27 Time-Table
"NECESSITY, THE MOTHER OF INVENTION." The term “Innovation” has developed into a common expression of the modern business environment and can be found in every industry and country. It has often been associated with brilliant solutions, large growth and rapid success. Companies have made the task of innovation into entire operational units and politicians and influencers have started to announce innovation initiatives. Wherever we look, innovation is the name of the game. The truly fundamental innovation is no doubt a crucial element to the sustained success of products, brands and organisations. Necessity and states of need are multifaceted phenomena which can lead to the most spectacular and ground-breaking innovation. Whether it is an emerging market in the developing world, the growing crevasse between rich and poor, or the dramatic change in demographics due to crises and conflicts; we face one of the most dynamic environments to date. Motives such as politics, religion, business interests or greed provoke growing needs and states of necessity in all regions of the globe. This means we must face the truly fundamental questions. What are the resulting challenges facing entrepreneurs, politicians,
and managers in the 21st century? Is it sufficient to become innovative due to a state of need or is it already too late? Is it possible to bypass need as a prerequisite for innovation and invention? If so, how? Who will emerge victorious and manage to newly interpret the principles of our world, thereby changing the way we think, work, and live? Then there is always the flipside; the proverbial loser in the challenge we call development. Who will be caught off guard and be left behind? In the context of business and politics, the 21st to the 23rd September, 2016 will witness over 1000 motivated students and young professionals daring to engage with this almost philosophical topic of fundamental human development. The EBS Symposium in no way claims to find all the answers to these questions, but much rather has the aspiration to critically discuss and question existing ways of thinking, thereby creating a challenging, dynamic and intriguing forum for debate. We look forward to inspiring speeches, discussions and a highly motivated, international audience. It is time to look the challenges of the 21st century in the eye, question the status quo and ask ourselves: Who will design our future?

CURRENT AFFAIRS
DIGITAL PANEL
Geopolitical developments, demographic shifts, and financial trends deeply shape the way the world economies evolve. Understanding how news headlines and global trends in politics affect business and international relations is crucial in our highly interconnected world. This panel aims to uncover the links between global developments and the Europe of tomorrow.
Digitisation has become commonplace in the 21st century, appearing in almost every industry, all around the world. Yet the development of digital technologies has been so rapid that we must carefully consider the true implications of this technology which few people fully understand.

FINANCE PANEL
WOMEN'S PANEL
The financial services industry has been shaken by a continued lack of trust and an expansion of regulation. Recent developments such as those in some major European Banks, clearly show how fragile this industry is at the moment and that the industry must adapt to the new environment in order to stay competitive.
No matter which business magazine or newspaper you open, you will most likely find an article on female leadership or women in companies, as this is a highly discussed topic not only recently but for years now. Nevertheless, it has not lost relevance. This panel aims to discuss current problems and chances in terms of women in businesses.
