you purchase a multi-ride ticket from one of our TransitShops or ticket agents to save you time and money, and help speed up your service.

Every working day across Sydney, our fleet of buses carry over 600,000 passengers on 300 routes to their destinations, safely and conveniently. Many services go to the City, which save commuters from the hassles of traffic, parking, bridge and tunnel tolls.

How to use this guide On the map, identify the bus route(s) that run nearest to where you are or where you plan to go. You can follow the colour-coded route line on the map to see the areas traversed by the route up to its destination. Or for a quick reference, a list of routes and the areas they pass through is also in this guide. If your final destination is not within the Northern region, you can identify the route which can take you to the City or the nearest suburb where you can connect to other services. Please refer to other Sydney Buses region guides (Eastern, Southern and Western) for bus routes operating in these regions. If you are not sure how to get to your destination, use the Trip Planner on the Transport Infoline website www.131500.com.au. You can also phone 131500 for transport inquiries or to give feedback. If you need copies of timetables or maps, you can view and print them online at www.sydneybuses.info, or pick them up from TransitShops in the City, or from selected ticket agents displaying the purple PrePay flag.

PrePay-Only services and bus stops PrePay simply means purchasing a ticket before boarding the bus. Customers are encouraged to PrePay every time they travel. Many bus stops and routes are now PrePay-only, and you will be required to purchase your ticket from one of our ticket agents before boarding the bus. All bus stops within the Sydney CBD are PrePay-only from 7am until 7pm each weekday, and citybound bus stops at Cremorne Junction, Neutral Bay Junction and Watson Street are PrePay-only from 7am until 10am each weekday. There are close to 900 ticket agents in Sydney, including newsagents, 7-elevens and convenience stores. Tickets are also available from Sydney Buses' TransitShops, CityRail train stations and selected Sydney Ferries wharves.

Fares and Tickets Sydney Buses has a range of tickets to suit just about every journey type you would like to make. We recommend that you purchase a multi-ride ticket from one of our TransitShops or ticket agents to save you time and money, and help speed up your service. TravelTen. TravelTen is a 10-ride ticket which remains valid

TravelTen. TravelTen is a 10-ride ticket which remains valid until all ten rides are used. You will save time and up to 20% off single fares. There are five types depending on the number of sections you travel (sections are shown on the route map in the timetable). TravelTens are also transferable, and can be used to pay for travelling companions TravelPass. TravelPass provides you with unlimited travel on a weekly, quarterly or annual basis on Sydney Buses, CityRail and Sydney Ferries. TravelPass tickets are ideal if you are a frequent traveller, and if you use a combination of transport modes (bus/ferry or bus/train/ferry) to reach your destination. Each TravelPass ticket is colour-coded depending on the zones covered and the modes of transport used. Single Ride. Single Ride tickets are available from selected ticket agents, which can be used for one trip on Sydney Buses services. Tickets are section based. Tickets are also available onboard from the driver. Note that cash fares are not available from buses operating from PrePay-only bus stops, or on board PrePay-only bus routes.

Welcome Aboard

A new bus network for Sydney Buses’ Northern Region The new bus network for the Northern region will be introduced from:

Sunday 2 August 2009

You told us that you wanted ……. Sydney Buses to introduce new bus services to Elanora Heights and Warriewood. No change to Routes 136 and L60.

In August 2008 State Transit Authority invited the community to comment on a proposal to improve bus services by making routes more direct and providing services to meet growing demand. We appreciate the time the local community took to be involved in the comment process. We received submissions on a variety of topics, all of which were carefully considered and reviewed. A summary of the main topics raised and our responses is included in this brochure. The new bus network introduces changes which allow customers across the whole community to access a greater number of bus transport options including: • • •

• • • •

A full time 7 days per week direct City service for Cromer residents. A daytime 7 days per week direct City service for Wheeler Heights residents. New Route 153 providing three daytime off-peak shopping trips on weekdays between Warringah Mall (stopping inside) and major retirement villages in the Wheeler Heights, Cromer and Narraweena areas. Additional weekend City services introduced on Route 244 to Chowder Bay via Mosman. Extension of City service Route 245 from Spit Junction to Balmoral via Mosman. Better access between Manly and Warringah Mall during daytime off-peak and weekends, with an increase in frequency from 15 minutes to approximately 10 minutes. Changes to Route 136 service provide Forestville residents with additional links to Chatswood, Dee Why and Manly.

