President’s Message, Frank Catalana Hello NJFPA Members! We have been very busy since our Annual Meeting in February when my tenure as your President began. We hosted our Annual Farm to Fork event just a few weeks ago in early June in Trenton at the Statehouse. This was our 4th Annual Farm to Fork event where we partnered with the New Jersey Food Council, the New Jersey Farm Bureau and the New Jersey Restaurant and Hospitality Association to showcase our products to New Jersey legislators and share the importance of the Food Industry. We met with the Secretary of Agriculture, Doug Fisher who presented the group with a proclamation as well as Assemblyman Vincent Mazzeo who presented our group with a ceremonial resolution on the General Assembly Floor. We had a great showing of member companies and want to specially thank Campbell’s Soup and Cumberland Dairy for their participation at the event! We also just hosted our annual Peter Pappas Memorial Golf Outing at Running Deer Golf Club which was a huge success! We had more golfers participate than ever before and it was a great day out on the green. Our Golf Outing is always a great event to relax and enjoy a day out in the sun with fellow the NJFPA members! We of course have many more events coming up in the Fall when we pick up again with our On the Road Dinners at Laurita Winery in New Egypt, NJ on October 13th and at Flying Fish Brewery in Somerdale on December 6th.

The fifth annual “From Farm to Fork” event — presented by the New Jersey Food Council, the New Jersey Food Processors Association, the New Jersey Farm Bureau and the New Jersey Restaurant and Hospitality Association — was successfully held on Thursday at the State House in Trenton. The event encouraged key legislators and policy Attendees at the Farm to Fork event, held at the State House in Trenton. - (FROM FARM TO FORK) makers to visit with each of the various organizations’ exhibits while enjoying complimentary beverages and snacks from retailers such as Kings Food Markets and Campbell Soup Company. “From farm to fork, New Jersey’s food industry is essential to the vitality of our economy, our communities and our residents, generating more than $105 billion each year and employing almost 600,000 workers,” Linda Doherty, CEO and president of the New Jersey Food Council, said. “This event is an effective opportunity to showcase the latest food products and trends to New Jersey legislators and administration officials. It also serves as an important reminder of the crucial role we play in the health and wellness of New Jersey’s communities and state economy. New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas Fisher kicked off the event by discussing the importance of the food and beverage industry in the state, while Assemblyman Vincent Mazzeo (D - Atlantic) presented the four food industry organizations with a resolution, co-sponsored by Senator Jim Whelan (D - Atlantic), which paid tribute to the industry’s numerous contributions to New Jersey. “My family business is B.F. Mazzeo Fruit & Produce in Northfield,” Mazzeo said. He and his brother, Ben, now co-own the grocery business started by their father in 1959. “We have about 42 employees,” Mazzeo said. “I have a soft spot for anyone in the food business because it is a very tough business. I also have a soft spot for farmers, because we deal with a lot of farmers directly. “Keep up the good work.”
