Cleaning And Care Instructions

Safe Work Practices

When caring for Bestwood® Natural Wood Veneer:

As a reconstituted panel product made from wood, resin and wax, users should be aware that as with all wood and timber products, exposure to wood dust and/or formaldehyde from MDF may irritate the eyes, respiratory system and skin. The formaldehyde glue emissions pertaining to this product comply with the E1 European standard, (maximum emission 1.0 mg/L) and are less than 1.5 mg/lit (according to the EN 717/2 method).

Dusting – Use only a soft dry cloth or feather duster. Polishing – Use a high quality furniture polish (non-silicone based) with a soft cloth. Extreme temperature changes – Don’t place hot dishes, pots, pans, cups etc directly onto lacquered surfaces. Use heat resistant place mats under hot food and beverages to avoid heat damage. Spillages – All spillages should be cleaned with a damp cloth as soon as possible as moisture may cause damage to the coating. Do not allow nail polishes and removers, personal deodorants, perfumes, aftershave lotions, soaps etc to come into contact with the lacquer. Dirty or Greasy Marks – After wiping with a dry cloth, persistent marks may be removed by using a mild, non-abrasive cleaner appropriate for the surface finish. Do not use “spray and wipe” solutions or excessive force when removing marks. Direct Sunlight – Direct sunlight should be avoided on all veneered surfaces as fading, bleaching, colour changes and damage to the surface coating may occur. As with any natural timber product, dyed products such as fabrics will change colour over time when exposed to visible and UV light.

Finishing Bestwood® natural Wood Veneer CHH Woodproducts takes no responsibility for the finishing of veneer. A coating or lacquer manufacturer must be consulted for advice as to the most suitable coating system for specific applications and for particular species. Particular care must be taken when finishing veneer where it is exposed to direct sunlight or in areas with high UV light. Independent industry research recommends high quality, non-yellowing, 2 pack Acrylic-Urethane – with manufacturers approved ultra violet inhibitors in the sealer and topcoat. Any coating will need specific testing for wear resistance, hardness and colour stability. Veneer needs to be cleaned thoroughly before finishing. Ensure surface is cleaned of all traces of dirt, oil, grease and even fingerprints. Fill nail holes and cracks with a solventbased putty. Sand only along the grain. Do not use disc sanders. Take care not to sand through the veneer.

Storage And Handling Bestwood Natural Wood Veneer must be stored in a wellventilated, dry area away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations. To prevent moisture absorption and damage, veneer should be stored off the ground. Veneer must be lifted, not dragged to prevent edge damage. Contact with any surface may damage the veneer; moving panels must be done with care.

Inhalation may result in asthma and skin contact may cause dermatitis. As a known carcinogen, repeated inhalation of wood dust over many years may cause respiratory cancer issues. Formaldehyde is classified as a carcinogen. All MDF panels CHHWoodproducts manufacture for the domestic and international market adhere to, and comply with the AS/NZS 1859 formaldehyde standards. Work and storage areas should be well ventilated and cleaned regularly. Wood dust should be removed by vacuum cleaning or by the wet sweeping method – not by compressed air systems. All sawing, sanding and machining equipment should be fitted with efficient dust extraction systems. Hand power tools should be fitted with dust bags. If skin irritations occur, longsleeved shirts, trousers and comfortable work gloves should be worn. For respiratory protection, respirators/dust masks should be worn. These should comply with AS/NZS 1716. Safety glasses should be worn when machining substrates. Eye protection must conform to AS/NZS 1337.

Guarantee CHH Woodproducts stands by the intrinsic quality of its veneers. Discolouration due to exposure to sunlight and ultra violet rays cannot be considered a defect. In the event of any dispute the liability of CHH Woodproducts is limited to the replacement of any material shown to be defective.
