Applications Power stations generate electrical power, with voltages up to 500,000V, which is transmitted to transformer stations and dispersion stations. These substations distribute medium voltage above 1kV to 36kV and it is here that a number of NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear cubicles can be used. A medium-voltage grid starts from every substation and supplies a large area with medium-voltage. Wherever medium-voltage enters residential areas, industrial production companies, mining sites, data centres, rail, hospitals and more, there is a medium voltage cubicle fulfilling four essential functions.
1. POWER SUPPLY: the network distributor’s grid is branched off to allow switching 2. SECURITY: the installation is secured with a load break switch with HRC fuses, or by a load break switch with a safety relay 3. MEASUREMENT: the energy consumption is measured on the high-voltage, or low-voltage side 4. TRANSFORMATION: medium-voltage is transformed into low-voltage (1,000V-400V-230V)

NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear OVERVIEW DESIGN PHILOSOPHY AND APPLICATIONS User-friendliness, safety and care for the environment were the main motivators in the selection of NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear. NHP can provide “made-to-measure” solutions for all your medium-voltage needs. NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear offers a wide range of applications that can be used worldwide in many industries. Cubicles can be used with distribution and dispersion switchgear, electrical sub-stations and medium-voltage engines, wind generators, cogeneration, and much more. The NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear range provides a solution for all your needs and demands as it can replace obsolete installations, extend existing installations, and it is also perfectly suited for brand new installations.
The NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear cubicles are a modular concept based on the “building blocks” principle, which means that cubicles are produced in series. As a result these products meet the highest technical standards in a rational and economically sound way. The combination of cubicles is unlimited. Very complex diagrams of distribution and transformer switchgear can be compiled through this extensive spectrum of possibilities. Cubicles contain standard functional interlocks which allows for effortless application and installation in most consumer work spaces. As a result, capacity loss will be minimal. Additionally, the cubicles have been fitted with a system for pressure release which shields the user from the consequences of an internal arc.
7
INTERNAL ARC MITIGATION
OPTION WITH BUILT-IN ARC-KILLER
A short-circuit or another malfunction can create an internal arc. An internal arc in a Medium Voltage cubicle could severely damage the installation and possibly injure the operator.
Protect your cubicles, infrastructure and your staff against the consequences of an internal arc. The built-in Arc-Killer extinguishes an arc in less than 50ms.
NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear cubicles are designed to mitigate the creation of internal arcs and therefore protect both the operator and the installation. Through a strategic pressure release system, the internal arc is restricted to the compartment where it originated and it does not spread towards the operator or to other compartments. The cubicles are specifically designed to minimize the consequences of an internal arc. All provided cubicles are fitted on the rear side with overpressure valves pointing downward as a standard. NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear cubicles have been tested with these specifications at independent, and accredited testing solutions (for example: IPH, Kema). The load break switches have been tested according to IEC standards and consequently, all NHP Medium Voltage cubicles are internal arc resistant.
Without Arc-Killer
The NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear range includes the Arc-Killer SV-25 and SV-53, a system for detecting and extinguishing an internal arc. The Arc-Killer extinguishes the arc by directing it to a metal earthed short circuit. The arc is extinguished in less than 50ms. Our modules are metal enclosed cubicles combined with a shaft at the rear end. The shaft absorbs any gasses (in case of an internal arc) that escape through the overpressure valves. As a result, the expansion of hot gasses in a room can be reduced to an absolute minimum. NHP Medium Voltage Switchgear cubicles offer protection against an internal arc classification IAC category B, FLR 20 kA 1 s. (F=frontal, L=lateral, R=rear). As a result, the operator is protected against the consequences of an arc whether they stand in front of the switchboard, next to it or behind it.
With Arc-Killer
The patented SV-25 and SV-53 Arc-Killer takes safety to a new level. Not just the operator and the environment are shielded from harm, but the super-swift arc extinguishing system allows cubicles to be back in operation very quickly in case of an internal fault. What’s more, the Arc-Killer’s improved security features place less strict demands on the installation room. As such, the Arc-Killer couples security and operational safety with flexible room demands.

