RGCC Corvette Used in TODAY Show Film Shoot The old Santa Fe Trail, better known as the famous Route 66, cuts through the middle of New Mexico, offering travelers a diverse mix of the old and new. TODAY’s Amy Robach hit the road on May 13th in a RGCC Corvette to see if she can get, as the song says, her “kicks on Route 66.”

RGCC member Janice Pomeroy spent the day with Weekend TODAY Show Anchor Amy Robach, her film crew and Deane’s 2003 Corvette filming for a TODAY Show Hits the Road segment on Route 66 that aired May 22. The file crew gave Janice a video camera to film Amy from the passenger seat while they drove from Old Town up to Nob Hill. While at a stop light, two teenage boys in an old Chevy Camaro wanted to race. Two full days of filming was edited down to a four minute segment. The good news is that the Vette made it on the screen for more than a few seconds. The video can be viewed at http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/37289999#37289999.

RGCC Meeting Minutes May 13th, 2010

Meeting Preparation Activities: Buck-in-a-Box Ticket Sales: Jerry Ihriskey

The May 2010 meeting of the Rio Grande Corvette Club was called to order at 6:33 p.m. by Jerry Ihriskey, President. Guests: Don Balestrieri Mike Boushey – Galles Restoration and Collision Facility Steve Esueda – Galles Restoration and Collision Facility

Mike Boushey and Steve Esueda from Galles’ new Restoration and Collision Facility spoke about some of the capabilities of the new facility, and their desire to support the Rio Grande Corvette Club. They noted that they could provide door prizes or possibly raffle prizes that could be used for the Make-AWish show or other club events.

Some questions were raised by club members regarding some of the services offered by Galles Restoration and Collision Facility, including: • What do you mean when you say you do “restorations?” o Not Pebble Beach Concourse d Elegance levels of restoration, but more along the lines of resto-rod, but can do anything up to nearly concourse d elegance levels. • What is being worked on at the moment? o Several projects, but of interest to the RGCC would be the 1973 Corvette that is being restored. • What is the process for keeping a restoration from becoming a money-pit? o Before the work is even begun, the customer and Galles must come to an agreement upon the level of restoration and price. No surprises. • And yes, they can do “trick” paint if requested. page 3

Don Balestrieri introduced himself, noting that he has a 1982 Collector’s Edition Corvette.

Treasurer’s Report: Steve Forcier, Treasurer, presented the Treasurer’s Report which was accepted unanimously.

NCCC Governor’s Report: Jack Richards, the RGCC NCCC Governor, announced that the RGCC is officially an NCCC Club. Based on the discussion it would appear that perhaps Jack was the last one to know since everyone else received their membership packets that day or the day before. Jack has the complete list of official NCCC members of the RGCC and their membership numbers, in case anyone needs the reference.

For future new members, we will collect their NCCC registration application and fee, but hold actual registration until the September renewal of the RGCC membership.

Jack attended an autocross in Taylor, AZ the previous week. There will probably be another September 18 and 19. It is about a four hour drive from Albuquerque. Registration for the autocross is approximately $90/driver and hotel rooms are available for about $50/night. As an NCCC club we get seven sanctioned event points. The Arizona Competition Corvettes group has asked for two of our event points for one of their events. Granting the points was unanimously approved. We are now listed as the sanctioning club for two LS Autocross events on 9/18/2010 at Taylor, AZ.

Jack requested a copy of the 2010 flyer for the RGCC Make-A-Wish Benefit Classic Car Show to start the insurance process. Mike Robertson will provide a copy to Jack, as well as getting the new NCCC membership form scanned and on the web. CU Auto Sales will be an “also insured” for the event. NCCC Logos – Logos should be downloaded from the NCCC site and added to event flyers, website, stationary, etc.

Old Business: New By-laws – A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved to accept the new by-laws as proposed.

Standing Rules – Pat Salerno thanked Janice Pomeroy for all her work and assistance in putting together the first draft of the RGCC Standing Rules. Pat will provide a copy of the proposed standing rules to Mike Robertson for distribution to the club members so that they can be reviewed and any necessary corrections identified. 2010 Rio Grande Corvette Club Make-A-Wish Benefit Classic Car Show – Pat Salerno will probably start asking for volunteers for the show at the June RGCC meeting. Two of the most difficult activities to be addressed are publicity and porta-potties. page 4

New Business: NBC Today Show – on May 22nd Janice Pomeroy will be on the NBC Today Show with Deane and Janice’s C5 Corvette for a segment on Route 66. Janice will provide an article and links for the June newsletter and the web site.

Jemez Springs and Gilman Tunnels – Robin and Ron Eschinger reported on the April Gathering of Corvettes Event which was a drive to Jemez Springs and the Gilman Tunnels, followed with a stop at the Eschinger’s home for refreshments. The trip was great and they will send photos for the newsletter and web site. May Gathering of Corvettes – A reminder that the May Gathering of Corvettes will be a multi-club event sponsored and hosted by Cindy and Phil Newman. Rio Grande Corvette Club will join with New Mexico Corvette Association and the Alfa Romeo Club for a wine tasting tour followed by a barbecue on May 22nd.

Buck-in-a-Box – Buck-in-a-Box was won by Janice Pomeroy, who noted that she now had enough for dinner, but she wasn’t sure what Deane was going to do for his. Meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.

RGCC’s History June 1991 – Nineteen Years Ago This Month MINUTES OF MEETING MAY 12, 1991 Meeting called to order at 12:34 P.M. Al reported that incorporation for the club had been finalized. A new checking account had been set up for the club. Discussion on upcoming CAR SHOWS and Flea market, also discussion on proposed Chevy Performance Car Show in July to be sponsored jointly (Galles and R.G.C.C.). Door prizes: Judy Vigil won a Galles/Krako coffee mug, Tom Trujillo won a Al Unser T-Shirt, Oil change from Valvoline was won by Jim Zinn. Meeting adjourned at 1:17 P.M. with 21 members in attendance Respectfully Submitted by RONNIE BLACKSHER for Wanda Zamora Editor: Rumor has it that in spite of the free Valvoline oil change, Jim’s car still overheated! FROM THE V.P. Car Shows, Car Shows, and more Car Shows! Since last Month the club has been in THE MUSEUM SHOW, THE MIDNIGHT RODEO SHOW, and when you read this we will have participated in the ALL CHEVY SHOW at ED BLACKS. (Hope we have a good turn out) Shows are a lot of fun and we talk to a lot of people/prospective members. Our club is the most active in the Albuq. area. I have been told by members of other clubs (several times) that they wished their clubs had as much participation and fun as ours! ! ! ! SPEAKS WELL OF THE CLUB DOESN’T IT . . . . . . . . . . . . Let’s keep it up! SEE YA . . “RONNIE RED VETTE” Ronnie Blacksher Editor: Seems that “Ronnie Red Vette” had a predisposition to capital letters. One has to wonder if he spoke in capital letters also.

For Sale or Wanted Still nothing? Are you sure? Somebody better check Paula’s garage and see if she has started collecting parts to build her own Vette. By the way Paula, the T-tops from a C3 won’t fit in the C5 roof.
