Idle/Stop/Start System”, where the engine is stopped while the vehicle is at a standstill, does away with wasteful idling. The XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) has fewer moving parts which reduces friction and allows for an increased range of gear ratios, resulting in smoother acceleration and improved fuel economy. Additional technologies to help the driver achieve more economical driving are being developed, such as ECO mode.