DF-2 AIR INSULATED SWITCHGEAR (AIS) WITH VISUAL EARTHING DF-2
A MODULAR CONCEPT COMBINING ALL MEDIUMVOLTAGE FUNCTIONS. DF-2’s modular design allows you to create rational, economical and custom-made combinations of mediumvoltage cubicles with a rated voltage of up to 24kV.
9
DF-2 COMPARTMENTS SWITCHGEAR COMPARTMENT In this compartment, the gas filled (RV44) load break switch is double sealed, which acts as the physical separation between the busbar set and the cable compartment. The switch has two functions: it connects or interrupts the electrical current between the high voltage cables and the busbar. BUSBAR COMPARTMENT The busbar compartment is located in the upper part of the cubicle and behind the low-voltage compartment. The modular busbar set is manufactured from specially provided electrolyte F25 copper of 60 x 10mm with n = 5mm (800A). Standard as well as 1250A option is available. Several cubicles are connected through the bar set compartments. Hexagonal bolts connect the busbars to the upper contact surfaces of the RV44 load break switch.
CABLE COMPARTMENT The cable compartment is located behind the interlocked, removable door of the DF-2 cubicle. This part of the field receives the cable(s) and contains the necessary equipment to connect the cable(s). The earthing switch is installed below the load break switch on the right side, ensuring a “visible earthing” when the earthing switch is closed. In a DF-A cubicle, the cables are connected to the contact points below the RV 44 load break switch. The cables of the DF-P cubicles are connected to the lower fuse base side. This type of cubicle also has an additional auxiliary earthing switch to divert any residual current. DF-D type cubicle have the earthing switches located in the cable compartment below. The removable door, the sectional floor panels which house the necessary conductive rubber for the cables, and the cable supports all simplify the cable connection.

BUSBAR COMPARTMENT
SWITCHGEAR COMPARTMENT
LOW-VOLTAGE COMPARTMENT The drive mechanism that controls the RV44 load break switch and the earthing switch EM20 is fitted with the synoptic diagram and is located behind the front panel. Several accessories, such as the auxiliary contacts, switch-on or switch-off coils, and minimum voltage relays are also located in this compartment. Any control with the necessary electrical switchgear, a control and clamp strip are also installed in this compartment. The compartment is easily accessible by removing the front panel.

DR-6/DT-6 RING MAIN UNITS (RMUs) DR-6/DT-6

DR-6/DT-6 DEVELOPMENT & MANUFACTURING PHILOSOPHY The DR-6/DT-6 range offers a compact, safe, reliable and economical design which is free of any possible environmental aggression. Extensions on site is possible without any special tooling nor particular surrounding conditions. THE COMPONENTS
Load break switch The three position load break switch (ON/OFF/Earth) is in accordance with the IEC requirements. The concept insures a natural interlock of the primary functions of the cubicle. The arc extinction is insured by gas, which reduces arcing time. The load break switch RV44 of the DF-2 range is of the class E3/M1 (100 CO and 1000 mechanical operations) following IEC 62271-103 and is therefore a perfect application.
Circuit breaker The SGC ISM-086 vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) of the magnetic actuator type uses the latest vacuum interrupter technology. The VCB can only be closed electrically and therefore mechanical closing is not possible*. The VCB can be opened only electrically. The circuit breaker operates through a control module and a self powered digital protection relay RP600, this together with the three CT’s allows the detection of over-current and earth faults failures. (*) In absence of auxiliary voltage, a hand operated generator can be used.
The fuse holders The fuse holders are made for HRC fuses of the DIN and UTE type for voltages of 12, 12 (Utilities Specification) and 24kV. A simple intelligent artifice allows the change without any particular tooling. Fuse holders are made from epoxy with a non-losable cover, and a fuse supporting structure firmly fixed to the cover. Earthing on both sides of the fuses is clearly marked on the synoptic diagram. The fuse holder is water tight and tested in accordance with the IEC standards. Access to the fuse holders is facilitated by a simple and logic interlock system allowing the opening of the door only after earthing of the cubicle. The mechanical drives Deba Components mechanical drives have already been subject to intensive tests and usage in the DF-2 range of products. The same design has been implemented in the DR-6/DT-6. The steel used for the drives has been chosen because of their high tensile force, toughness and resistance to bending. The mechanical drive accommodates both the operates axles (LBS and earth) and the interlocks. The spring type drive operates independently of the operator and does not allow any function violation. The switch position indicator shows at any time the real status of the switch. The forces needed to control the mechanism are low which results in a high user-friendliness. The drive can be motorized and can receive a number of options and allows remote control, remote position indication and integration into a SCADA operated network.
30
DR-6/DT-6 Cable connection The cables are connected to the cubicles by means of bushings with M16 screwed contacts and for connectors according to EN 50 181 / DIN 50 standards. They may be of the type A/B or C (200, 400 630A) and they are defined in function of their applications. The cable compartment size allows one connector per bushing with a maximum of 400mm2 per cable (on request, lightning arrestors can also be accommodated in the cable box as well as two cables per bushing). The extensibility concept Extensibility of the ring main unit is ensured by top placed bushings of the C- type. An insulated and screened extension device connects the two sets to be extended. Extension requires no special tooling nor special on site condition. The bushings are directly moulded on a stainless steel plate avoiding any risk of leakage caused by mechanical assembly.
The synoptic diagram and the accessories A clear, logic and well understandable synoptic diagram is placed in front of each of the functions. This diagram also supports the voltage indicator of the type HR-3, showing the presence of the voltage on the cables and allowing the use of phase concordance units. Short circuit indicators can find their place in the LV compartment and the associated ring type CT’s in the cable box. Complementary accessories can be accommodated in a well designed LV box to be placed on the top of the concerned function(s).

