ruce Lusk’s mare Dances In The Sand was dubbed Go Go as a yearling. She’s been living up to the name for the past week. “She’s fun to ride,” said Lusk of the SR Instant Choice daughter who carried him for a 221.5-point high score among yesterday’s amateur competitors. Rusk also qualified for the Non-Pro SemiFinals with a cumulative average of 435.5, as well as the Non-Pro Limited Finals. Rusk cut three cows to show Dances In The Sand to full advantage with some hard, quick moves, and some down and dirty calypso, on the second cow. “The second cow was right underneath me and I wasn’t really

looking at it because the cow I wanted was way up on top,” Rusk said. “But they told me to drive it right up through there. I did and she just stood there and waited for me to cut her.” Lusk and his wife, Jerilynn, purchased Dances In The Sand last year at the Futurity from nonpro competitors Skip and Elizabeth Queen, of Allendale, South Carolina. “We bought her as a yearling at a sale here and when we got her home, she was so little, we wondered how we were going to ride her,” Elizabeth said. “We had to wait until April of her two-year-old year before we started training her. She’s still small, but she’s filled out Continued on page 2

Hoosier favorite Jessica Eaton, of Danville, Indiana, marked 220 points yesterday aboard homegrown Boons Cat Friday. It was just her second time to show in Fort Worth. “I was really nervous,” Eaton admitted. “I’ve been away from cutting for the last two years—just a couple of weekend shows in two years.

Eaton, 27, began cutting as a teenager and showed Boons Cat Friday’s dam, Boons Lace Drawers, by Boon Bar. “I showed her for seven or eight years in weekend shows and we stayed competitive in our area all those years,” she noted. “So it’s a sentimental thing. She’s the first one we’ve raised that I’ve shown.” Eaton’s father, Michael, also rides cutting horses. The right fit Martin Sharron, of Pensacola, Florida, didn’t have much time to savor his lead in yesterday’s competition. Sharron marked 219 points as the fourth rider in the second bunch, but he was immediately followed by Jessica Eaton, who topped his score. But Sharron was pleased with his third-place status, as well as the performance of his horse, Lintons Lil Rooster. “I’ve been coming here for 25 years and this is the first time I’ve had a horse

that really fits me and I fit him,” said Sharron, who also owns Smart Oh Cay, the gelding Graham Amos rode last week to win the Open Futurity cumulative goround average. Sharron was able to cut the cattle that had been picked and trusted his horse to carry him through. “All of it is tense for me,” said Sharron, when asked if there were any tense moments. “But it’s great—nothing like it. And this horse has gotten better every time.” Lintons Lil Rooster, by Gallo Del Cielo, was purchased by Sharron as a yearling for $20,000 at the Polo Ranch Sale. His dam is Lintons Lady Doc, producer of earners of over $200,000, including the well regarded sire Zack T Wood. Sharron, who retired from the auto parts business in 2000, was introduced to cutting by the late Gayle Borland, a member of the NCHA Hall of Fame. Barry good Cara Barry, of Byron, Illinois, placed with two horses among yesterday’s top ten.

The best caption for this photo will win Dinner for 4 at Joe T. Garcia’s. Submit your answer in writing to Carolyn Crist in the Show Office. The winner will be announced in tomorrow’s Daily Chatter. Keith Barnett came closest to identifying the people in yesterday’s Mystery Photo: Robin Merrill, Doc and Yvonne Severinsen. The fourth person was not Don Jones, but Johnny T.L. Jones. Keith wins Dinner for 2 at Angelo’s BBQ on White Settlement Road. Tim Smith won Brunch for 2 at Bistro Louise on Hulen Street for guessing Charlie Ward and Doc’s Starlight in Sunday’s Mystery Photo contest. Thanks to Midge Ames for that photo.
