News from the Rector 1 Peter 2:9-10 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. When you read this passage what caught your interest? For many it is the portion of the verse stating we are a royal priesthood, God’s own people.
It is a great verse to hold onto and one of assurance as to who we are in Christ. Unfortunately many focus just on the royal priesthood part of verse without what it means to be a part of the His family. When we look closer there we see that as part of God’s royal priesthood He has entrusted us with a great responsibility. We became a part of His Holy Priesthood through His mercy. It was through God’s mercy, not justice, that He brings us into His family. Without His mercy and grace we would still in and of the world.
The Deacon’s Desk Greetings to you all in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ: Our Tuesday night bible study has been focusing on Jim Cymbala’s book Spirit Rising. As we read about the Holy Spirit, we are invigorated and enlightened by His power. There is a mention in the book
Without receiving His mercy we would not be reconciled to Him. Being part of the royal priesthood means that we are to proclaim His mighty works and what He has done for us. I often think of actors and how they are cast to play different roles in movies and television shows. That is why they call it acting. However being part of God’s royal priesthood is not about acting, it is about being His servant and going out to proclaim the truth of His grace, His love, and His mercy to the world. Fr. Dave+

that says the Holy Spirit is not often thought about throughout the year with the exception of one or two weeks during Pentecost. This concerned me because I had not considered this. But what about the Holy Spirit? Why isn’t there
much talk or study about the Holy Spirit? In the first chapter of the Book of Acts, after Jesus’ resurrection (but before His Ascension) Luke records:

Because we are only publishing the newsletter every two months this financial report is current through the month of May. It is the same financial report received by the vestry. To meet our current budget we need our tithes and offerings to amount to $3,900 per week. This does not include the additional income we may receive from other sources. The month of May had an additional Sunday thus adding another week of receipts. Without the extra week we would be in the red. As of this writing we are in the red with a deficit of approximately $1,000 for the year. When you are on vacation or away, please remember your pledge to the church. The success of St. Elizabeth’s is dependent upon you and your gifts.

KIRB (Keep Indian River Beautiful) A sincere thank you to everyone who helped to pick up trash along the river on Sat., May 2nd. We had many Boy Scouts, their leaders and parishioners helping with our quarterly KIRB cleanup. We ended up with just about a full truck load of trash. We were able to separate most of it into glass, plastic and aluminum containers for proper recycling. What a great way to expose St. E’s to the community (without exposing ourselves!) by showing that we care about our environment. We may move our next KIRB date from August 1st to September 19th to coordinate with International Coastal Cleanup Day to give us more exposure. We will post the date later this summer. We are still recycling aluminum cans, ink cartridges and batteries. The money from the cans is used to help our Sunday school, the ink cartridges go to our schools and by recycling batteries, and we keep toxic metals out of our landfill, drinking water and our lagoon. So please continue to bring these items in and collect from your family, friends and neighbors. Once again, thank you and May God bless you for your helping to Keep Indian River Beautiful! Ken Dean

Parents’ Day Breakfast On May 31st, we had our 1st annual Parents’ Day Breakfast. The purpose of this breakfast was to combine our annual Mother’s and Father’s Day breakfast and Honor all Parents. We wanted to recognize the NURTURING and COMFORTING that Parent’s provide, regardless of whether they are raising their own children or not. Our Sunday School Children gathered together early to help serve our Parents the wonderful and delicious breakfast casseroles that our parishioners provided. In fact, there was so much food, that we were able to take the leftovers down to The Source. A special time was had by all, as Father Dave blessed the food and the hands that prepared it to the special decorations made by our Sunday school children. We would like to take the time to give a HUGE THANKS to The Parents’ Day Committee for their service, our wonderful Sunday School Children who helped to serve breakfast, and all of our Parishioner’s who gave donations of food and money to help make this breakfast a success. Our Community was also very beneficial to the success of this breakfast, and we would like to thank the following businesses for their donations The Treasure Coast Food Bank & Busy Bee When you are out and about please patronize these businesses and thank them from St. Elizabeth’s. Finally the Vacation Bible School Staff would like to thank the Parents’ Day Committee because they donated the proceeds of their raffle to help fund our Vacation Bible School coming in July!!

