Newsletter First Quarter 2014 Dear customers and friends of DEGERenergie, Today you receive our first newsletter in 2014 with some exciting stories from all over the world and latest technical information.

Deger products used worldwide in education and research institutions Not only due to the world-renowned Fraunhofer ISE study about which we reported in the last issue of our newsletter DEGERtrackers are an important instrument for teaching and research in many countries. Please find some exciting education and research projects below.

The Turkish PV pioneer TEKNOLOGIS, together with his EPC partner Halk Enerji installed one of our 9000NT trackers at the Gazi University of Ankara. We are very proud to be part of this exciting partnership between TEKNOLOGIS and the renowned Gazi University. This project will show all graduates of Gazi University the energy source of the future and maybe the one or other will be motivated to start a research project in the sector of renewable energy.

A DEGERtracker D100 of our latest generation has been shipped a few days ago to Malaysia for studies at the Solar Energy Research Institute at the National University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur (SERI). Senior Research Fellow Ar. Lim Chin Haw and his delegation visited our German headquarters in December 2013 and assured themselves of our unrivaled technology.

Special appreciation has to be sent to CSEM-uae, an independent, non-profit Swiss/UAE joint venture for applied research in Ras Al Khaimah in the Emirates. The CSEM-uae has selected back in 2009 DEGERenergie for a reseach study regarding the overall effectiveness of diverse Photovoltaic technologies in hot and dusty environments. The CSE-uae is utilizing variuos single-axis and dual-axis DEGERtrackers for this research study, which you can see on the picture above.

With its Maximum Light Detection (MLD), which is held in high esteem in Canada, DEGERenergie also supports Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta with a DEGERtracker 5000HD (above). The college is integrated in a net-zero research and study program of the NSERC, the Natural Siences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Lakeland College is evaluating the efficiency gains from trackers compared to a fixed mount rack at a Northern latitude with cold winter climate conditions. A for us at DEGERenergie thrilling story was that our DEGERtrackers have been utilized for final exams' in physics at a French high school. DEGERenergie wishes all graduates a fantastic start for further education and professional training. The extremely good reputation of DEGERenergie was also the reason for the Desert Knowledge Solar Centre of the Australian Government in Alice Springs to select several DEGERtrackers for educational matters in the field of renewable energy.

Solarex 2014 Istanbul - DEGERtrackers first choice in Turkey since 2010

Once again DEGERenergie will exhibit the latest and most advanced tracking systems at the Solarex exhibition in Istanbul and underlines its commitment to the region. The growing Turkish renewable energy market is a highly attractive location for solar projects for its long sun exposure periods during the year. The Turkish electricity demand is growing at an annual rate of almost 8 percent and currently the country is highly dependent on fossil-based imports to meet its increasing energy needs. We can mention that renewable energy, particularly solar, has much more significance than simply an energy source, mostly it equals to energy independence in Turkey. The Solarex starts April, 10th and ends April 12th 2014. Did you know that DEGERtrackers have been utilized for the first solar tracking project in Turkey? Well, Merk Solar Enerji decided to develop a 17 kWp off-grid water pump project in Meseler near Ankara with our unique MLD technology in 2010. Due to the energy demand of the water pump project Merk Solar Enerji installed our single-axis DEGERtracker 40NT. See picture below.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Istanbul!

New North American HQ in Linwood Ontario Our new Ontario HQ is getting closer to be fully operational. The HQ is located in Linwood Ontario. Also we are pleased to introduce to you our new staff member Kris Mitchell. Kris will be responsible for Logistics & Administration. Also he will support our customers in technical questions. In the medium term we will hire additional service technicians to serve your needs better than any aother solar tracker manufacturer in the market! With the new HQ and our Ontario DEGERenergie team we will:   

Accelerate the processing times regarding warranty claims Reduce system downtime Provide faster shipping responses

And ultimately increase customer satisfaction! Now you will be able to purchase genuine DEGERenergie spare parts directly at the shop, soon also with credit card payment.

Research and Development: Investment in the future

In our latest generation of dual-axis tracking systems we have implemented many innovative concepts which make DEGER tracking systems more distinctive in the market. Among other new developments like the completely closed elevation motor you benefit from the all new rotating head geometry, which is unique to the market and which equilibrates forces and relieves bearings, motors and gears to increase the durability of the overall system significantly. Extremely simplified electrical installation Plug & Play installation: The DEGERtracker will be delivered with prefabricated wiring. This reduces installation time and costs, as well as installation related errors. All prefabricated cables will be routed through the mast. The rotating head is preassembled and provides cable fittings for DC-wiring and communication lines, which can be used if needed. Higher Yield in addition to the conclusion of the Fraunhofer study with our 9000NT. Due to the larger elevation angle ranging from 10 to 90 degrees, the new Energy Converter (EC-6) and the newly programmed MLD-sensor, higher yields are achieved with the new models from sunrise to sunset. Evidently high load ability The design with its Finite Elements Method (FEM) as well as numerical oscillation and fatigue analyses from reputed testing laboratories provide evidence for the high load ability of the new system generation. Design optimizations based on wind tunnel examinations as well as the consideration of other influencing factors enable a load ability far beyond the load limits. More detailed information about these and other new features and installation hints can be provided on request. The systems 5000HD, 6000NT and 9000NT will be replaced by the systems D60H, D80 and D100. Further improved quality and even further increased yields. This our contribution for the future of PV tracking systems.
