Product Description With the help of the S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) of NFT Automatisierungsysteme GmbH (NFT) you can connect your DALI bus via a communication processor (CP) to the S7 range of controllers (S7 1200, 300 and 400 series respectively, and the ET200S IM CPU). The block library belonging to the NFT S7 - DALI-Gateway (RS232) contains sample projects as well as a communication- and a standard function block to control up to 64 DALI subscribers. The NFT S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) supports DIN EN 60929 and thus, it can communicate with up to 64 subscribers at one bus. In this way, it is not only limited to switching lamps, but it is also in a position to fetch information and can, in fact, input settings for the ballast units connected. The associated DALI standard provides more detailed information on these properties. The NFT S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) communicates with the PLC via the standard RS-232 interface, and it can be executed in the PLC with the help of normal programming. For this purpose, NFT provides relevant blocks for configuration and communication for the controllers specified above. Moreover, multiple NFT S7 - DALI Gateways (RS232) can be addressed with one controller. Each NFT S7 - DALI Gateway must be connected with one CP. In this way, the number of DALI Gateways to be controlled is limited to the maximum number of CPs to be administered. This number is three for the S7-1200, for example. Thus, a maximum of 192 lamps can be distributed over 3 bus systems with an S7-1200. The S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) of NFT can be located in a control cabinet and mounted on DIN rails right next to the PLC, or it can be installed in a separate sub-distribution box at a distance of up to 800 m (based on the RS-232 specification). The power supply can be ensured by tapping it from the PLC or by providing a separate 24V DC power supply source.

Proper use The NFT S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) is designed for universal control and instrumentation applications. It should not be used for life-sustaining, self-monitoring or safety-critical areas of application.

Safety Instructions The NFT S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) should be connected and commissioned by qualified personnel only. Prior to doing any work, it must be ensured that the S7-DALI Gateway is electrically deenergized. Short-circuits may cause cable fires, explosions and serious burns!

Functional Description In the PLC, 3 data bytes are sent to the S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) per RS-232 link by a function block. This data is converted by the intelligence provided in the NFT S7 - DALI Gateway and documented in a protocol compatible with the standard. This protocol is processed by the ballast that responds to it. This response is accepted by the NFT S7 -DALI Gateway and converted to the RS-232 protocol. Then, it is evaluated in the function block of the PLC and represented in 2 data bytes.

Commissioning The following must be carried out / followed for commissioning: 1. Mounting the NFT S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232). 2. Installing the NFT S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) according to the connection plan. (Power, Dali and RS-232). You can order the RS-232 adapter cable separately from NFT. 3. Setting the S7 CPs according to NFT specifications (refer to the sample project). 4. Creating and transferring the PLC program with the blocks provided by NFT for communication.

Electrical Connection The S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232) has three plug-in connectors with the designations X1, X2, and X3. The two-pin plug-in connector X1 is used to provide power supply to the S7 - DALI Gateway (RS232). The S7 - DALI bus is connected to the two-pin plug-in connector X2. The interface to the PLC (RS-232 interface) is implemented via the five-pin plug-in connector X3. 4