School Special routes have not been altered although some minor time changes have been made. Local schools will be notified of these changes. We will closely monitor the new network to respond to passenger demand.

No change to Route 139 thereby leaving the service in Foam Street, Freshwater. No change to Routes 135, 146 and 152.

Our Response

(Routes 182 and L83 commenced 24 November 2008) Links with Chatswood are maintained whilst allowing more customers to access bus services. Route L60 will be retained and realigned with Route 136 stopping at selected stops between Dee Why and Wakehurst Parkway, then operating non-stop to Roseville Chase, then all stops to Chatswood. Route 136 will no longer run non-stop between Roseville Chase and Frenchs Forest and will pick up and set down all stops between Manly and Chatswood.

You told us that you wanted ……. No change to Routes E68 and E71.

No change to Route E72.

No change to Route E73.

Route 146 is to be discontinued and replaced with Route 179 from Wheeler Heights to City via Warringah Mall. The section of current Route 146 running from Warringah Mall to Manly via Balgowlah Shops / Stockland Mall is to be replaced by an extended Route 135. Route 152 is to be discontinued and replaced by the extension of Route 178 from Dee Why to Cromer Heights. In response to concerns raised by elderly and disabled residents in the Wheeler Heights, Cromer and Narraweena areas a new Route 153 weekday daytime off-peak shopping service will be introduced and stop inside Warringah Mall. The existing link to Warringah Mall via Willandra Village is maintained with Route E78 and Route 178 with all City services operating via Pittwater Road outside the entrance to Warringah Mall.

Our Response

No change to Route 193.

Whilst Routes E68 and E71 have been retained, morning services will no longer stop between Seaforth and Spit Junction. Afternoon services from the City remain unchanged. Route E72 will be discontinued. Express City services will be provided along Willandra Road and McIntosh Road on Route E78 via Pittwater Road or Route E69 along Warringah Road via Wakehurst Parkway. The level of service between Beacon Hill and Seaforth along Warringah Road previously provided by the Routes E72 and E73 will be maintained. Route E73 will be discontinued and all express services from Cromer to Narraweena will be directed via Pittwater Road on Routes E78 and E79. Customers between Narraweena and Seaforth via Wakehurst Parkway will travel on Route E69 express services. The level of service previously provided for Routes E72 and E73 will be maintained. Feedback from the community told us that whilst patronage is low there is a need to provide for school students who use this service. Therefore Route 193 will be withdrawn and school service Route 793 will operate to meet the needs of local students.

No change to Route 228. This service will be retained on its current route. Route 228 will become a weekday peak service, between 7am and 9.30am and 3pm and 7pm. A weekday, off-peak Route 229 service will operate between Milsons Point and Spit Junction.

The proposed redirection of Route 263 withdrawn. The proposal to change There are currently more than 25 stopping patterns different stopping patterns withdrawn. operating across the Northern Region bus network. The stops that Express and Limited-Stops buses make along the Pittwater/Military Road corridor vary between routes and direction of service. Whilst feedback from the public did not support changes to stopping patterns the changes are needed to: • reduce the complexity of the system; • improve the community’s access to services; • better manage passenger loadings; and • help reduce over crowding during peak times. As part of this bus network review the Express and Limited-Stops services operating along the Pittwater/Military Road corridor were examined in detail. This enabled State Transit Authority to simplify the stopping patterns into fewer Express and Limited-Stops configurations which are easily communicated to customers in a clear and concise format.

Bus routes serving major commercial centres like Manly Wharf or Warringah Mall stop at different bus stops within the area. Most bus stops with shelters show the routes that stop there and the timetable of services. Please check which bus stop is served by the route you intend to take. Check the destination shown at the front of the bus before boarding and if unsure, ask the driver. A number of our services connect with CityRail, Sydney Ferries and private buses services for trips within the rest of the Northern region, to and from the City and beyond. Phone 131500 for timetables, trip planning or fares information.
