EPA07 DD15 Removal of Axial Power Turbine Air Seal Pressure Regulator (P/N: EA4720900780)

KIT DESCRIPTION Service kit (P/N: EA4720900780) contains all the necessary parts to remove the Axial Power Turbine (APT) Air Seal Pressure Regulator. The Regulator used vehicle air to supply air to the APT seal. The regulator was removed from engines starting with engine s/n 472901S0010425, which was built on November 24, 2008, through the present. APT seal supply air pressure now comes from the turbocharger compressor housing. In addition to installing these parts, the MCM must be reprogrammed to disable the Air Seal Pressure Regulator in the fuel map.

KIT CONTENTS Service kit (P/N: EA4720900780) contains the parts listed in Table 1: Part No.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Install the kit to remove the APT Air Seal Pressure Regulator as follows. NOTE: Certain parts must be retained during the removal process for reuse during the installation process. These parts will be noted in bolded font in the removal steps below.

1. Shut off engine and apply the parking brake, chock the wheels, disconnect vehicle battery power, and perform any other applicable safety steps. 2. Relieve all of the pressure from the air tanks on the truck. 3. Replace the turbocharger with the new one (P/N: EA4720961599) supplied in the kit. Reference section 11 of the EPA07/10 DD Platform Engine Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0081).

5. Disconnect and remove the air supply line from the chassis to the Air Seal Pressure Regulator. Discard the line, and block off the source of the vehicle air supply with a suitable plug. 6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Air Seal Pressure Regulator. Install plug (P/N: A0015462935) into the engine sensor harness. See Figure 2.

11. Install a mounting clip as follows. a. If the engine serial number is 472901S0007714 or lower, install clip to air line using bolt (P/N: N910105006023) and nut (P/N: N910112006003) to attach to the new bracket installed in step 8. Attach the clip to the bracket and orient the air line so that it does not rub on the turbo drain tube. Torque to 10 N·m (7 lb·ft). See Figure 7.

13. Email ([email protected]) or call (313-592-5800) the Detroit Diesel Customer Support Center to have the server reset to the correct application code group to turn off the Air Seal Pressure Regulator in the fuel map. Then reprogram the MCM to software level v13.3.2.0 or higher. Ensure the CPC is programmed to software level r4.03 or higher. 14. Replace the turbocharger air inlet hose with the new one (Freightliner P/N: 0338136-000) supplied in the kit.

NOTICE: You MUST install the new turbocharger air inlet hose that comes in the kit. Failure to do so may result in an air leak, causing dirt and debris to enter the turbocharger compressor wheel and damage it. This will lead to turbocharger failure. Dirt and debris can also be forced through the Charger Air Cooler into the engine, damaging the cylinder kits. Turbocharger and/or engine damage as a result of not installing the new air inlet hose may not be covered under the engine warranty.
