Welcome to the University of Wisconsin System Administration (UWSA)! We are pleased you have chosen to join a dynamic and innovative group of employees whose contributions are vital to the success of public higher education in Wisconsin. It is a pleasure to have you as a member of the UWSA team! Our goal for this short orientation is to provide you with information and key resources as part of your introduction to your new role.

The University of Wisconsin System UW System is one of the largest systems of public higher education in the country, serving more that 181,000 students each year and employing more than 39,000 faculty and staff around Wisconsin. UW System is comprised of:  13 four-year universities,  13 freshman-sophomore

University of Wisconsin System Administration (UWSA) UWSA consists of approximately 300 employees in over 20 departments who facilitate the efficiency and effectiveness of one of the nation’s premier public education systems. UWSA Mission Statement With the Board of Regents, the UW System Administration leads and serves the UW System institutions, as a champion of higher education and a responsible steward of resources. Under the direction of the UW System President, the UW System Administration helps to develop, and then implements, monitors, and evaluates policies enacted by the Board of Regents, aligning university programs with the current and future needs of the state and the nation. Meet the President Dr. Raymond W. (Ray) Cross began his tenure as the seventh president of the University of Wisconsin System on February 15, 2014. Dr. Cross served as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension from February 2011 through February 2014. From 1998 until 2011, Dr. Cross was president of Morrisville State College. Dr. Cross received his doctorate in college and university administration from Michigan State University. He earned a master's degree in industrial education at Central Michigan University and a bachelor's degree in technical education from Ferris State University. In addition to his career in academia, Dr. Cross has experience in the private sector as a design engineer, small business owner, and consultant. From 1967-70, he served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was awarded four medals for his service. Office of the President website: http://www.uwsa.edu/president

Board of Regents The University of Wisconsin System is governed by the Board of Regents, an 18-member board established under Chapter 36 of the Wisconsin State Statutes.  The Governor of Wisconsin appoints Board members to sevenyear terms (except student regents, who serve 2-year terms)  The Board of Regents appoints the President of the UW System, the chancellors of 13 universities, the chancellor of UWExtension and UW Colleges, and the deans of the 13 colleges  The Board sets admission standards, reviews and approves university budgets, and establishes the regulatory framework within which the institutions operate. What to Bring On Your First Day On your first day at UWSA, please bring the following with you:  Appropriate documentation found on the last page of the I-9 Form  Completed I-9 Form • You must submit the completed I-9 to UWSA Human

Resources within the first 3 (three) days of your employment, but completing it prior to your first day will ensure you can access our computer system when you arrive. • UWSA will only employ U.S. citizens and aliens authorized to work in the United States. Failure to comply with the provisions of the Immigration Reform and Control Act will result in immediate termination of employment.

Getting Around UWSA  Building Access Regent Street: A key fob will be given to you by your supervisor Van Hise or 660 W. Wash: Your hiring department will request building access for you; you will find out more information on your first day.

 Parking Regent Street: On-site parking is available, and the low fee is withdrawn via payroll deduction. You should receive a parking permit application on your first day. Van Hise or 660 W. Wash: Employees at these locations may park in a UW-Madison owned lot. If you are interested in parking, you must contact Kathy Dickerson at [email protected] to be added to the Parking Application System. More information about parking can be found here: UW-Madison Parking Information.  Madison Metro Bus Pass UWSA employees may obtain a bus pass that allows you to ride all Madison city buses. You must show your Wiscard and pay an annual fee (currently $24) to obtain a bus pass at a UW Transportation Services office. Employee Resources  ID Card All UWSA employees receive a Wiscard for identification purposes. The Wiscard program is affiliated with UW-Madison and allows access to UWMadison campus facilities (including libraries, fitness centers, and campus events). You can obtain this free card at Union South,1308 Dayton Street, in Room 149. Learn more at http://www.wiscard.wisc.edu

 Ergonomics and Workplace Safety For questions or concerns about safety in your workplace, ergonomics and the set-up of your work station, or worker’s compensation, please contact the UWSA Office of Risk Management.

 Telephone Procedures To dial within UWSA or State of Wisconsin Madison-area numbers, dial the last five digits of the phone number only (For example, to reach (608) 262-1600, simply dial 2-1600 from your desk phone). To dial a local or toll-free number, use 9 + 1 + (number). To dial long distance, use 8 + 1 + (area code) + (number).

On your first day, you will schedule a time to meet with staff from the Office of Information Services (OIS) in order to set up your computer workstation and learn more about IT systems and resources at UWSA. You will receive an Outlook email account for work use, which can be accessed (after OIS setup).  PASSword Newsletter

PASSword is a monthly electronic newsletter for staff of the University of Wisconsin System Administration. PASSword provides information on upcoming events, project updates, staff changes, accomplishments, and news stories. PASSword is distributed via email and can be accessed on the UWSA intranet site (https://my.wisconsin.edu/portal/ ).

My UW Portal The MyUW portal allows you to access your payroll, benefits, and leave information online. Using the portal, you can: • Report your time and absences online • View Earnings Statements and W-2 forms • Enroll in or change your benefits • Review your current leave balances • View your annual Wisconsin Retirement System statement • Update your contact and personal information • Access UWSA’s web conference tool, Blackboard Collaborate MyUW System portal website: https://my.wisconsin.edu Use your Email ID (the first part of your email, before @uwsa.edu) and your password that you use to access the UWSA computer network to log in
