Transition Arrangements This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Diploma in Drinking-Water Assessment (Level 5) [Ref: 2244] and the New Zealand Diploma in Water Treatment (Level 5) with strands in Drinking-Water, and Wastewater [Ref: 2245]. The last date for entry into programmes leading to this qualification is 30 June 2017. People currently working towards this qualification may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2018 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification. Purpose This qualification is intended for people who either wish to work as Ministry of Health drinking-water assessors, or who are working in a supervisory or sole charge position in water treatment plants. The core compulsory section is designed to recognise knowledge of the management of water treatment processes, preventative maintenance and monitoring of product standards, the Health (Drinking-Water) Amendment Act 2007, the management of water treatment plant waste processes, process control including Piping and Instrumentation (P and I) drawings and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), the DrinkingWater Standards for New Zealand (DWSNZ), Public Health Risk Management Plans (PHRMP), drinking-water contaminants of public health significance, and team leadership skills. The Drinking-Water Assessment strand recognises the industry-specific knowledge and skills essential for competence as a Ministry of Health drinking-water assessor. Candidates will be able to assess a drinking-water treatment plant for optimisation and a drinking-water supplier’s PHRMP for adequacy; assess competence of field analysts; plan and conduct inspections of drinking-water supplies and verify compliance with PHRMP and DWSNZ; produce a final report on drinking-water supply inspection findings; use a Water Information New Zealand (WINZ) database; and prepare a PHRMP. Candidates will have knowledge of drinking-water supply reticulation systems and reticulation system management. The Water Treatment strand recognises the skills required of people working in a supervisory or sole charge position in water treatment plants. Candidates will be able to report on a water supply topic or improvement and manage workplace health and safety. The standards in Elective 1 and Elective 2 of the Water Treatment strand are designed to recognise the site-specific knowledge and skills required by individuals on the plant or plants at which they they operate.

Requirements for Award of Qualification Award of NZQF National Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Treatment Strand Elective 1. Standard 17497 has been removed from the Water Treatment Strand Compulsory. Standard 8085 has been moved from the Water Treatment Strand Compulsory to the Water Treatment Strand Elective 1. Standards 24966 – 24973 have been added to the Water Treatment Strand Elective 2. Standards 18438 and 18445 have been replaced by standard 24896 and moved to the Core Compulsory section. Standard 18439 has been replaced by standard 24907 and moved to the Core Compulsory section. Standard 19350 has been replaced by standards 24966-24969 and standard 19351 has been replaced by standards 24970-24972 in Water Treatment Strand Elective 2. Standard 19353 has been removed from the Water Treatment Strand Elective 2 and the recommended alternative, standard 24904, has been included in the Core Compulsory. The last date for entry to programmes or courses for the replaced version is December 2009. It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the Agriculture Industry Training Organisation at the address below. Previous versions of the qualification Version 2 was republished to extend the last date for entry from 31 December 2016 to 30 June 2017. Version 2 was issued following revision to update the certificate statement and include the transition information regarding non-NQF certificates offered by Opus International Consultants. Versions 1 and 2 of this qualification included standard 17497, which expired in December 2009 and whose replacement, standard 21335, was not included in version 3. The outcome of standard 21335 is acceptable to Agriculture Industry Training Organisation as an alternative for standard 17497. This transition has been included to ensure that all candidates currently enrolled in versions 1 and 2 are able to complete the requirements of that version if they wish to. Candidates must complete standard 21335 by 31 December 2012 or transfer to version 3 of the qualification. Versions 1 and 2 of the qualification contain an expired standard that has been replaced. For the purposes of these versions of the qualification, people who have gained credit for the replacement standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replaced standard – see table below.