The enclosure The stainless steel enclosure is manufactured on brand new, up to date machines associating laser cutting, robotised bending and 3-D laser welding. The welded tank is sealed for life and tested under vacuum, in strict conditions with experienced equipment. The enclosure accommodates the life components and is foreseen of a rupture disk avoiding any problem in the improbable case of an internal overpressure.

DW-2 WITHDRAWABLE SWITCHGEAR DW-2
A family of air-insulated fully withdrawable medium voltage switchgear solutions for indoor installations. DW-2’s modular design allows you to create rational, economical and custom-made combinations of medium voltage cubicles (up to 12kV).
34
DW-2 Type tests DW-2 switchgear solutions are all fully type tested according to IEC 62271-200: • • • • • • •
Short time and peak withstand current Temperature rise and main circuit impedance Dielectric test on main and auxiliary circuits Making and breaking capacity of the circuit breaker within the panel Earthing switch making capacity Mechanical operations Internal arc fault (IAC classified: AFLR, 31.5A/1s)
Availability and partition DW-2 switchgears are designed in compliance to availability classes LSC2B and partition class PM according to IEC 62271-200. The switchgear compartments do not need any tools for opening. Interlocks allow access only when the corresponding high voltage parts are dead and earthed. Metallic shutters and partitions segregate the compartments from each other. When a compartment is opened all other panels in the installation and all cable termination compartments (including that in the panel concerned) remain in operation.
Internal arc fault test, 31.5kA/1s 35
DW-2 COMPARTMENTS
36
LOW-VOLTAGE COMPARTMENT The protection relays that controls the circuit breaker and accessories, such as the auxiliary contacts, and minimum voltage relays, are also located in this compartment. The compartment can be accessed very easily by opening the compartment door.
LOW-VOLTAGE COMPARTMENT
BUSBAR COMPARTMENT
SWITCHGEAR COMPARTMENT
BUSBAR COMPARTMENT The busbar compartment is located in the back side of the cubicle and behind the low-voltage compartment. The modular busbar set is manufactured from specially provided electrolyte F25 copper. Several cubicles are connected through the bar set compartments. Hexagonal bolts connect the busbars to the upper contact surfaces of the fixed contacts in the insulators.
CABLE COMPARTMENT The cable compartment is located behind the interlocked, removable door of the DW-2 cubicle. This part accepts the cable(s) and contains the necessary equipment to connect the cable(s). The earthing switch is installed below the circuit breaker switch on the back side, ensuring a “visible earthing” when the earthing switch is closed. The door and the sectional floor panels, which house the necessary conductive rubber for the cables, and the cable supports, all simplify the cable connection.
CABLE COMPARTMENT
SWITCHGEAR COMPARTMENT In this compartment, the withdrawable magnetic driven vacuum circuit breaker switch, acts as the physical separation between the busbar set and the cable compartment. The switch has two functions: it connects or interrupts the electrical current between the high voltage cables and the busbar.

LOW-VOLTAGE COMPARTMENT The drive mechanism that controls the RV53 load break switch and the integrated earthing switch is fitted with the synoptic diagram and is located behind the front panel. Several accessories such as the auxiliary contacts, switch-on or switch-off coils, and minimum voltage relays, are also located in this compartment. An optional motorized drive mechanism with all the necessary control elements could also be installed in this compartment. The compartment can be accessed very easily by disassembling the front panel. Optional padlocks prevent unauthorised access.
LOW-VOLTAGE COMPARTMENT
BUSBAR COMPARTMENT
SWITCHGEAR COMPARTMENT
BUSBAR COMPARTMENT The busbar compartment is located in the upper part of the cubicle and behind the low-voltage compartment. The modular busbar set is manufactured from specially provided electrolyte F25 copper Ø27mm (IrBB=630A). Various cubicles are connected through busbar compartments. Hexagonal bolts connect the busbars to the upper contact surfaces of the RV53 load break switch.
CABLE COMPARTMENT The cable compartment is located behind the interlocked, removable door of the DF-3 cubicle. This part of the cubicle accommodates the cable(s) and contains the necessary equipment to connect the cable(s). In a DF-A cubicle, the cables are connected to the contact points below the RV53 load break switch. The cables of the DF-P cubicles are connected to the lower fuse base side. This type of cubicle also has an additional auxiliary earthing switch to divert any residual current. DF-D types have the earthing located in the cable compartment below the circuit breaker. The removable door, the sectional floor panels, which house the necessary conductive rubber for the cables, and the cable supports, all simplify the cable connection.
CABLE COMPARTMENT
SWITCHGEAR COMPARTMENT In this compartment, the gas filled RV53 three position load break switch acts as the physical separation between the busbar set and the cable compartment. The switch has three functions: it connects or interrupts the electrical current between the high voltage cables and the busbar. Additionally, the earthing switch is integrated.