OUTREACH:
We often talk about doing outreach in the community. Outreach is done through mission. Yes missions can be local, regional, national and international. Some of you may remember we dedicated one of our “Quarterly Quarter” collections to the Sao Paulo Mercy Mission. It is a mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where Fr. Steve Dass and his wife Mary reach out to the homeless and lost street children. Here is a snippet from there recent newsletter; a full copy is on the bulletin board. Several copies are in the Narthex for you to read. Please pray about supporting this effort. Fr. Stephen and Mary are our Diocesan Missionaries. From Fr. Stephen Dass: Many have wr itten to us wonder ing if they could do more than just support this ministry financially and prayerfully. Some have asked if they could sponsor a child and some thought about sending gifts to the children and teens. Our children are homeless; anything given to them is mostly likely to be stolen or lost almost immediately. Besides this, Brazil has high tax and complicated laws on receiving any merchandise even when labeled as gifts. However, for now, the thing that matters most to the children and teens is knowing their existence is important to someone. The number of deaths is rising in the streets and already we have had another five since January. This has impacted the hearts and minds of these little ones. It has brought up some existential questions. They want to know if their lives matter at all to anyone. They desire to belong to someone; to become part of something greater and bigger that would give their existence a meaning. The Truth is that they do belong to something greater and bigger than we can ever imagine. They belong to God and we belong to God. Therefore, it is our joy and duty to let these little ones know that they are God’s precious children. We are here to do this as your representatives. We sense in our spirit that we need to move from just knowing the stories of these children and teens and discover ways to strengthen the connection between the children and the ones whom we represent. I would like to challenge churches to adopt at least one of our children and teens. Obviously, I am not suggesting adoption in the traditional sense nor am I talking about a child-sponsorship program. The latter involves sending money and gifts. This is not what we are talking about. We would like to see churches develop a relationship with the children through this ministry. For starters, you can pray for them as you would pray for your own child. Prayer is the beginning of all spiritual action. It opens us up to listen to the Holy Spirit. I would suggest that their names be included in the weekly Sunday prayer and a special note made to remind the church that the child is the adopted child of the church. It would be wonderful for a church to send a card with simple and personal notes reminding the children and teens that they are remembered and loved by a church. They need to know that there are people who believe that they are God’s special gift to this world and that they are not nature’s mistakes. The children and teens are open to religious concepts. By this, I mean to say that they understand that God can move people thousands of miles away to love someone whom they never met. Most importantly, they will know that there are people who believe in them like fathers and mothers. They don’t know what it means to have someone always hoping and praying the best for them. God can use you to be that person in the lives of these little ones. Our e-mail address:

Deacons Desk: Cont. pg.1 “On one occasion, while Jesus was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” As we’ve spent more time with the Holy Spirit we’ve learned about His power in our lives. I encourage you all to do the same. We should be relying on the Holy Spirit each and every day and especially in our prayers. If you’d like to learn more about the Holy Spirit; we invite you to spend at least one hour each week in bible study. We meet on Tuesday evenings at 7pm and we are done promptly by 8pm for those of you who don’t like to drive in the dark. I promise you that your hour will not leave you withered, it will leave you wanting for living water. Deacon Lori
The Holy Spirit and John boy meet Some time ago I was stuck in the darkness by way of drug addiction. My wife Emily said to me that it was time to start loving myself. She told me that I needed to go to a treatment facility for help. So I found a place that was located in the foot hills of the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina called Hope Valley. As I arrived at Hope Valley, all I was thinking about was how I was going to get everything that I needed first and foremost. It was all about me. As I was sitting there thinking about where I was, I was called to the office to meet my counselor. The first thing that he said to me was that I needed to go to my room, shut the door and get on my knees and ask God for a miracle. My first thought was, “How can this help me?” but I did it anyways. My days were basically the same every day. I would wake up thinking that I had to make sure I was first in line to get breakfast so I could get into the cafeteria first so I could get my food first. Everything I did was about me getting everything first all day long. This went on for eight straight days. Everyday though I still got on my knees and asked God for a miracle. Well guess what happened? On the ninth day I was in line first to get to the cafeteria so I could get in the door first to get my food. And then it hap-
pened, as I went to grab the door, a voice inside me said to hold the door for all the other people that wanted to get breakfast. So I held the door and let 20 people go before me and I went in last. As I sat there wondering what just happened I heard a voice say to me “I have answered your prayer for a miracle”. Today I have come to learn that it was the day that I met the Holy Spirit. As I have come to grow in Christ, I can recognize when the Holy Spirit is moving in me and it is the ultimate high in life. As the old saying says: If you only have the Word, you dry up. If you only have the Spirit, you blow up. But if you have both, you grow up.
Keep growing in Christ John “Boy” Profitt

Summer Days By Audrey Nieman Cool breeze softly brushing my face; Honeysuckle filling the air; Birds worshiping the morning; Brown legs, bare. Hot afternoon by the water’s edge; Kids in sandals, running; Balls and skates and quiet games; Wild geese, sunning. Coolness returning, evening is near; Soft color filling the sky, Blues and pinks and smoky grays. The sun bids us good-bye. O Lord, my God, Creator of all.
How wonderful are your ways! How can we mortals praise you enough For the miracle of summer days.
